  1. This is what players do. People need to have fun.
  2. I would love to bring him back. He was a top 5 second baseman in the NL last year.
  3. If that's true, that stinks. I am guessing the team already 'knew' he would never be a catcher, so they didn't want to waste his/their time/effort. They should have just told him that instead of leading him on though.
  4. I like the 165 game thing, but I would love if MLB nutted up and went to a EPL style format. That would be so great. The only thing I would change is having the top two and bottom two change league (i.e premiere and A). That way there is a little more movement. Building on that idea, I think the draft should be built around helping the A league teams. Something like: 10 A league teams get 10 top picks 10 bottom Premiere league get next 10 picks 10 A league get next 10 picks 10 top Premiere league get next 10 So that would be 40 pick rounds. Does that seem reasonable? It would help (who knows how much) balance the bottom and top a little more.
  5. Thanks. Sometimes I just assume people know what I'm talking about.
  6. Check out the Draft thread from 2009. I'm pretty sure Colbyjack linked numerous videos along with his expert analysis.
  7. Those are very interesting results. A lot of posters here want Escobar and Gomez in the bottom third and this thing tells us to bat them 5th and 3rd. The CHONE projections for those two wasn't really all that horrible though. Very interesting. Edit: Grammar
  8. I think Davis' upside/ceiling for Appleton should be about .325/.400/.475. If he does that, we will see a much improved Appleton team. I love the Gindl love though. He should rake in Huntsville unless they are rained out every two days again.
  9. The record isn't what bothers me. It's the RA. It just isn't very realistic. If it is, DM can kiss his job goodbye.
  10. Yea, BP, really? Tied for league lead in .SLG with a middling .OBP and over 800 runs scored. They must see career declines for just about all of our pitchers (Hoffman, Wolf, Davis, Hawkins, Coffey). They have us giving up the most runs in the league by 20+ runs. I'd chalk this up to a worst case run prevention/pitching along with the roughly expected offensive scenario.
  11. Yea, and the A's are in 1st. The CAIRO formula seems better but projecting anyone for 102 wins is pretty foolish, even the Yankees.
  12. From Revenge of the RLYW (CAIRO): http://rlyw.blogspot.com/2010/01/extremely-early-2010-mlb-projected.html From Baseball Prospectus: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/fantasy/dc/
  13. Put me down for Escobar as well. I think he will surprise with the bat and mildly disappoint with the glove. His range will be great and he will make the 'wow' play on the regular, but much like Gomez, he will make dumb plays more than he should. Hardy was steady, Escobar will be horribly excellent. That may or may not make sense. Pitching will be Braddock once he gets called up. And I really hope I'm right because I'm a little concerned about Hoffman this year. He just can't last forever...but that is for another thread.
  14. Yea, I meant 15 as his peak possible total. I should say that no one thought Hanley would develop power either. Not saying he is Hanley good, but the projection is there (same body type at a young age). I know Hanley bulked up over the last few years, but Escobar will develop a man body too. ILDB, I could see him hitting 30 doubles this year with 40-45 doubles in his peak years. I think you could probably count on 5+ triples as well. Edit: I just wanted to say that there were some who thought Hanley would develop power. The statement I made was a little to general. There were many who thought he would never really hit though.
  15. I am flabbergasted at people's opinion of Escobar's upside. I feel like he still has a lot to work on but he has improved pretty much every year since he was signed, why would he stop now? He is very athletic and smooth with a projectable body and very good bat speed. What am I missing here? I know his plate discipline is what many will point to, but pretty much every player gradually, and sometimes significantly, improves in this area. Another thing people say is his lack of power will never truly let him be an above average MLB (not just SS) hitter. He hits a lot of doubles and triples though, and will likely sprinkle in anywhere from 7-15 hr's. He will never slug .500, but at his peak, why can't he slug .425 or better? I just think Escobar could easily become exactly what Law has seen and predicted for Castro.
