  1. I think it depends on how many more games Wong misses this year. Wong missed 46 games last year and has already missed 16 games this year. They can platoon Brosseau and Peterson in-house and keep Turang at AAA. I can easily see them letting Wong walk simply because of lack of availability if he misses significantly more games.
  2. The Padres have not cut loose Howell - he is on the Missions roster.
  3. I think you're on the right track with the right team and the right player. The White Sox could really use Severino with Grandal on the IL (and hitting poorly) and their backup catcher hitting poorly. The White Sox also have a glut of OF; a guy who could help this year and not add much payroll is Adam Haseley who is buried behind Robert, Pollock, and Engel. Haseley was the 8th overall pick of the 2017 draft, but for some reason the Phillies traded him to the White Sox for the hard but not necessarily strike throwing McKinley Moore, who slots in at #28 on MLB.com's Phillies top 30 prospects. Haseley could help this year in the OF and will have one option left after the season. Wonder what the Brewers would have to add to Severino to get Haseley from the White Sox. Shouldn't be much if Moore barely is cracking the top 30 for the Phillies. Joe Gray? Zavier Warren? Mario Feliciano? The Brewers started Severino's rehab assignment two weeks before he was eligible to be reinstated. I'm wondering if that's because they're getting inquiries and want him to be ready to be activated the day he is eligible.
  4. He has a career .677 OPS. He should never play anywhere except catcher. The White Sox make a lot of sense for a trade. They have a glut of OFs - Robert, Pollock, Vaughn, Jimenez, and have Haseley and Sheets in AAA. Wonder what the Brewers would have to add to Severino to get Haseley from them.
  5. Houston's catching has been terrible - Maldonado has almost been Cain-bad this year and last year and Castro has been Cain-worse this year. Certainly reason for them to make a trade, even if it's just for the proverbial rookie ball lottery ticket. The Mets' offensive production from catcher this year has also been offensive. Cleveland and the White Sox have also struggled at catcher, especially the White Sox with Grandal on the DL. Plenty of teams with a reason to give up at least a low-level prospect for Severino.
  6. #27 - Justin Campbell, RHP, Oklahoma State; Cooper Hjerpe, LHP, Oregon State; Drew Gilbert, CF, Tennessee #63 - Brycen Mautz, LHP, San Diego; Max Wagner, 3B, Clemson; Eric Brown, SS, Coastal Carolina #72 - Jacob Reimer, 3B, HS; Bradley Loftin, LHP, HS; Ivan Melendez, 1B, Texas #102 - Colby Holcombe, RHP, CC; Trey Lipscomb, 3B, Tennessee; Gavin Kilen, SS, HS #132 - Troy Melton, RHP, San Diego State; Malachi Witherspoon, RHP, HS; Cade Hunter, C, Virginia Tech #162 - Luc Lipcius, 1B, Tennessee (senior sign), Matt Wood, C, Penn State, Cory Lewis, RHP, UC-Santa Barbara #192 - Zach Morgan, C, Fresno State; Steven Zobac, RHP, Cal; Orion Kerkering, RHP, South Florida
  7. Noah Campbell on base all four plate appearances after taking over for Lutz. He now has a higher OPS than Weimer. For those in the know, is Campbell playing LF because he's not good enough defensively to play in the infield, or is it because the team is higher on other infield prospects and LF is the only place to get him in the lineup?
  8. How about another Brewers t-shirt?
  9. Just noticed that the base of the grill is an "M". I think they could have altered that just a bit to look more like one of the Brewers past logos.
  10. Does MLB have a limit on the number of bench coaches?
  11. Can Tommy Pham still play a passable CF? He played 91 innings for SDP last year, and has played >1600 innings at CF in his career. Not a world beater, but won't cost a lot in terms of salary ($6M in 2022 plus $6M/$1.5M buyout in 2023) or prospects and will still be a big upgrade over Cain offensively. At 34 he has no business on the Reds. If the Brewers can't add a lot of payroll, he seems like one of the better OF options available.
  12. Is 40-year-old Wainwright going to hold up over 162 games? Flaherty is talented, but hasn't been able to stay healthy and did not look sharp at all in his first outing off of the DL. Behind that you have Mikolas (who missed most of 2021) and a bunch of nobodys. Get Woodruff and Peralta back, move Ashby to the bullpen so that Suter isn't getting any high-leverage innings, jettison Kelly, and it's a whole new situation.
  13. Turang has hit safely in 8 of his last 9 and 16 of his last 20 games but is still sporting an OPS under .700.
  14. Noah Campbell got the Cam Devanney treatment and leapfrogged A+ to go to AA and is handling it very well to the tune of a .871 OPS heading into tonight. That's only .010 less than Weimer. His upside might be Jace Peterson, but that's a valuable role to fill. I wish that Campbell would get more time in the infield, but maybe he's just not a good enough fielder. A switch-hitting utility infielder is a valuable commodity.
  15. Anaheim is 20 miles from the nearest beach. And a lousy beach at that.
  16. I don't foresee a dramatic drop in oil prices for a long time. There is a lot of pressure on Europe to divest away from Russian oil/gas and it will need to come from somewhere. I heard all but two OPEC countries are maxed out on production with Saudi Arabia being one of the two which gets into other political tensions. Even if the economy slows down, China is still getting back on line which will increase demand. Oil may drop under $100, but I don't think it will see under $80 for years. Right now the US has over 700 oil rigs online and climbing, but that is still less than half of how many were online in 2014. If more rigs come online that will help pipelines even if prices drop. And the US dipped into their oil reserve and at some point will need to restock it. I moved some things around to Energy Transfer. It's down 10% over the last two days. Several analysts expect it to double to $20 in a year or so, and they've said their goal is to increase the dividend to well over $1.00 by end of year. Right now it's yielding almost 8% on a dividend of $0.80.
  17. Joey Weimer OPS - .881 Noah Campbell OPS - .871 Cam Devanney OPS - .856
  18. And don't buy anything from Fanatics that isn't a major independent brand (Nike, Under Armour, etc.). I've purchased four or five things from Fanatics of their private label stuff (Colosseum, etc.) and every one has fallen apart within 2-3 months of purchasing it.
  19. Except that Anaheim is nowhere near the damn beaches.
  20. Is anyone watching the game on FS1 via YouTube TV? Seems like the center channel (announcers) is muffled. Don't have that issue with the commercials.
  21. Sort of agree with you FTC. The housing market having a big slowdown is going to help with commodity prices - lumber, oil byproducts, etc. Also labor. The quotes I've been getting for rebuilding my rooftop deck are 50% higher or more than the quotes I got three years ago. A slowdown in housing construction and building projects will help inflation, which is driving the instability in the market. Companies that serve the lower end of the economy will get hit hard. But what we've seen the last few years is the the lower end of the economy doesn't drive the economy. Once summer is over and the trips that people booked months ago are taken, travel and hospitality will get hit in the fall. That reduction in demand should help gas prices. Inflation may increase the labor participation rate. That will go a long way in filling needed jobs, the labor shortage, rising labor costs, and sustaining the economy from going into recession. Oil prices are the big thing. Gas prices drive the cost of almost all tangible goods as they need to be shipped. Seems like there are similarities to 2008 when all other investments were tanking so investors piled their money into oil futures which shot up gas prices.
  22. The 2014 team didn't have three All-Star starting pitchers, much less two of their three All-Star starting pitchers on the DL for an extended period of time.
  23. That, and in baseball you can't trade up or down. If you don't think a guy will be there with your next pick you have to take him. Maybe a guy you project to go later but before your next pick at $500k below slot is a better overall draft strategy execution than BPA who you know is going to want over slot.
