  1. Well Braun, Fielder, Weeks and Hart really help those numbers. Braun - #1 LF Fielder - #2 1B Hart - #6 RF - a little lower than I would have thought Weeks - #1 2B Morgan - #6 CF Lucroy - middle of the pack for catchers but hard to gauge because other guys split time more Yuni and Casey are the only guys below the middle of the pack but they are definitely hurting us
  2. The Cards series with Philly is huge. They miss Lee so that is a boost for them. However, even splitting the series means they probably have to close 8-1 to have a good shot at the division. If they go even 9-4 down the stretch the Brewers only have to go 4-8 to win the division. That with 6 games at home against Florida and Houston. If they take those two series, St Louis could go 9-4 and we could sweep in the other two series and still win the division. Now I want home-field in the first round and we are tied with Arizona for that so we need to find a way to start winning some games. We miss Cueto and Dempster for the next two series. We do get Garza. But we should be able to win a couple against Arroyo, Volquez, Willis, Coleman, and Wells. Now we havent put up a lot of runs against poor pitchers lately so there are no guarantees.
  3. I like honesty but if he wasnt asked directly I see no reason to go there. Even if he was I see no reason to say it right now. But, he has earned the right to say whatever he wants
  4. You are right the HOF talk was hyperbole. There was at least one person in this thread saying he will for sure be an all-star. What denial is there? Almost everyone has said he is a very good player but some here are acting the like the Marcum trade was a big mistake (not you) because of how Lawrie has started. Just like people were saying the same thing when Odorizzi was dominating and Greinke was struggling. Odorizzi cooled down and Greinke looked better. I think it less denial and more restraint. I dont want to come off like I think Lawrie is going to be a bust. I think he is going to be a very solid player. However, reading this makes me feel the same way the Greinke trade threads did in May. I am not going to regret trading Lawrie until he keeps this up for a couple years.
  5. I didnt say he was a bum did I? I said his numbers are coming back to where he will likely end up which is still very good. I also never said an ops of only .936 I said a BA of only .268. I was just pointing out that as he spent more time in the majors his numbers have decreased some, even though they are still very good.
  6. Lawrie has been scuffling a bit lately. He actually got pulled from today's game (not sure if it was injury looks to be performance). He had 2 errors and is 2 for his last 17. Small sample (his whole MLB career is thought) but teams could be figuring him out a bit. His OPS is still unreal for a rook but his BA is not close to falling under .300 and he has only hit .268 in Sept with an OPS of .936. He will probably be a stud but lets acknowledge some things that may show he shouldnt be ushered right into the hall of fame and lets give MLB pitcher time to figure him out if they can
  7. Some of the guys over Gateway are calling him injury prone and ripping him a bit. Others are defending him. Pretty standard stuff
  8. What a great at bat! Fouled off some tough pitches to get the home run! MVP is right
  9. He reported later than others as a guy fighting for a spot. Right or wrong that shows something to coaches. He also showed up over weight.
  10. Even if you dont like that Don Money made the comments to the media you have to acknowledge that Mat has some professionalism issues. Whether it is showing up overweight, showing up late, or any of the other things Gamel has had issues. There are some people on this board who are so convinced Mat is a star in the making anytime something doesnt go the way it should for him they blame Melvin, the big league manager, or Money. Well maybe Mat isnt the innocent victim he is often portrayed as being. I am guessing not calling him up is hoped to be a wake up call. I want Mat to succeed and I want him to be our first basemen next year, but I also want him to put all the work in that is expected. The quotes and other clippings I have read make me wonder if that is happening right now. The guy can hit, but lots of guys hit in AAA but struggle in the bigs because they dont put in the extra work. Only a few guys have the talent to just come up and hit. Look at Braun. The guy is a great hitter but he also has an amazing work ethic. That is what it takes to be great
  11. That might be ideal but it also really impractical. Randy Wolf got 3 years 30 million. Wolf was 4 years older and had one good year in the past 3. Marcum is coming off three very good years. That is worth a lot more than 2 million more per year. I really dont understand why people are so down on Marcum. I know he doesnt strike a ton of people out but he is actually in the top 25 in the NL in K/9. He was a very good pitcher in the AL East and has been even better with the Brewers.
  12. Shaun Marcum's WAR is better than Yo's this year. He is actually 18th in the NL WAR. He is 11th in ERA, 6th in WHIP, and as not huge strikeout guy he is 23rd in K/9. That is the best middle of the rotation guy I have ever seen.
  13. Come on. Hart has been good. Morgan has been good. Lucroy is solid. Green has been good since being called up. Most offenses struggle when their two best hitters are not producing. Although tonight Prince has been on twice and had another hard hit and Braun has been on once
  14. Greinke could pitch a complete game and get the loss tonight. He has given up some hits but 8 base runners in 7 innings isnt bad
  15. You are right but this is a pretty uneventful game http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  16. So....who would YOU rather have playing SS for the Milwaukee Brewers between the two? Your answer was cloudy. I would have rather had Furcal but he really hasnt been good since the Cardinals got him. Actually outside of playing the Brewers he has been awful at the plate, but he has to be a better fielder so I would rather have him
  17. Surprised they pitched to Prince there. Needed a big hit from Prince there. Not sure how many chances we are going to get
  18. You say that as though we wouldn't be better off with Furcal than our current SS. Care to expound? Because you can put me in the category of thinking we needed to get him. 14 of Furcals 30 hits as a Cardinal have come against the Brewers. We should have gotten him just for when he is playing us because outside of that he has been pretty bad. His OBP is under .300 as a Cardinal. Yuni's numbers have been fairly similar over the same time, but Furcal has to be better on defense.
  19. In 7 of games Marcum went 6 plus and gave up 2 runs the team was 2-5. That to say he has 7 games with any offense they win but instead took the team lost 5 of 7. Two of the other games the team lost are when he got hurt and could only pitch 1 and 3 innings. In games he didnt have to get pulled for injury the team was 15-12. If they win even 4 of those 7 really good starts the team who have been 17-10 in his starts. He is more a product of poor run support in really good starts than anything else.
  20. Do you have the numbers or have they been posted somewhere? I feel like he has been good but a lot people here trash him any chance they can get
  21. At worst a sandwich pick and a third round pick. That is all the Jays got for AJ. We got screwed a bit on CC but the Jays got screwed worse on AJ.Your right. That was horrible. Still think baseball needs to change how they do comp picks. The best would be closer to how football does. Your picks are determined on the quality of who gave up not the team that signed them. It is stupid to have it connected to the team that picks your guy. Just use the the Elias rankings and then slot the teams with the picks that lost the guys. So the team who lost the best FA gets the highest available pick and the team with the second best FA gets the second highest pick and have it go down from there if that makes sense.
  22. It is not just picks but it also a full year of Marcum and picks. At worst a sandwich pick and a second round pick. It is not the best option but it could help with the farm system
  23. The Brewers are in a great position with Marcum. All three options are good 1. Keep him and extend him. I am not nearly as worried about him being bad at the end of a 4 or 5 year deal. He knows how to pitch and he doesnt have a ton of innings on his arm. 2. Keep him, have him be the part of a really solid rotation next year and get two really good picks in the draft 3. Trade him and get solid value since teams always need pitching and he is coming off a great year. I would be shocked if we got something better than what we gave up since Lawrie is really good, but we should get a good player or prospects for him. I would love to keep him and look at an extension but only after Greinke.
