  1. Will this all take place for this coming draft? It says only players who were with a team for a full year will return compensation. Does that mean Type A and B guys who were traded during this year wont return compensation. Will this change what the Brewers will get this coming draft for Prince and others?
  2. Agreed. Unfortunately, neither Greinke or Marcum are great. As they're getting lit up next year we can all remind ourselves they are getting money that could have gone to Prince. Yeah because when we had Prince but no Greinke or Marcum we were making the NLCS really consistently. Pitching wins in this league.
  3. I am all in for extending Greinke. I actually think Marcum will come a little cheaper now so I am good with him for the right price. But I dont want to extend Axford. I dont like putting a ton of money into closers. When does he actually become a free agent?
  4. I have never really thought we had a great chance to land Reyes but I do think he fits well on our team. Even if he declines as a player I think he will be easier to move than other players. Heck, how long did Tejada have a job for even after it was clear he wasnt a SS anymore. We may have to eat a little salary, but I think we are fairly protected if he declines like that. Even in his off years his OPS was good enough for top 6 in SS this year and .100 points higher than Yuni. How is he as a fielder? I dont know a ton about him there. Does he project as being able to stay at SS long-term? Heck if Yuni still gets to play SS, Reyes has to be able to right? We get a real leadoff man and all the sudden our first 4 or 5 in the order are set. Get a couple of the bullpen arms back and figure out what is going to happen at 1st and 3rd. I say let Green and Gamel be the guys. The improvement of Reyes from Yuni and Green over how horrible Casey was should cover the drop from Prince to Gamel. Sign Hairston as a super-utility guy. I would be happy with that team going forward
  5. From what I read he is not a permanent replacement by an interim, on a year to year basis. It is an interesting move. That team is pretty ugly right now. Very little starting pitching or relief pitching. They are talking like they want to improve at SS, 3B, and 2B. They have huge question marks at 1B, and C. They have an opening in the OF as it looks like Cuddyer is gone and they dont seem interested in Kubel. Their minor league system is pretty bad outside a couple players. Terry Ryan is great GM but boy does he have his work cut out for him. Apparently, people here in Minnesota think it is a permanent hire and not interim. Not sure why the club would call it interim if it wasnt though.
  6. That he'll be one in a long line of terrible fielders who have won a gold glove. Of the three listed, he would be third but voters will remember Holliday's miscue last year and Parra can't hit like the other two soI expect Braun to get it at this point.. The NL as a whole has pretty terrible LFers outside of Parra and other players who are pretty good like Prado only play there part time. He is not a terrible defender. He may have been but he is not anymore. With the MVP talk most scouts/analysts said he was average to above average. They said Fielder was terrible though. They actually said defense and base-running were the biggest edges Braun had over Fielder. You think he is terrible and that is your call but there are plenty here on this board that would say he is average to better. I will agree that he didnt deserve the Gold Glove but disagree that he is a terrible fielder
  7. There are a couple posters on this board who are convinced Braun is a terrible fielder so I would love to see their reaction if he wins.
  8. 2 runs on 0 hits this inning
  9. Everyone of those pitches was a strike on Gameday. That last one looked really good, but I am not watching live
  10. The way Tony goes to his bullpen I am shocked he hit Carpenter there
  11. I'd still be happier if it was the Brewers and not the Cards. For sure. As great as the World Series has been I have struggled to watch much of it. What I have watched has been entertaining in a gut wrenching way
  12. I would say the playoffs have been really entertaining but overall the defense and pitching have been pretty underwhelming. The hitting has been pretty incredible
  13. Man think of how many runs the Cards could score if they didnt hit into so many double plays
  14. look how you catch a ball going to the wall Nelson
  15. If it was injured enough to make him field like that Washington should be fired for not putting a defensive replacement for him
  16. This is pretty much my opinion as well; I mainly despise the hypocrisy. The hypocrisy drives me crazy. Braun should be able to show excitement for giving a division championship to his team, but if he called out another player for doing the same thing that is where I would get annoyed with him. I agree with posters here that say Prince stares them down more. Part of it might have to do with his huge swing sometimes he is too off-balance to start running and he just can watch the ball
  17. I missed the play and watched it today. That is one of the worst plays I have seen considering time of the game, magnitude of the play, lack of hustle shown, lack of proper positioning shown, and lack of field awareness shown. I still dont know how Cruz missed that badly
  18. Out of sheer curiosity, who have you warmed up to?I would love to know the answer to this as well. What Brewer players do you like logan?
  19. Not to mention it would probably be an increase offensively at 3B and SS. Now Gamel to Fielder will more than likely be a significant drop but if we keep Hairston and get another infield sub we could be in good shape. I am hoping we look in to the trade market for SS. I think we could do better than Barmes.
  20. I guess I dont see a ton of guys who overachieved on this team. The only really way of saying they overachieved is that they didnt sustain big pitching injuries - although I would argue Greinke's injury cost him a good 1/4 of a season since he didnt get spring training really. Where did we overachieve? LF - Braun is just that good. Maybe he could regress a bit CF - I could see this although having to play Morgan against lefties because Gomez got hurt, hurt us a lot RF - Maybe a little but not much 3B- Definitely not. This was a huge under-achieving spot SS - Nope 2B - Not with Weeks injury 1B - Nope C - Nope SP - Wolf yes, maybe Narveson but no one else overachieved BP - Lots of injuries and guys did what they were supposed. Axford may regress a bit and we are not sure who we lose Bench - No one overachieved here. This team can stay close to maintaining 90 win potential without huge name acquisitions. 3B and SS will be huge improvements if we get average players.
  21. We don't know this. Yes, it's possible and probable, but it could just as easily blow up in our faces. I'm pretty sure 99% of us at this time last year said something to the effect of, "Casey will be great at 3B this year, the numbers show it." We all know how that turned out. Yes and Mat Gamel could end up with a higher WAR than Prince next year. Nothing is a guarantee but the probability is very high Hairston/Green would be better than Casey's .626 OPS. It wont take much to improve that.
  22. We may be a .500 team if you take away Fielder, but not if you take away Fielder and use some of that money to upgrade SS. SS was bad enough this year a ton of cash is not needed to upgrade. The drop from Prince to say Gamel and the upgrade from Yuni to a middle of the road SS would not drop us from a 90+ win team to a .500 team. Not to mention a full year of Hairston/Green would be a huge upgrade over what Casey gave us. There are cheap ways to improve this team and compensate for the loss of Prince. 1. Upgrade SS - shouldnt be super hard and I was not one the Yuni-bashers this year. 2. Sign Hairston. Go with Green and Hairston at 3B. They will easily upgrade Casey's numbers 3. Platoon Gomez and Morgan or find another CF. These can be done via trades - we could trade a starting pitcher for a SS or CF. We have Peralta and Fiers and even Estrada as good depth. They can be done using Prince's money. Losing Prince does not = this is a .500 team at best. They still will have talent they just need to become more balanced offensively and better defensively. Our pitching will improve by losing one of the worst fielding SS, 1B and a bottom tier 3B. Average fielding at each of those positions would be huge
  23. The Sox asked for Garza first and there were rumors Cubs number one prospect Brett Jackson was rumored (since denied) to be a part of the deal. Sounds like this is going to take a quality player or prospect from an already weak team.
  24. Come on the series has gone 6 games. Losing in 6 games is like losing two 3-game series. I think that qualifies as getting your butt kicked. So the only way to not get your butt-kicked is to lost in 7 or win. That makes sense. Love this board but the constant bashing of the team, manager, etc is too much tonight. Enjoy the rest of the game guys. Hope to see you next game
