  1. That is basic life psychology. People Management 101. Those who manage people by fear of failure will be less successful.
  2. "I've seen Duane Wilson play a ton in HS. He is an amazingly talented player but he needs to add at least 15lbs of muscle." I think you could say that about most HS basketball players (if not 30 lbs). Semi-worthless random thought I just had - what if Thomas had waited two weeks before deciding on transferring? Would he have a scholarship for next year again? Anyone else out there that can pull a Trent Lockett and graduate with a year of eligibility left that Marquette can bring in at SG? And if there is a scholarship open is there anyone decent taller than 6'7" who still hasn't committed yet? Marquette supposedly offered two guys who haven't committed yet; Brian Bridgewater is a 3-star PF - he's only 6'6" but he makes up for that by being 230 lbs. ESPN scouting report says "He doesn't possess that ideal lengthy frame, but when it comes to strength, bulk, and explosiveness he is peerless". The other is TreShawn Bolden, a 3-star 6'7", 220 lb PF.
  3. Mike Jones was doing OK until he got hurt; you have to wonder about the jump from 33IP in 2001 to 138 in 2002. Same thing happened with JM Gold; he jumped from 20IP in 1998 to 112 in 1999 and then got hurt the next year, and Rogers jumped from 26 in 2004 to 98 in 2005. I had a friend who played in the Brewers minor league system around that time and he said that the organizational philosophy (at least in A-ball) was to put high school pitchers as starters and college pitchers in the bullpen. The theory was that HS pitchers would get more development and "catch up" to the college pitchers by starting. You have to wonder how much the jump in innings hurt the development of these guys. Go back and look at Nick Neugebauer's minor league numbers. They are both sick and will make you sick. As a 19 year old in 128 innings he gave up 78 hits and struck out 174... but he also walked 134. That has to be one of the most amazing minor league seasons ever by a pitcher. But between the walks and strikeouts you have to wonder how many pitches he was throwing in those starts. Same thing with Rogers - he "only" threw 98 innings in his 2nd pro season, but with 70 walks and 110 K's you have to wonder how many pitches he was throwing. What if they had taken their time with those guys like they did with Odorizzi? Would it be a different story? Gallardo had a big jump in innings from his first year to his second; maybe because he walked fewer he had less stress on his arm, maybe he was the exception not the rule.
  4. Two tickets for Brewers vs Cubs, Saturday, 4/20. Great seats - field level row 6 (Section 109). Currently $70 for these seats on Stub Hub. Yours for $50 each.
  5. Maybe Blue is eying Europe. Maybe Blue thinks that he isn't likely to be a 1st round draft pick even if he stays, and the risk of getting injured isn't worth what he could be making in Europe to help his family. Might be a lot of pressure from the family to take the money and play in Europe, especially with a single parent and how much he cares about his mom. Rashard Griffith went to Europe, made a very nice living there, and never cared about the NBA. If that's the case, and he makes anywhere near what Griffith made, I can't blame him at all.
  6. Anyone thinking about going to the game tonight? I have two tickets for field level, 7th row (Section 109), face value is $42 each but they are yours for $15 each. PM me and I can email them to you. If you want the hard tickets as a souvenir I can mail them to you. If you are in the Madison area I can meet you somewhere to give them to you.
  7. Please be smart and don't sign with an agent... Hey Remy Abell, there might be an opening at guard (and a possible scholarship) at Marquette. Your 48.5% from 3-point would fit in real nicely...
  8. The Bucks have gone 13-23 since the beginning of February. The fact that they still made the playoffs and clinched a playoff berth several games ago speaks volumes about how bad the Eastern Conference is, how much disparity there is in the league overall (there are 12 teams with worse records than Milwaukee) and how difficult it will be for the Bucks to be bad enough to get high draft picks to build through the draft. They've had more than "some" injuries. Jennings and Sanders have missed the last two and most of the Orlando game, and Ilyasova missed the Orlando game - that's 3 of their 4 best players. Their best defensive forward, LRMAM, played only 7 minutes against Orlando, and Dalembert has missed the last 6 and 8 of the last 9.
  9. I have two tickets for sale for the Brewers vs Giants on Tuesday 4/16. Excellent seats, field level Section 109 row 7. I will sell at below season ticket holder cost - $25 each (face is $42). I live in Madison so I will have to email the tickets to you for you to get them in time. If you want the hard tickets as a souvenir I can mail them to you but you won't get them in time. If you are in the Madison area I can hand deliver. Thanks!
  10. "In fact, maybe Buzz has players transfer because he is brutally honest about their future instead of making promises he can't keep." This. Despite all of the players who have left, the only one who had anything bad to say was Maymon (or his parents). If Buzz was cutting players without warning you would have heard much more complaining from these kids after they left. He very likely tells them they aren't going to get playing time, and if they want to get playing time their best opportunity will be at another school. If Otule and Mayo come back they will have four seniors and four juniors, plus Taylor and the big freshman class. They will be able to bring in four more recruits the following year too; hopefully they will get one of Okonoboh/O'Mara, one of Looney/White, one of Terrell/Hill, and a juco F/C so they have a little more experience in the post since they will lose Otule, Gardner, and Wilson. Taylor and McKay will be the only players on the team in two years 6'7" or taller and not true freshmen.
