  1. Because Kottaras hits LH and Rivera is RH and the Brewers wanted an experienced RH bench bat.
  2. Pretty sure it's just to get the rust off of Schaefer. I'd bet he's in Huntsville by June 1st.
  3. I'll take the long shot that Rivera had a clause in his contract that he needed to be called up by June 1st or he could opt out of his contract and become a free agent. The Brewers kept three catchers on the roster earlier this season so it's not out of the realm. But with Lucroy healthy now they have a decent defensive catcher who will play 80% of games making Nieves (more) unnecessary, with Rivera catching one specific starter.
  4. My old roommate had that happen a few months ago - it's serious malware and you need to get rid of it. Do an internet search on what comes up and follow the instructions on how to remove it. It will hijack your computer and not let you do anything unless you pay $60 (and then it will probably steal your credit card info). The only reason there weren't viruses for Macs is because hackers weren't coding them for Mac software. Macs are just as vulnerable as PCs, perhaps now more since Microsoft has upped their security software.
  5. Just curious, has he soured on free AVG or on pay-for AVG? I got pay-for AVG for a net of like $30 when purchased in combination with tax software and it came with a two-year license and I could install in multiple computers. I just don't trust free anti-virus. From what I have seen they aren't proactive, they are reactive - they will remove/scan but they won't stop if you click on an infected email attachment or link. For $30 I'll take peace of mind for two years, plus I believe it comes with $2500 in insurance protection in case it fails. I went through the hassle of a virus about 8 years ago and I would pay $30 in a heartbeat to avoid that again.
  6. Katin wouldn't be starting though over Braun or Hart, so his knees wouldn't really be an issue unless one of them got hurt and Katin had to play every day, right? I would think that for the limited playing time he would get in the bench role he would have plenty of time to rest his knees. In fact, wouldn't that be better for his knees than playing every day in Nashville?
  7. I believe that's your answer. They know this is just a short-term thing so they need someone who they can bring up for a few days and send back down without losing them. I don't believe that they can do that with DiFelice, and yes I like DiFelice.
  8. Oh, there are always exceptions, particularly with certain grapes. Ridge makes a great zinfandel blend and Menage a' Trois makes a good red blend, both for around $10-$15, however I certainly can tell the difference between those two and Ferrari-Carano's Tresor blend. Part of it is the grape being used, part of it is the year and how good that year was for growing conditions in that area (most wines from 2000 from the Napa/Sonoma area are very good because it was a great year for growing grapes), part of it is leaving it in the bottle for the right amount of time for the right grape. But I guarantee you I can tell the difference between a Tresor or a Cain V meritage than any $10-$15 blend, or any wine-by-the-glass I have had at any restaurant.
  9. You're grasping at straws here. And you keep ignoring the no change fee. Even as someone who obviously is not a Southwest fan, you have to admit that's a nice thing to have. The "maybe ill get an aisle seat maybe I won't" couldn't be further from the truth. If you fly frequently Southwest checks you in and puts you at the front of the line. If I'm grasping at straws, you are grasping at them too because you have not acknowledged the extra 5" of leg room in Economy Plus on United, the free movies/video on Continental, the TV and extra leg room on Jet Blue, the internet on (some flights with) American, and the internet/TV on Delta and Virgin America. Southwest has none of those. You get two free checked bags on all of those airlines if you have status even at the lowest level, but the only time I usually check a bag is the once or twice a year I bring my golf clubs with me somewhere. And when I book a flight I know for sure whether or not I have an aisle seat, even if I don't have status like the Delta flight I took a few weeks ago - I don't have status on Delta but was able to book an aisle seat towards the back of the plane by checking the seating map when I booked. When you fly cross-country a lot those things have a lot more value to me than the rare occasion that I would need to change a flight. If I had a career where I had a lot of uncertainty with my schedule or wanted to book a flight in advance to a sporting event that my team may or may not participate in then I could definitely see the value of a no change fee. But it's also nice to have the comfort of leg room (being 6'3") and/or entertainment without having to bring anything extra with you when you have 4-5 hours to kill. Being able to watch the Brewers-Phillies game and see them beat Halladay on my Delta flight was a great way to spend a good chunk of my flight from Atlanta to LA. That's the beauty of the airline industry - each airline is customizing their product to meet certain segments of the market so that all travelers needs are met.
