  1. That middling ACC team was 28th in the nation in yards/game, and only 11 Power 5 conference teams had more yards/game this year than they did. 122 of those 500+ yards came in garbage time in the 4th quarter when UW was up by 21 and was playing their 2nd/3rd/4th string defense. Hell, they were playing their 2nd/3rd string defense most of the game as for most of the game they were without 3 of their top 4 DL and 2 of their top 4 OLBs (specifically, 2 of their only 3 scholarship upper-classmen OLBs). Burks was the only healthy non-Freshman OLB available. I don't know how well you expect 2nd/3rd string front-seven players to do against one of the best offenses in the country, but they met my expectations.
  2. Except for the hospital worker in Grafton who deliberately took 57 vials (500+ doses) out of the freezer and left them out to spoil.
  3. Here's who they were without in the bowl game: Offense: Starting QB (Coan), LT (Van Lanen), C (Lyles), RG (Bruss), and both starting WRs (Davis, Pryor); 2nd string RB (Watson), 4th string RB (Guerendo), 3 additional backup WRs (Mustapha, Bracey, Krumholz) and an additional backup OL (Tippman) During the game, lost their starting LG who was playing LT (Dietzen) (And Mertz and Berger haven't been able to practice much the last two weeks due to concussion and COVID) Defense: Starting DT (Loudermilk), OLB (Green-May), CB (Wildgoose), S (Pearson), 2nd string DT (Hennigsen), OLB (Goetz), CB (Melvin), and another backup S (Cone) and backup DL (Thompson) During the game, lost starting DT (Benton) It's pretty remarkable that they played as well as they did, and would have won by 21 if not for a garbage-time TD against their 3rd/4th string defense.
  4. This didn't age well either. But that's how these up-tempo offenses work. They are designed to get big plays and often do... but they also result in a lot of mistakes made by the offense as well. It's sloppy football, and it's why I absolutely HATE teams that run that type of offense. Just watch Ohio State; they run that up-tempo offense, but they make a lot of mistakes as well and that's why, despite all their talent, they lay a giant egg one game a year (Purdue 2018, Iowa and Oklahoma in 2017, Penn State and Clemson in 2016, almost to Indiana this year). Over the course of 60 minutes these up-tempo teams will get some big plays and cause the defense to make some mistakes; it happens. However, a good defense will eventually capitalize on the mistakes the offense makes. The up-tempo offense also doesn't give their defense much time to rest and/or get coaching on the sidelines, resulting in giving up a lot of points in the 2nd half. This game is a textbook example of how games against these up-tempo teams typically go.
  5. In case people don't remember, in 2018 Maryland had the #7 ranked recruiting class in the nation. Wiggins was a top-50 recruit, Ayala a top-100 recruit. In 2019, Maryland had the #29 ranked recruiting class in the nation. Donta Scott was a top-150 player. Darryl Morsell was a top-100 recruit in 2017. Jairus Hamilton, who transferred there from Boston College, was a top-100 recruit. Maryland is a very talented team that has underperformed. They can beat anyone on any given night.
  6. Wisconsin frugalness comes into play as well. When "diehards" aren't willing to pony up to watch them on TV, that is lost revenue for the team. I mean no disrespect with that comment by the way.... everyone is allowed to spend their money how they wish. Now that the Chargers are gone, San Diego fans literally have nothing else to divide their attention or wallets sports-wise. Milwaukee - and Wisconsin - sports fans have the Brewers, the Packers, the Bucks, Badgers football, Badgers basketball, Marquette basketball, Wisconsin hockey, etc., to divide their attention and wallets. San Diego State and the University of San Diego are nowhere near the draw of even Marquette basketball. It's like why Alabama football brings in so much revenue from boosters. There is nothing else in that state (besides Auburn) to divide their attention and wallets, not even Alabama basketball.
  7. Good teams draft players a year or two before they need them. The point was that the improvements were already on the roster and acquired in 2019 and 2018. Gary, Savage, Keke, Lazard, Tonyan, MVS were who they were counting on for improvements.
  8. See what Peavey wrote right above you. Unless there are set, objective criteria, there is no guarantee that undefeated teams will be included.
  9. Uverse. And they stopped their willingness to deal. And to clarify, that was the all-in price (cable/internet/premiums/etc). Excluding internet and premiums, what was the savings? (I assume by premiums you mean HBO, etc., which have no bearing on watching the Brewers/Bucks.) Not sure where you live, but I'm in Chicago and for $200/month I get cable TV (including MLB/NFL/NBA networks), internet, and cellular service (including the $25/mo for the installment payments on my phone) including all taxes and fees. (No premium channels - I have no interest in those, plenty of programming on regular cable.) The internet + cable is $150, the cellular service with installment payment is under $50.
  10. Regarding expanding the "playoffs" to 8 teams, it's harder to draw the line between #8/9 than it is to draw the line between #4/5. Unless they have set, objective criteria (such as all "Power 5" conference champions, automatic inclusion if undefeated, automatic exclusion with two or more losses, etc.) there's going to be just as much if not even more arguing about who is #8 as there has been about who is #4.
  11. Super conferences just exacerbate the argument of not playing the same schedule. With 16-team conferences you have eight per division, which means seven division games... who do you play the other five games? Even if they don't play any non-conference games, there are still at least three teams in the other division that you don't play. Assuming that Iowa State and Notre Dame get added to the Big Ten, you may still have a situation where Wisconsin plays Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Penn State but, say, Iowa or Minnesota plays Rutgers, Maryland, and Michigan State instead.
  12. That, and neither Minnesota nor Nebraska have the 3rd longest consecutive years of going to a bowl game streak in tact to protect. It's just another year of not going to a bowl game for them.
  13. https://madison.com/wsj/sports/college/football/badgers-qb-jack-coan-enters-transfer-portal/article_aa7f9724-0026-53fd-95c1-74ec0ede55eb.html Embedded in the article is a tweet from Coan's father confirming.
  14. Groshek up the middle until it's 4th down
  15. Even worse play call.
  16. Come on Chandler, a fair catch starts you at the 25. Don't need hero ball.
  17. How many TFLs does Chenal have today?
  18. Now THAT better be targeting
  19. Two bad misses on open receivers. I know that Dunn is 5'6", but he was wide open. You have to consider Wolf or Vanden Boom at this point.
  20. Mertz has lost his confidence. Dike was open coming across the route and he threw it away. Then a dump off on 3rd and 12 for 2 yards.
  21. They always slant the receivers inside. Always. How is that so hard to defend?
  22. Does that replay camera have a fish-eye lens?
  23. Or run on 3rd and 7 from outside the opponent's 30 yard line.
  24. You overestimate Minnesota's defense - they're bad.
  25. Good call. My understanding is that Illinois is the only other school in the Big Ten besides Wisconsin that doesn't make exceptions for NCAA minimum qualifiers, so he should be used to the recruiting requirements to get kids admitted.
