  1. Yo's biggest issue usually is pitch count but with 65 pitches through 5 he is in great shape.
  2. Gallardo is dominant right now. Get a run or two with the heart of the order coming up right now and we are in great shape
  3. The mlbtv view isnt the best but boy did that last pitch look like a strike.
  4. Our approach has been really good so far. Lets see if Yuni can take some pitches too
  5. I also like Hairston before Yuni in the order. I would have to guess Hairston is better with the glove than Casey so our defense gets a little better too.
  6. Any chance this means the team goes in a different direction with some of its aging stars this off-season? Ortiz is a FA and he wants a long-term deal. I wonder if they could open up the bank for Prince after a horrible end to a season like they had. We all know Prince really isnt a 1B. That would be one way to get the fan base excited again. Prince, Pedroia, Gonzalez, Ellsbury After how they got burned the last couple signings with Lackey and Crawford I doubt they would do it, but I would be all for it since that would me a 1st rounder and a sandwich pick.
  7. I understand how some can say the quality of your team shouldnt factor into the decision but it always does. It does with every MVP award. The Heisman, NBA, NFL, etc all look at your team accomplishments because to almost everyone putting up numbers on a team that is winning is more impressive than putting up numbers on a bad team. Right or wrong that is how it is. If MVP was simply a WAR-based decision lets just get rid of the voting and give it to the guy with with highest WAR. Kemp is very deserving but Braun is leading the stat that matters more to me than HR and RBI. He lead the entire league in OPS and did it on a contending team. If Kemp was far and away better than Braun I would say give it to him, but he wasnt.
  8. While some of your premise is correct the idea that neither team has a good chance at winning a national title is wrong. If Wisconsin wins this game they will be favorites in every game for the rest of the year. It would be hard for an undefeated Big 10 team to not be in the National Title. Back to the topic at hand, I cant believe they dont know this yet. I have family coming to visit this weekend and I already told them we had to plan around the Badger game and now I am telling them another part of Saturday too.
  9. Braun's OPS is now 1.001 and his Slugging is above .600
  10. I know very little about defense stats and which ones really seem to matter, so I was wondering if someone could show where Braun sits statistically as an NL LF. He seems to be middle of the pack in range factor and zone rating. He is at the top of Fielding Percentage but that stat doesn't seem to matter a lot.
  11. I am pretty sure the Braves are the worst team in the NL against lefties so Wolf will probably get a start.
  12. Well we need to stay one up on them to get home field because they won the season series. So, with 5 to play and 1 game lead right now is the magic number 5? I am pretty sure any combination of 5 wins by us or losses by the D-Backs and we win it. I could be wrong though
  13. What's crazy is had it not been for Braun's injury there would be two guys in serious running for Triple Crown. While home run numbers are down there have been some very good years by hitters in the NL
  14. This debate is actually simple. If valuable is at all tied to your team winning games then Braun wins it. If it is just about who is having the better statistical season then Kemp wins it. I have no issue if either guy wins it. They are both deserving and both will get a good amount of first-place votes. This is reminding me of Heisman Trophy debates when a guy from not a great team puts up insane numbers but doesnt win because the number 1 or 2 ranked team has a really solid player as well. In the end it is one of these two and I can see the debates for either one. I want it to be a Brewer but Kemp is very deserving. Kemp is batting .600 over the past week and could end up winning the batting title.
  15. I didnt mean to short change Marcum or Wolf at all. If you want to see my thoughts on Marcum go to the transactions rumors/proposals thread where a lot of people talk about Marcum being a middle of the rotation kind of guy. I view Marcum as right there with Gallardo and Greinke and Wolf a step behind. Strikeouts do have something to do with it when I think of dominating in the post-season. With our defense I think a strikeout guy is even more valuable. I was focusing on second half of the year and Gallardo has a WHIP of 1.03 and Greinke has a WHIP 1.08 (Marcum 1.15, Wolf 1.2) which are all very good but when you factor in that Greinke and Gallardo are also striking a guy out per inning that seems like more sustainable dominance. They are letting less guys on base while having much fewer balls put in play. I actually said Marcum and Wolf have been solid down the stretch as well. I love our top 4, but I think Wolf's ERA is a little misleading but I would never say he is a Jeff Suppan. I think is a solid number 3 but I would have him behind the other 3 for sure. No knock on him because he has been huge for us this year. Heck other years he may have been our best pitcher. I probably didnt give Marcum the love he fully deserves because his last two starts were stuck in my head. So, I apologize to Shaun if I short-changed him.
  16. It is also refreshing to have guys pitching well down the stretch. The last time we made it it felt like CC was the only one winning games. Right now we have two guys pitching great, 2 guys pitching really well/or at least well and a solid number 5. Greinke and Gallardo have the stuff to go up there against the best 1-2 out there in Halladay and Lee. Sure Halladay and Lee are better but the gap is not a large as it once was. I like our rotation against anyone other than the Phils to be honest. I like our chances against Kennedy and Hudson from the Dbacks if we throw Greinke and Gallardo out there. Not to mention we follow with Marcum who has to be the best number 3 not named Cole Hamels.
  17. As we get closer to clinching a spot in the playoffs it is apparent our top two pitchers are looking more and more like the Aces we hoped they would be. Since the All-star break Gallardo and Greinke are tied for first in the NL in K's and are 3rd (Yo) and 11th (Greinke) in WHIP. They are near the top in most defensive independent stats as well. I dont know the best stats these days for pitchers but what I do know is our top 2 strike a lot of guys out and keep guys off base. That is pretty important for pitching. Marcum has been solid as well as Wolf but I like our top two and how they are pitching right now.
  18. That is crazy. In that small amount of time he is a 3.5 win improvement? That is impressive and depressing at the same time. I wonder what Taylor Green would be?
  19. This is nitpicky as well but Lawrie would not have had that 150 games. Even if you bring him up when Toronto was going to before he got hurt in early July you definitely dont get a 150 games. He wasnt going to win the job over Casey in Spring Training and we had our own 3B prospect raking in the minors that took us a while to callup
  20. Lawrie's glove is still a big question mark. Scouts are split if he can stay at 3B. However his bat should play anywhere. He move valuable as a 3B, but depending whether he is more like August or September determines his overall worth. He is young and his power could continue to improve but he definitely cooled off after his hot start. His OPS in Sept while still respectable is .839. His walks are still solid and I am sure he will be fine going forward. The trade has been made and Marcum has really helped us. We have no idea if Lawrie is going to be Ryan Braun (MVP caliber), Corey Hart (All-star candidate) or Jay Bruce (loads of potential but just solid) or one of the many guys who just havent lived up to the hype.
