  1. I asked this early but I am not sure if got answered. Was Epstein more involved in the draft than other GM's because here all credit was given to Jack Z for the drafts and very little to Melvin. Why is Epstein getting all the credit for Red Sox drafts? Do they not have a director of scouting? Another reason why the Red Sox are able to have such good drafts. They have had 21 first round or sandwich picks since 2005. That is a great way to restock a system. They had a lot of Type A and B Free Agents who went elsewhere giving them good talent. That is crazy. It takes nothing away from Theo but I thought it was interesting
  2. Signing Crawford at his age and for that contract was a mistake. He is definitely better than Hendry but I am interested to see what he does with that farm system
  3. Epstein was a good gm but I do have a question why he gets credit for drafts for Boston but some here only give Jack Z credit for draft in Milwaukee. Not saying that is true for you toolive. Also other moves that Epstein made involving trading big prospects include Beckett for #1 overall and #40 overall prospects Hanley Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez. Trading one time #60 prospect and #44 prospect (Masterson and Hagadone) and a former first round pick for Victor Martinez. Brandon Moss and Craig Hansen were both top 70 prospects he traded for Jason Bay. He has traded a lot of top end prospects for guys in the past. And most of the trades have worked out. My main point is the Cubs dont have a lot of top end guys. How many top 100 prospects do they have? His contracts lately have not been near as good. The Beckett extension looks questionable. The Crawford deal looks bad. The Dice-K deal was terrible. The Drew deal was bad. Letting Bay walk was good. He has been fairly hit or miss recently. I think he is a good baseball guy but I question him really being the savior of the Cubs
  4. Prince Fielder? The Cubs always seem to be able to get good trades. Hee-Seop Choi for Derrek Lee. Jose Hernandez for Aramis Ramirez. Well the Pirates seem to know how to run an organization now so they wont get trades like those anymore. They gave up a lot to get Garza (still a good trade except they werent ready to compete so it might have been flawed in that regard) but dont have a ton of pieces to do that again. If they get Prince that helps but you still have holes all over that lineup and their franchise players Castro still has work to do to be a star. Epstein is a good baseball guy and the Cubs payroll allows him to miss on guys but a lot of what made Boston so good was homegrown guys like Pedroia, Ellsbury, Youkalis, Buccholz and others. Or guys they traded top prospects for like Beckett, Gonzalez, etc.
  5. Theo has inherited a much bigger mess than he did in Boston. Castro is one of the only young hitters they have on that team. Colvin looked lost this year. Barney is okay. Soto has regressed a lot. 1B, 3B, LF are all old. Byrd is a solid player. The pitching staff is a mess after Garza. I dont know if there is a single other starter on that team that I would feel really comfortable with going into next year. It will be interesting to see if he can turn it around. You know he will make a splash this off-season but there is not much out there for pitching and there will be competition for the big bats. Hopefully he has another Carl Crawford, Lackey, Dice-K or JD Drew type signing. Boston has a lot of home-grown talent on their team or guys they traded very good prospects for. The Cubs dont have a ton of top end prospects. Their big guns Vitters and Jay Jackson had horrible years along with first pick from 2 years ago Hayden Simpson. They have a couple nice players but would have to package a lot of guys to net at top end start or bat.
  6. This is what has been frustrating about this board all year. The negativity has been high all year. Heck down 3 in the first game people said the game was over. I am not sure why people have been so negative. We are 1-1 in the NLCS and you would think we were down 3-0. We played a terrible game but we had two bad ones in Arizona and still one. I love how Carpenter has become unhittable now. We won 2 games with Ian Kennedy starting in the last series and he was better than Carp all year. Carp also was really bad in game one of the first round. He could pitch a gem but look at how Verlander has pitched so far. He has been hit fairly well. We have some guys hitting really well in Braun, Fielder and Hairston. I dont get the doom and gloom. It actually embarrasses me as a Brewer fan
  7. Jackson has looked really hittable so far, but we need to take advantage
  8. He hit two hard balls yesterday and drew a walk. He looked good yesterday
  9. That was nice Marcum. How about a few more innings like that
  10. I dont understand how a warning takes away the inside corner. You dont have to hit a guy to hit the inside corner. I actually think warning the Cards was justified. They had intentionally hit our guys earlier this year and there is a lot of bad blood between the teams. I fully believe the Fielder beaning was intentional and I will never believe anything LaRussa says otherwise
  11. Exactly! BA actually brought that up in an interview with the JS. Here are two quotes from it that make the Cards fans look like babies. I dont remember the Philly fans complaining in 2008 (maybe they did but I dont remember it). And bringing up the Bucks is a great example as well. I bet they weren't complaining then either.
  12. Umm Tony they took away the ability to pitch inside for the Brewers as well. Considering they took they at away from the Brewers when the Brewers didnt even hit a batter, I think the Brewers have way more reason to complain
  13. Oh man, this post pretty much guarantees it will happen! Haha, well now it changes.
  14. Get this guy K-Rod, then they need 2 runners in the 9th just to get to Pujols
  15. I would technically say Braun has lead the way with 4 RBI's but our whole lineup has been huge
  16. Completely agree. I am not sure if he has ever had a 3 up 3 down inning
  17. Ok one batter not the end of the world. Just get a DP ball and all is forgotten!
