  1. Welcome TheGoldenGreek33! You mentioned you had a Top 100...is that online somewhere? I would be interested in taking a look. I live in Mpls. Any MN preps that I should be aware of and (and possibly go see) this summer?
  2. Not that defending the Cubs makes me feel right, but Castro's D has been well regarded by all the scouts I have heard/read. If they do end up n the middle of the pack, it is only because they have two top 30 prospects in all of baseball (Castro and Vitters).
  3. Josh, please just ignore them. I can remember many times when Josh has tipped us on milb transactions, wether it be his guys in the CC trade or just simple milb level shifting. Thank you very much.
  4. Melvin has to make this happen. What are we looking at? Gamel, Lawrie, and one of our best milb pitchers? More? That's pretty stiff, but this is what it will take to get back in playoff contention next year.
  5. Imo, it pretty much seems like the Royals got two Teahen's for one Teahen. I know the three aren't that similar, but they all pretty much stink. At least Getz and Fields are under control for awhile.
  6. Ummm, I'd take that! Haha, I know you meant OPS, just thought that was funny.
  7. Wow, that would be a great deal for the Royals but it has to be for one or the other, right?
  8. Eventful top of the 4th for Wooten. Got David Cooper to FO with one pitch. Kalish singled (I like this guy a lot) and Matt Dominguez reached on a Taylor Green error at third. Now, with men at 1st and 3rd, Robby Woot got Casey Kelly to ground into a double play with Green starting it. Way to pick the pitcher and yourself up Taylor! Those are some pretty big names that Woot had to get through in that inning. Every single one of those guys will see the majors soon.
  9. Rogers is just getting destroyed in the 3rd inning. Bad. His fastball has been 91-94 with about 5-6'' of break. High 80's slider with about 6'' of break and a high 70's curve with about 12'' of break. Edit: Rogers got pulled after allowing two 2-run bombs, 5 hits, and a walk. He got one guy out (on a line out). Woot coming in. Not looking good for the Javelinas. Wooten sitting 86-88 with his 4-seamer with 6-8'' of break, high 70's on his slider with 11'' of break, and 84-85 on the splitter with 9'' of break. Wooten limits the damage getting a K and flyout. Edit 2: Oh man, Lucroy must've just missed a grand salami! He had bases loaded, no outs, and drove one to left. Gameday had it being caught at the wall by Ryan Kalish. Still got a RBI. I wonder if Kalish made a diving/leaping play because all of the runners advanced on the play. Green, leading off the inning, singled and scored on a bases loaded walk.
  10. Maybe because he doesn't have the best command yet?? Idk, he looks to be nothing but a SP in my eyes...
  11. Butler off to a nice start so far tonight. No Brewers hitters in tonight. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2009_11_03_perwin_scowin_1
  12. He's not far behind what Freddy Sanchez was for them. Could be better if he gets the league switch bump in production.
  13. It could be because I liked the Z formula of taking someone that is the best at something (power, fastball, curve, speed, whatever. Arnett did have a top 5 or so slider going into the draft. Pretty hard to get the 'best' with Strasburg around. Also, his FB had to be considered top 10 at least because of his semi-polished command and above average velocity.
  14. Braddock steady has always. Got the save for the Javelinas pitching a scoreless inning with a K. Cain walked and scored but that's it. Omar Aguilar also pitched, getting touched up a bit. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2009_11_02_perwin_scowin_1
  15. Stephen Strasburg received $50m for 6 years without having to throw a pitch in an MLB game. I would equate that to getting paid. I'm not saying this is the norm, but for many first round picks, they are overpaid from the beginning. What? I thought it was a 15 million dollar deal?
  16. I have to say I still like Walla a lot. I just remember that post-draft interview he did. He was very excited and had some of that Ryan Braun swagger. I have to think the surprise player from this draft is Josh Prince. Although he def. struggled some once he got to WI, his strike zone recognition seemed very solid and his speed is obviously game changing. I don't remember any reports on how his D looked but the post-draft report said he was solid. I'm guessing he will start next year at WI but Brevard isn't out of the realm of possibility. Does anyone think Prince could be knocking on the mlb door by Sep. 2011 or ST 2012? Also, has he passed Brewer on the org. depth chart? I have to think he is getting pretty close, even after one good half season of pro ball.
  17. So, I was poking around milb.com and took a peek at the winter league stats for all the Brewers players. Here is the link: http://mlb.mlb.com/milb/stats/org.jsp?id=mil Escobar has started his winter league season (10 ab's so far). Also, I know Taylor Greeen's lack of power was noted in the AFL thread, but jeez, the guy is slugging under .200 so far.
  18. Nice work Colby. I'm interested on your take of Max Walla. Were the pre-draft scouting reports a tad exaggerated? Where do you think the Brewers will place him next year? Are there any recent reports on his bat speed you are aware of?
  19. Javelinas taking on Grant Desme and Phoenix today. Cain batting leadoff with a walk and K. Lucroy, batting 7th, with his second bomb of the AFL, this one off Brandon Erbe. Peoria up 1-0 in the top of the 6th. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2009_10_30_perwin_pddwin_1
  20. Lo Cain with a go ahead single in the top of the 8th for the Javelins. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2009_10_29_perwin_msswin_1 Edit: Also, Braddock with a 6 up 6 down save. 3 GO's and 3 FO's. 16 pitches needed
  21. God, please do not let this turn into a 'clutch hitting', 'stolen bases', 'avg v obp' debate. TheFyl, nothing against having a good batting average, but this site typically refers to more advanced metrics that more accurately portray the value of a player (at least imo).
  22. Colby, thanks for shout out and I'm very happy that 5 Tool Talk is back in business! I have to say that signing Kentrail Davis is a huge coup for the Crew. In fact, that whole draft is very impressive. Getting Davis, Heckathorne, Richardson, Hall, Howell, Gennett, and McKelvie all to sign is pretty remarkable. Too bad we couldn't lock in McDaniel, Rutledge, or Stock but we all kinda knew that after they were picked. Getting all those tough signs in the fold really makes the entire class look first rate. Is it March yet?? I want to see what these guys can do!
  23. Would anyone do a Hanson OR Heyward and Freddie Freeman for Braun deal? What if they threw in Lowe or Vasquez? I would be stunned if they traded Braun as I would be if the Braves traded Heyward or Hanson, but it's fun to discuss (therefore not completely moot).
  24. It would be almost impossible to turn down Heyward, Hanson, Schafer, and A ball SP with a big fastball, and I don't even like Schafer all that much.
  25. X, I hope you are right, but I am def. going to wait for results before I judge this move. We all know the guys that he really helped (Hudson, Mulder, Zito, Maine, Ollie) but iirc didn't Pedro and Johan butt heads with him a little bit (not to mention Macha)? This will either be a great move, or Peterson will be gone after one year.
