  1. Not saying Gennett is a bad player - I did say he should be #6. I'm saying that people undervalue Schafer, and that he's a better hitter than people think.
  2. Dumb question, what address/intersection would I want to put into my GPS to get me to the stadium?
  3. Scooter Gennett's line from Brevard (21 years old, 2nd professional season): .300/.334/.406, 601 PA/35 xbh, 27BB:69K Logan Schafer's line from Brevard (22 years old, 2nd professional season): .313/.369/.446, 505 PA/43 xbh, 38BB:53K Gennett is generally considered to have below average defense at 2B, Schafer is genrally considered to have above average defense at CF. So... who should be #4 and who should be #6?
  4. "Its way too early to throw Harris into that list. Maybe too early for Sanders (but he has his foot in door). " Yep, Harris isn't even 20 years old yet. If he were a Brewers draft pick, people would be praising the upside of drafting a guy so young. As for Sanders, and Harris, you just don't get franchise players at #15. If you look at the 2010 draft, the only player picked after Sanders that is significantly better is Landry Fields and maybe Trevor Booker, but they are forwards; everyone else is an also-ran. I get though that your point is not to draft at #15 - to get lottery picks in good drafts.
  5. "Watching games like the MU-Cincinnati game right now just gets me absolutely irritated at Buzz Williams (and I had the same problem with Tom Crean) for the utter lack of ability to recruit big men." This isn't true. He signed Liam McMorrow in 2008, but he chose to retire due to injury. He signed Youssoupha Mbao in 2009, but he transfered. He recruited a 6'9" top juco player IIRC two years ago, but he did something really stupid (I think got arrested) and Marquette rescinded their scholarship offer. IIRC, Gardner wouldn't be here if Marquette hadn't rescinded that offer - I believe he replaced that guy with Gardner.
  6. I think I have a new favorite phrase: "Continue trending."
  7. Fielder's loss has a bigger impact than people think; his protection behind Braun had a bigger influence on the outcome of games than most will give credit to. That being said, the Brewers had a lot of players miss significant time last year (Grienke, Hart, Braun, Weeks, Gomez, every LH bullpen pitcher), and K-Rod over Loe in the 8th saves a few more games. Biggest concern is the health of Parra/Stetter/Braddock; if two of the three are healthy and miss no more than 3 weeks of the season I see good things. Slight step backwards, but still make the playoffs. 93-69 Player of the Year: Weeks. Braun gets pitched around, tries too hard in early part of season. Weeks bats cleanup and with Braun on base in front of him has big year. Pitcher of Year: Gallardo. Mr. Consistency Rookie of Year: Green. Gamel struggles, A-Ram takes over first, Green takes over 3rd. Most Improved: Parra. Overcomes injures, becomes solid LH in bullpen. First contract extension: Grienke. Gave up too much for this not to happen. First player released: Does Tim Dillard count? If not, Veras. They go with two lefties in the pen. What place in Central do they finish? 2nd, by one game. The Classies get Wainwright back, and with Motte becoming the full time closer both mitigate the loss of Pujols.
  8. "I agree on the suspensions, but I thought it was somewhat odd that Mayo got to play in the 1st half. Do 2nd half suspensions happen that often?" They had to do it that way. They only had 9 healthy players going into the game. If they sat all four the first half they would have had only 5 bodies for the first half.
  9. I love how the announcer said that this is "the best officiated game" he has seen this season. Well, the officials badly missed a goaltending call on Iowa in the first half, and now refused to call a flagrant foul on Marble who shoved Taylor from behind. So this game was, in effect, decided by the officials, which makes it one of the worst officiated games of the season.
  10. 1. How the heck is Iowa 6-8 and 14-13? B. Where has this Rob Wilson been the last three years?
  11. "The Brewers used a pinch hitter 257 times last season with an OPS of .619 " Hate to burst your bubble, but the maximum number of times that Branyan could pinch-hit in a season would be 162.
  12. Got my Bag of Crap. Would have loved it if I had kids. Got a remote control helicopter (previously opened, instructions were terrible and translated from Japanese but I figured it out and it works), an Ultimotion motion controlled video game for kids (a cheap Wii knockoff), some glow sticks, a 20-pack of Fuji AA batteries that was opened (at least I can use them), a small blue cylindrical duffel bag, and a teal plain t-shirt, size XL (at least I got lucky with that). So I'll give the kids crap to a co-worker who has a 6-year old boy and I'll be left with some AA batteries and a t-shirt for doing yardwork and painting... when I actually have a yard to do work and a place I own to paint.