  10. It's a combination of status and when you check in. And I'll take the extra 5" of leg room on United, the movies/video on Continental, the TV on Jet Blue, the internet on Delta or Virgin America, the ability to pre-select the emergency exit row on American, or the ability to use the miles I've accrued on any of them (except Jet Blue) towards a ticket to or an upgrade to business class on a flight to Europe, Asia, Australia, or South America (and Jet Blue can take you to the Caribbean) over free bags which I don't get charged for anyway and a maybe-I'll-get-an-aisle-seat, maybe-I-won't.
  11. Yes, go to the Canadian side. I recommend staying overnight - they have plenty of nightlife there now with the casinos and good restaurants in the casinos and surrounding area. And make sure you eat at the Flying Saucer cafe. Yes, the restaurant looks like the proverbial "flying saucer" UFO. Actually, go by there at night - it is lit up with blinking colored lights like a proverbial "flying saucer". Oh, and let the g/f go shopping or gambling while you make a little side trip to the Sundowner... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. The band that you need to see is Here Come The Mummies on July 7th. They put on an amazing show and are one of the few bands I've seen that are better live than in person, and they have the coolest entrance of any band I have ever seen. 9-man funk band that I would say is a cross between Morris Day & The Time meets Oingo Boingo with Seth Rogen-esque humor. One on baritone sax, one on tenor sax, two on trumpet (with one doubling on harmonica and vocals), lead guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, drums, and bongos. They get DOWN. Their website has lots of videos from shows and appearances on the Bob & Tom show. It's an all ages show, but while they don't use any obscenities in any of their lyrics they use a lot of innuendo. So while they dress like mummies (several reasons for that), unless you want your grade schooler singing "Do the walk, do the walk, do the walk, do the walk of shame..." in school the next day I'd pass on bringing the young ones.
  13. It's about marketing. They were the first to advertise fares divided in half as "each way" and in the fine print said it was Tuesdays & Wednesdays at least 21 days in advance with limited seats available and that it did not include taxes and airport fees. When you added up the cost of each segment plus taxes and airport fees on the same days and times it is no different than any other airline. It's just that other airlines showed you the complete cost with taxes & airport fees which appear to be more expensive, and Southwest never published their fares anywhere except their website so you couldn't directly compare their fares to other airlines at the same place. As for free checked bags... if you are a frequent flier on any airline you get two free checked bags. I get two free bags on United/Continental and American. If you rarely fly and are going somewhere in the U.S. and are bringing a lot of stuff with you then you might save some money here, I'll grant that. The thing that I hate about Southwest is no reserved seats. I don't want to have to line up a half hour before the flight boards to get a shot at a better seat - my time is worth something. At 6'3", 220, with broad shoulders I will pay more for an aisle seat. Plus on United they have Economy Plus with 5" extra legroom (36" seat pitch instead of 31"). It's a free-for-all getting on the plane. If I was a small or average size person I probably wouldn't mind a window or even a middle seat but not at my size. So if you are a small or average sized person, don't fly frequently, bring a lot of stuff with you, and only travel domestically then Southwest is probably fine. But that does not fit my travel profile at all.
  14. There are still options in the minors, but there isn't that one can't-miss guy at the position that leads me to believe the position can't be significantly upgraded. The Brewers are really, really high on Logan Schafer. Great arm, above-average speed, hits lefty, and put up an .815 OPS at pitcher-friendly Brevard in 2009. He's your CF of the future. I don't disagree with CF, just not in the first round. Schafer was a 3rd round pick, as was Grady Sizemore. I think you can get good OFs in rounds 3-5.
