  1. I'm pumped for Brooks Hall. Hopefully the velocity reports keep improving while the control stays the same.
  2. Cody Hawn's last 10 games (not including today): .152/.391/.303 with 11 walks and only 5 hits in 33 AB's. Patience will reward, my young slugging first baseman.
  3. They should really just move Ross to the AA pen.
  4. A high school version. Which is even more promising.
  5. I think it is time that we got some out-of-website opinions on these DSL guys. Is Badler the DSL guy at BA? Tweet him. Goldstein, Law, Sickels, and all the rest too. Even Haudricourt, Breen and whoever else has some connects in the FO.
  6. Toledo sounds like a good pick. Good velo, already had his TJ and came back strong. Nice pedigree. Most importantly, his name is totally fun to say. I bet it takes a chunk to sign him.
  7. Dowell went to La Grange in GA. That is a legendary football school.
  8. One last thing I'll say about the bats is, no matter what bat you use, the radar gun reads the same. So do scouting reports on command, control, makeup, athleticism, size, mechanics, etc. Results are the ONLY thing effected by the new bats.
  9. You realize Home Runs are down 50% right? It's the biggest change in college baseball maybe ever. Yet, somehow, only 1 less run is scored per game per team! OMGZ! That is so drastic. (link) And that was through the first half of the season, otherwise known as the cold months. How about we wait a few years before we make wild claims on how much the new bats are really effecting the game? The numbers could even out next season. I'm not arguing one way or another, I just want more data and more info.
  10. Verlander? How? His career ERA was more than 2 runs better than Bradley. Verlander had seasons of 2.40 and 1.91, and that's against the old bats. Verlander is an excellent example of how well college production translates to MLB. His ERA fell off his last year when he became the guy at OD. There were many questions as to whether he could handle stiffer competition. In fact, Bradley had a pretty comparable final year in college. Bradley doesn't throw as hard as Verlander, but he is a lefty. Their control and command received very, very similar grades after their final year as well. As an aside, this 'new bats' thing everyone keeps going to is greatly unsubstantiated. Maybe we should stop acting like we are experts on how the new bats are effecting prospect scouting. They are still using metal aren't they? Page me when they switch college hitters to wood.
  11. X, Justin Verlander is an example of what you are looking for. And maybe we can give Jimmy Nelson a little more time? Sheesh.
  12. Norris has had very inconsistent velo this spring, plus there are concerns he is already maxed out. Purke and Tilson are both huge injury risks that will want a butt load of cash.
  13. Gray is the only guy I'm truly sad we let pass. Cron would have been fun. I bet the Angels got a good one again. They are our guys now, so here is to long productive careers out of both. One thing I have to keep telling myself is that there are A TON of people that LOVE both of these guys.
  14. I have settled on Baez and Gray as the ideal picks. I just don't know if Lindor will hit at all. If anyone thinks they can change my mind on Lindor's bat, please attempt...http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I also would love Baez and Cron.
  15. I have been thinking this exact same thing. Bauer is the only one that really impresses me. Tyler Anderson would be alright at 15 I guess. Everyone else could easily go Eric Arnett. Edit: I also really like Sonny Gray's 2 plus-plus pitch combo.
  16. That ZIPS projection is an above average MLB third baseman batting line. Especially this year.
  17. TC07, we received 4 years (and maybe more) of impact pitchers in their prime for 5 prospects. What more do you want bro? #unrealisticexpectations Here are some things you need to realize about those prospects: Odorizzi was 20 in Low-A in a pitchers league. That is no sure thing. Still isn't, even with his success in A+ this year. It's not like his stuff is that overpowering. There are probably 30 guys in this draft alone with better pure stuff. Escobar cannot hit MLB pitching. Period. Cain really isn't better than Plush is now and his ceiling isn't much more anyways. Gomez plays better D, albeit not by much from what we saw last year. Jeffress cannot throw strikes and profiles as a back end bullpen guy. Lawrie hated the organization. It is obvious. He has never been happier than when he found out about the trade. He will hit, but he can't field at an impact position, so his value will never be maximized. We got 2 legit NL aces! And Greinke is an ace in any league. I get it. You want Clayton Kershaw and David Price. Or Billingsley and Nolasco. Or Wade Davis (yuck, but you have advocated many times) and Trevor Cahill. Heck, I can remember you beating the Alex Cobb/Alex Colome drum. Talk about mid-rotation upside. I can even remember the Prince to Baltimore discussions where you wanted us to get Chris Tillman (in fairness, you also brought up names like Arrieta, Matusz and Britton but I can confidently say none of those guys can touch what Greinke is capable of). 20/20 hindsight can go both ways, bro. Teams do not trade impact, MLB ready pitching prospects in deals for other minor league players. MLB-ready impact starting pitchers rarely get traded for MLB players even. They are valued like QB's in the NFL. If you have a good-to-great one, you ride him until proven different. Hellickson and Matusz are not on the block now. Neither were Brett Anderson nor Madison Baumgarner last year. You make Melvin's job sound so easy. Who the heck are you? Were you in the room during trade negotiations? Sometimes people act like they know every in-and-out of how MLB trade talks work. Puh-leeze.
  18. Is it safe to say that the Brewers might have landed a few extremely raw blue chippers? I have never seen such a string of impressive DSL pitching lines.
  19. This is inevitable.
  20. I was wondering what kind of line Komatsu would project to have if he was playing for the Brewers this season, so I looked up his MLE's. I listed a few other guys as well. Erik Komatsu: .269/.346/.359 18:18 BB:K (In CF, that would be a pretty dang good line. No way that line unseats the founder of the plushdamentalist movement, at least not this season.) Taylor Green: .213/.291/.352 16:29 (That is a bench player folks.) Mat Gamel: .269/.326/.427 14:36 (This is worse than McGehee's 2010 .801 OPS, but still an above average MLB 3B hitting line, especially in 2011. Edit: too bad he can't field and plays 1B now.) Caleb Gindl: .206/.280/.291 13:33 (2010 MLE's: ,229/.294/.333, he is not healthy) Brendan Katin: .205/.264/.498 8:44 (Another usable bench player, but he is not healthy of course) Eric Farris: ..234/.281/.315 9:18 (Josh Wilson-esque and Maysonet is worse.) Brett Carroll/Jordan Brown/Brandon Jones are all about: .232/.299/.341 13:38 (Puts Gindl to shame, no one else though http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif) I want to re-emphasize that these are projections for what the player would do in the major leagues TODAY. Kreiger, Kjeldgaard and Dennis are not worth doing at this time. Unfortunately, neither are Kentrail, D'Vo, and Scooter. Schafer does not have enough AB's, and really, neither do the others quite yet. Just a fun exercise.
  21. Thorny and Roberts are the stars today for WI. No way Tyler is still in low-A in 2 weeks (after draft), right?