  16. I really don't see how anyone could not like this deal. Well done DM.
  17. Finally read the list after I was on vacation. Very nice. I echo TLB's statement about Escobar. If we get that line over 600 ab's from an above average defensive SS, this lineup won't be so bad. As far as Lawrie, every scouting report on the guy has been glowing. The Tweets from the futures game were so exciting. He will be 20 years old next year and probably hit at least two levels, including AA. He could start the year in AA with Farris shifting to short, which I would love. He is very obviously on the Ryan Braun track in organization's eyes. This system is so deep. The MiLB pitchers will all seem much closer in June, and potent bats are on the horizon (Lucroy as a catcher, Lawrie, and Gamel). Hopefully Prince knows this too....please stay http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Glaring omissions and lack of research aside, I am just happy someone else is giving Gindl some love. This is where I get confused though; he says Gindl's body and scouting reports are bad, but aren't his scouting reports only bad because of his body? From everything else I can tell, he has a quick bat, short stroke, cannon arm, and decent speed and really the only thing I ever see criticized is his stature. Maybe my idea of 'scouting reports' is off...
  19. Thought I should mention it... http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/ask-ba/2010/269334.html Jim Callis names Alcides Escobar to his All-Prospect team as the 9th hitter and starting SS. He also notes that Brett Lawrie is the best 2B prospect in the league but he still decided to shift Starlin Castro over to 2B for his team. Choosing Ackley over Smoak or Morrison is a stretch for me right now. Drabek and Kelly are overrated as well. I know Kelly can throw strikes and hit the corners doing it, but his stuff won't ever let him be a #1. Even Maddux and Glavine used to sit very comfortably in the 92-94 range, so don't throw that comp. at me. From what I have heard, Kelly at his best is 92. Maybe 804 Sox knows better about his gun readings? I would have def. swung Feliz into the rotation and put Drew Storen in as the closer. For the other starting pitcher, I likely would have taken Jarrod Parker, but his status is up in the air with injury now. How about Christian Friedrich? http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=friedr001chr He is a lefty with Manny Parra type stuff. In 167 IP he has 224 K's and 58 BB's and he has given up only 9 hr's. He is a couple years older than Kelly, but he is progressing impressively still. Kelly is right up there, but he just seems overhyped while guys like Friedrich get very little national hype.
  20. Marty22, I should have said he was like Dan Uggla with a much better swing. I do think their obp/slg could be very similar. If he does start at AA, he is officially on the Braun path. Edit: Double checking on Uggla's stats, I have determined that Uggla isn't the best comparison with the bat. But I would be very satisfied if Lawrie turned out like Uggla. We'll see, maybe Lawrie is more of a Pablo Sandoval with the bat. Exciting stuff.
  21. 1. Escobar: will surprise everyone with the bat. cannot wait until he fully matures physically. 2. Gamel: Can someone please explain to me why Macha was the right man for the job? 3. Lawrie: Hornsby? Doubt it, but I'd take a more athletic Dan Uggla with some average D. Obviously though, he could be much better than Uggla. 4. Lucroy: Being quick behind the plate with a decent arm and great obp. skills will go a long ways for Jon. 5. Salome: Armed with a cannon and excited offensive potential, there is a lot to like. 6. Braddock: Superb control with stellar stuff, might find his way on the 25 man after ST. 7. Arnett: Top 2 next offseason, in 2010, it's time to let the big dog eat. 8. Rivas: If he actually can hit 95, he should probably be a few spots higher. 9. Gindl: So underrated, even by the big boys on this site. Has just produced everywhere and is super young for his league. Speed, power, cannon, patience; this guy is like a mini Lo-Cain who actually puts up monster numbers. 10. Cain: A healthy year from Cain, along with an improving K/BB rate could bring Cain to the show for good in 2011. 