  11. Not too many Bucks have had the luxury of being guarded by Marquis Daniels in the closing seconds trying to make a shot at the end of regulation.
  12. No Dalembert, and LRMAM - the Bucks best defender not named Sanders, who would have been guarding Harris - played six minutes. Come on, John Henson went for 17 points, 25 rebounds, and 7 blocks (since 1985-86 how many times has that happened?), but he isn't the second coming of Nate Thurmond.
  13. You're right, it's the system. The NCAA does not allow schools to give out multi-year scholarships - every scholarship is for one year only and renewable on an annual basis. But many schools oversign players, including national champion Louisville: http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/09/20/pitino-lands-4th-2013-recruit-why-isnt-there-more-oversigning-outrage/ According to this article, 22% of NCAA basketball players each year leave their program for reasons other than graduation or turning pro: http://www.crimsonquarry.com/2012/5/17/3027143/indiana-hoosiers-and-the-oversign-tom-crean-plays-the-numbers-game Oversigning goes on all over in the NCAA, but the 22% non-graduation/pro attrition rate usually prevents it from becoming an issue. If you look at what happened to Buzz, he had injuries (Otule, McMorrow), players transfer due to family issues (Mbakwe), playing time (Maymon, and apparently as of yesterday Ferguson), injuries/playing time/homesick (Williams), and had players quit (Roseboro, Smith, Taylor). He has been playing with a short roster most of his first few seasons (10 most of last year, 11 the year before, 9 the year before that, 10 the year before that) and likely wants to prevent that from happening again. The risk is having one too few scholarships. Happens other places, we just don't hear about it. Ferguson's transfer means that Otule can come back without any issues with scholarships for next year.
  14. I wouldn't get too worked up over the loss of Newbill. He shot 40.5% from the floor, 26.7% from 3-point, 68.4% from FT, and most alarmingly, averaged 3.9 turnovers per game. He got a lot of points because he took a lot of shots. Don't think that would have helped Marquette much if at all. It works both ways. Kids change their minds about schools just like schools change their minds about kids. Kids decommit and transfer from schools all the time. If you are counting on a kid because he gave you his word, and then at the last minute the kid changes his mind what does the school do then? Blue decommitted from UW. Brust decommitted from Iowa. Uthoff decided to transfer without talking to Bo first, and that left UW shorthanded this year. Marquette had two scholarships open this year because kids left the program. With football you have a lot more scholarships so it isn't as big of a deal, but with only a few basketball scholarships open every year each one counts. Newbill ended up at Penn State, much closer to his hometown of Philadelphia, and got to start this year instead of sitting on the bench so in the end it probably worked out better for him. One last note about Jake Thomas, I could be wrong but I believe one of Zak Showalter or Zach Bohannon had the same deal with UW this year - got a one-year scholarship because UW had scholarships open (because Uthoff changed his mind about UW), but will not have a scholarship next year.
  15. Looking at his career stats he has to have incriminating pictures of Mark A. or Melvin to stay with the organization for so long.

  17. You know, because everyone is on Twitter and Facebook. /blue
  18. How did Hunt not know that Thomas was only on a one year scholarship? I knew that when he enrolled. Is it me or does Michael Carter Williams look like a cross between Tiger Woods and Jeff Dunham's character Peanut?
  19. If anyone knows anybody who is looking for Final Four tickets, PM me ASAP. A really good friend of mine has two tickets for sale. Section 103 (lower level), less than what they are listed for in that section on Stub Hub. He will split Saturday and Monday.
  20. How much of the 2009 draft can be blamed on Seid, and how much of it can be blamed on the entire Brewers scouting system which, IIRC, had been raided and had most if not all of the upper-level positions filled with people who were promoted or new to their positions? Is it a function of one person, or a bunch of people who were new to their roles? As for 2011 and Jed Bradley, that pick had to be on the conservative side because the Brewers had little leverage - that was the Covey pick, and if they didn't sign that player they lost the pick. Debate Jungmann all you want, but if they picked a HS player at #15 any agent worth anything would have had the Brewers under his thumb.
  21. Rick Flair's son Reid has apparently died: http://www.foxsportswest.com/pages/print_landing?blockID=886027&feedID=3707
  22. Good to see Lamontagne back. He was looking very good at Huntsville before the injury. Interesting that both Nick Ramirez and Cody Hawn are at Brevard. Will Hawn try to move back to 3B?
  23. Come on over to Lambealeap.net! We have run a mock NFL draft for the last several years and could use some extra people this year. Need to make sure that you can check at least once or twice a day to keep the draft moving. We are also doing group picks (one person makes 2-4 picks at a time) to speed up the process, and usually do two rounds. Use the quick link above to jump over the the NFL Draft forum at Lambeauleap.net. Thanks!