  13. All it takes is two teams to bid against each other - Detriot and Washington. If there was another mystery team in there bidding I'd say it was the Orioles - they desperately need to make a splash in their division. Glad he went to the AL and not Chicago or St. Louis. As I type this, ironically, from St. Louis. But I wouldn't get real excited about pick #27/28. Not a lot of impact players taken around there. Hopefully they can get lucky and find a Wainwright or a Colby Rasmus or Gio Gonzalez. Not many impact bats there; the odds of landing an impact pitcher are better.
  14. EVERYBODY did that. Just think of how lucky us Wisconsin sports fans have been when it comes to radio voices of our teams: Bob Uecker Jim Irwin/Max McGee, Wayne Larrivee Matt Lepay John McGlocklin (I remember him yelling at the refs over the air during a big game once, I think the year they got jobbed in the playoffs - 2001?) I'd put that group up against any city/state/region in the country.
  15. Dammit, I had Mick Foley's alter ego "Dude Love" as my surprise entry in the Rumble. So much for that surprise.
  16. I won some crap!! I knew that desk job would get me somewhere someday!!
  17. I could see the WWE putting more than a handful of potted plants in the crowd on Monday with Funkasurus signs to try to get it over via the follow-the-herd/"trending" theory.
  18. Fill in the blank: The Brodus Clay gimmick is the worst gimmick since __________. Some liked it, but the crowd was sitting on their hands, and that doesn't last long in this business.
  19. For what reason, exactly? The team doesn't have good shooters, and they don't have athletes. The biggest reason they hold opponents to low point totals is more a produce of their long offensive possessions than their defensive ability. Where are the resume wins going to come from? Damn near got one at Duke tonight. Missed two 3-point shots in the last few seconds that would have sent it into overtime. The list of teams that have won at Duke in the last 20 years is a very short list. Oh, and their forwards are very athletic.
  20. If those guys were great players they would have been drafted in the first round. They were drafted where they were (2nd - 4th) because they had some above-average skills but needed to improve some areas. Some people scream "draft HS players because they have a higher ceiling!!!", but the reality is that it is hardest to tell with HS players because of the level of competition they play; they have the most adjustments to make, and thus it may take longer if they ever even make those adjustments. Pretty much everyone after the middle of the 1st round has to make adjustment and/or improve certain areas in order to make the majors. Take some time to go back to the 2000-2005 drafts and look at what % of 2nd-4th round picks make the majors. That will give you some perspective. Ironically, except for Yo Gallardo in 2004, a vast majority of the best major league players drafted in the 2nd round were college players, and typically it is only 3-4 major league starting caliber players in the 2nd round of any draft.
  21. Steroids don't help hitters make contact, but they do help hit home runs. I'll disagree with that. Steroids improve your eyesight, which helps you see the ball better. Steroids also improve your reaction time, which helps you react to the pitch quicker. Both, I will argue, indirectly help you make contact. Will they turn a .200 hitter into a .300 hitter? No. But seeing the ball better and having quicker reaction time will help you make contact more frequently.

  24. Two questions: 1) Anyone know how to rotate a .MOV video file (besides turn your monitor on its side)? 2) What's the best way to adjust font size on Firefox? When I try to make it larger in the Options settings it screws up the way some web pages display. When I change the font settings on Windows it does the same thing. But there are several different font settings in Advanced settings, and I can't seem to find the right combination. For example, I'm trying to make the text here on BF.net larger, but can't figure out how to without screwing up how some other pages display. Thanks!
  25. Could "TV seats" mean that you are behind or next to the camera station? The one WWE event I went to at the Bradley Center ~15 years ago I had lower level seats and they were right next to the TV cameras so I wasn't on TV. Sucked because I had the best signs in the arena (smuggled in a couple of hollowed out grapefruits, hung them on a stick, and held them up next to a sign that said "I have McMahon's balls", which was shortly after his infamous "grapefruits" comment; plus another sign that said, "Section 2:13 - I just got screwed by Ticketmaster"), but couldn't get on camera because I was next to it. The camera man loved the grapefruits and tried to get a shot, but I was too close.