11. Schafer: Brewers' MiLB POY could have a Escobar 08' type of season in Huntsville with more pop and a little less speed. 12. Odorizzi: Periphs. are beautiful and the projected ceiling is still immense. Can we please see him in full season ball? 13. Rogers: That AFL performance was straight awful. Will he bounce back? 14. Ke. Davis: Steal, absolute steal. Should be in the next wave of Top 5 prospects for the org. 15. Scarpetta: Lackey-esgue in stuff but not control. Man-body and swooping curve gives him a long leash to develop. 16. Peralta: 2 pitch guy and honestly there haven't been many reports on him working/improving on other pitches. 17. D'Vo: Yea, I think this is the Mike Stanton of the 2009 draft. 18. Bucci: Fearless with some pretty good stuff to boot, is there an Italian wave about to hit the MLB (Liddi, Bucci, et al). 19. Jeffress: I cannot figure out why he was not added to the 40 man. You gotta protect talent like this, even if the 'the man' won't. 20. Heckatorne: Another man-body with spotty control. Don't go all Fredrickson on us. just missed (and I mean that, 20-40 are very close) Prince: Rest up Josh, and set the table for T-Rats next year. Lasker: This guy is gonna make it, some how, some way. Farris: 804 RedSox nailed it, this guy deserves some attention for his speed, contact bat, and superb D. Garfield: 6/6 and a high draft slot has gotta get you honorable mention at least. Walla: Jumps into top 20 next year after he destroys the R+ league. Axford: Terrific cheap bullpen option/depth. Wooten: I see a lot of late career Trevor in this guy. Anundson: Could be vastly underrating this guy. Hall: Love that we ponied up for this type of talent. Green: Fallen off the face of the Earth, but a strong start in '10 will bounce him back up the list. Howell: Another steal. Dennis: Chris has lightning in his bat. I love this system right now!
  22. This a very good pen. If Hoffman goes down, things could get ugly though (we need you Braddock!) because no one else has the experience, a la Trevor Hoffman, or the stuff, like a Papelbon or Nathan, to be counted on in the closer role. Good depth otherwise. I really wonder if Axford will stack up next to these guys? I hope he is that good.
  23. Scherzer does have some weird mechanics and has been somewhat fragile during his time in pro ball. Maybe they are selling high before he isn't worth anything. I would take the risk with the more talented kid, that being Scherzer, myself.
  24. Carlos Gomez is having a fine winter so far.354/.468/.458/.926 through 48 ab's. 6 BB and 2 IBB w/ 14 K's. He has also been hit by 6 pitches in 14 games. Please be careful Carlos. Edit: He currently would be first in the league in BA, OBP, T-7th in SLG, and 3rd in OPS, but he does not qualify (2.7 PA's/team game, currently at 1.26).
  25. I also loved this draft. 1. Eric Arnett: Quick mover who could sniff AA this summer. 2. Kentrail Davis: Reminds me a lot of Rickie Weeks with the bat. 3. Kyle Heckathorne: Crazy slider will rack up plenty of K's for this big righty. 4. Max Walla: I will never forget his post draft interview. Power to spare and a good arm? Sounds like a RF to me. 5. Josh Prince: Great eye and instincts, he should be in AA by 2011 at the latest. 6. Brooks Hall: Looks like a beast. If he bulks up, watch out. 7. Del Howell: Best lefty taken (and signed) after the 10th round in mlb? Howell is probably that guy. 8. Scooter Gennett: Great value sign with the potential to be another Taylor Green or something similar. 9. D'Vontrey Richardson: Holy crap, the initial reports are exciting. Brewers need to take their time, but this is a possible BOOM pick. 10. Cameron Garfield: Rest up Cameron, we could use a big year in R? from you next year. D seems solid, bat is iffy. Pretty similar to everyone else's... Others: Burgos: I love his mound presence, and his stuff ain't to bad either. Halton/Kreiger: Older players in R Ball who put up pretty nice numbers. Hey, either you can hit or you can't. So far these guys can hit. Fiers: I'm with HiAndTight on this one. Brownstein: Versatile McKlevie: Richardson Jr.? Please figure it out Demetrius. Currie/Pokorny: Hopefully, they follow in Wooten's footsteps, or are they converting them to a SP's? Lamontagne: Sleeper alert, especially if he can actually hit 95. Roberts: Supposed mad power. What else? Hope I spelled everyone's names right...
