  1. JJhardy7: I believe that write up was by John Hollinger, who has always been more bullish on Gooden because he has a decent PER and is a good rebounder. Obviously, Maggette scores really high on PER as well. It's gonna be very interesting to see if the new guys are gonna fit into Skiles' system. Very excited for the season.
  2. greeg35: I didn't want Gadz signed either (I was a Zaza guy as well. Bucks thought his game was too similar to Bogut's), but at the end of the day, C's get paid. Even ones who just show a glimpse of potential....Gortat, Jerome James, Amir Johnson, McAlvine. I could go on forever. Paulus88 hit the nail on the head for me. If you believe in the rookie you just spent a 1st rounder on and one of your more clutch players from last year, you don't go out and sign a Drew Gooden for 5 years. If you believe in your prior moves he should be a 3rd stringer playing 18 minutes a game a year from now, which would be a tough piece to unload when the guy's owed 4/26m.
  3. Gadz averaged 7 and 8 in his contract year at a much more premier position, and was considered to still have some upside. No one could predict the future and know he would be useless for a majority of it. Sure, Gooden's contract might be movable after year 2, but that's only if this current team sinks like the 2006 squad and has to blow it up. So yes, technically he could be traded with an attractive piece in some kind of salary dump. But are teams going to want him outright after year 2? No. Definitely Not. Unless his contract gets reworked during the upcoming lockout.
  4. Melvin has handled this situation fine, imo. 2B's not named Utley don't break the bank, so maybe Doug wants to wait until early next year and see how he performs until then. If he has to pay closer to market value, so be it. Wait until May or June 2011 and see if he's still raking AND healthy.
  5. Wow, that was a beautiful catch. Best of the year for Gomez, imo.
  6. Macha rarely give a day off to our top 4 guys tho. Something may be going on.
  7. The only reason we're even able to talk about Beckham is precisely because of his bad year. It's a great bargaining tool for Melvin. If he would of improved off of last year he would be one of the most untouchable players in the game, and the Sox probably wouldn't even be looking to make a trade. I was thinking the same thing after suggesting dangling Lawrie and being told that was too much. McGehee would be a nice piece for them.
  8. Stan Van Gundy's system and Skiles' system are nearly identical. Defend the paint with a dominant big man and d up the corner 3, kick it in to your post player on O and shoot the corner 3. Reddick has improved as a defender. I doubt he's below avg. He's still getting a bad rep from his first few years.
  9. Chuck Hayes is 6'6", and he is strictly a 5 only. Good low post defender too.
  10. Brockman with a resigned Kurt Thomas? He really enjoyed it here. Hell, Ilyasova could fill in certain nights. I'd rather stick a PF who can actually play in the backup C role than sign a big 7 ft stiff backup like Gadz. If you watched any summer league, it also looks like Sanders could fill in at the 5 if he adds another ten pounds. Huge frame. OKC and HOU are the best run franchises and probably have the most advanced FO's in the league. The fact that they stayed out of the craziness speaks volumes to me. I hope Gooden buys into the system but I'm doubting it. That's why I hate going 5 yrs so much. He could very possibly be the #3 or 4 PF after year 1. Plus, as I mentioned, we need a 3 pt specialist badly. I'd have much rather given Reddick 5/32 than Gooden. Anthony Morrow, the best 3 pt shooter in the league, got 3/12 from the Nets. All of the crazy bad contracts were given out before the big 3 signed, which is exactly the opposite of what everyone else predicted.
  11. I wonder if at some point Lawrie could come into play. If the FO believes Weeks is the long term answer at 2b, maybe they would part with him with Fielder to get a bigger haul. Hudson, Beckham, Viciedo for Prince, Lawrie, Counsell/Inglett. Too much to give up?
  12. It seems the roster is set. I think we're still one dead eye shooter away from going deep in the playoffs though. I wish we could of signed reddick instead of gooden. With the additions of Brockman and Sanders, and progression in Ers and Lrmam, I think we're fine without gooden.
  13. Speaking of the Hawks and Horford, they just signed Johnson to a huge max deal. And as you said danzig they're probably gonna want to keep Horford, who could get the max from someone in a weak fa year like that. That might mean they have to move Josh Smith. I'm not a huge fan of the knucklehead, but I admit he is somewhat intriguing if you can get him for MREC and a pick/prospect. I think the only way they'd unload him is if they were just a borderline playoff team though. Unlikely, but I could see it with so many teams receiving an overhaul this summer.
  14. I hope Braun wasn't barking at Donnelly for coming inside. There was no intention there at all. I hate what the Braves did to Prince. But Braun looked like an idiot out there.
  15. Those called 3rd strikes would drive Ozzie crazy. Plus, do you know the guy doesn't even like to play baseball that much? /Ricciardi On a serious note, why would they prefer Dunn over Fielder? Isn't he a FA at the end of the year?
  16. Same here. I stopped after season 4. First few were really great though. A lot of good parodies out there. I like this one... NSFW language.
  17. What's the deal with Casey Crosby? Did he go under the knife again? A lot of upside there. I'd like to get Andrew Oliver. He got hit around in his brief stint, but he could be in the rotation next year.
  18. Beckham is way too talented to be stuck as a utility guy. I'd probably look to trade Casey to a contender at this deadline. He's solid but replaceable. Beckham would be our new 3rd baseman.
  19. Don't d league players count towards your 15? TLB: He's turned himself into a good 3 pt shooter. Outta who was left, this is who I wanted. Brockman is a good bench big. good pick up.
  20. Plus, his pre at-bat song is The Outfield - Your Love. Me likey. Colbyjack mentioned the Hudson/Beckham "rumor" a few pages back and a few days before everyone else started talking about it on here. I was surprised it didn't garner a stronger reaction right away. If the White Sox are going for it, aren't they gonna need a stop gap at 2b? They'd probably also want a SP. I'd go their choice of Counsell/Inglett, Bush, and Fielder for Beckham and Hudson. That's a good trade for both teams.
  21. Well Weeks took care of Tommy Hanson for Braun last night. Maybe he can serve a linedrive off of Venters elbow tomorrow.
  22. Apparently the braves don't like the way prince finishes his swing. Why is Boobby cox still in this game?