  15. # Ryan Soares singles on a ground ball to pitcher Corey Frerichs. # Pitcher Change: Trey Watten replaces Corey Frerichs. Was Frerichs injured on the play? Did he take a hard comebacker? Seems odd for him to come out after two batters in an inning after a "(single) on a ground ball to pitcher".
  16. Try the Ferrari Carano Tresor and it will change your mind about paying more than $20 for a bottle of wine. I'm a meritage fan, and if you want a good blend at a lesser price then try Ferrari Carano's Siena. If you must go cheap, then I recommend Menage a Trois red blend. Can usually be had for $10. Edit - if you're looking for a white wine, I recommend Conundrum. Best white wine I've ever had. I believe a little over $10 as well.
  17. My understanding is that a player can be outrighted once in his career without exposing him to waivers. There is a difference between "outrighting" and being waived or being optioned.
  18. So who are you going to trade to upgrade the position - Rogers, Rivas, Peralta, or Heckathorn? Those are pretty much the only trade options left (until Thornburg is a year post-draft).
  19. Are my eyes deceiving me, or did Brendan Katin not play in either game for Nashville? Odd to not play in either game of a doubleheader... And there's room on the Mike Walker bandwagon. Picking up where he left off last year with an OBP >.500 so far.
  20. I'll never argue with drafting pitching because you can always trade pitching. Same kind of goes with catching. Don't know that I could get behind spending a first round pick on an OF this year. I think you can get OF bats later in the draft. Gamel was a 4th, Hart a 10th, Cain a 17th, Gindl a 5th, Schafer a 3rd, Komatsu an 8th, Khris Davis a 7th. They don't necessarily need to go SS in the first round, but if they don't I think they need to draft about six of them in the first 20 rounds with half of them college guys who have the potential to move up quickly. Daniel Norris at #12 and Blake Swihart at #15 would be dandy as far as I'm concerned. Oh yeah, and they HAVE to draft Dante Bichette, Jr.
  21. As long as no MLB/team names, logos, or trademarks are on it it's totally OK. #2, or Plush, could be anybody and colors certainly aren't trademarked.
  22. I know it's not a major issue, but I wish we would have kept Meeks. I thought the Bucks had a steal when they got Meeks in the second round. But if you look back at the thread from last season you will see plenty of people who said he sucks and the Bucks shouldn't have drafted him. You have to give a guy more than a year or two. On that subject, no reason to think that a 21-year-old can't improve. An interesting comparison to Jennings is Iverson, especially when you look at shooting percentages. Interesting that even though Jennings 3-point % was down this year, it was still higher than Iverson's 3-point career average. Jennings overall shooting % improved this season (even if his 3-point % went down) and his turnovers/game slightly decreased. His rebounding and fouls/game slightly improved as well. Considering he was hurt for a good chunk of the season, that's a good sign.
  23. there's too much money to be made with a kid-friendly product. Buyrates are down, but Vince is making money hand over fist with endorsement deals and the like. Wouldn't count on PG going away anytime soon. Exactly. Why do you think that Justin Bieber gets/got pushed? You think he was "discovered" on YouTube? B.S., that's where he got pushed because they knew that's where they could reach the tweens. The only people with money right now are the parents of kids 7-13. They are the ones spending money on stuff. The "hardcore" wrestling fans who are/were in their 20's don't have any money now. When the economy was booming in the late 90's during the heyday of wrestling they did. Now they are broke/unemployed/foreclosed on. So what's popular with the kids 7-13 is what gets pushed. Thus explaining Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana, Taylor Swift, etc. Right now in entertainment marketing you have to market to 40+ or under 18. There's no money in the 20s & 30s age groups.
  24. Ain't nothing wrong with a good ol' cookie or ice cream cone every once in a while.
