  1. Lawrie has been a beast. Looks like a solid trade for both sides. In Marcum's last 5 starts he has went 34 2/3 innings giving up just 4 ER, 20 H, 10 BB
  2. I know it isnt much but he did start 4 of 5 games this year and he went 3 for 17 during that stretch. Gamel's issue is where do you play him in the field. Over a 13 game span he got 26 at bats but struck out more times than he got a hit. He is not an everyday guy until Fielder leaves because Braun and Hart are better in the OF and Gamel is a terrible fielder If you called up Gamel where would you play?
  3. I agree about Hart. He was probably the guy that stood out to me the most. That and Prince's number being fairly average for a 1B in the NL and Morgan and Lucroy struggling that much. Against the Cards we saw what happens when out pitching struggles. The offense needs to straighten this out.
  4. It may not be a fleecing but it was a great pick up for what we gave up. Two guys middling prospects for an 8th inning guy who has done a solid job
  5. And considering our current number 4 pitcher cost 10 million a year, Fiers would be a huge help in allowing us to lock up other pitchers long term. If we can have Fiers and Peralta as low cost back end of the rotation pitchers that would free up some of money to sign Greinke and Marcum. His numbers dont seem like your typical AAAA pitcher. He never gives up hits or walks. He strikes guys out effectively and it isnt like he FB is in the mid 80's all the time
  6. Because Maldanado never put up an OPS above .684 before this year. Lucroy's lowest OPS for a season was .767 but was frequently .800 or higher. Their bats were never comparable until this year and really only the second half of this year.
  7. I dont know how some cant believe Fiers is a legitimate prospect. 9 IP, 3H, 1BB, 9K, and 0 ER. Man he is good
  8. I am trying to figure out if this is supposed to be in blue. It was stupid for Braun to try and steal third or at least get caught off second with Casey up, but stealing 2nd with Prince was great. Prince just didnt come through with a hit.
  9. I dont think you can have a must win when you are up 9.5 games with 26 to play
  10. Francis is pitching for a KC and has only given up 1 hit. Great pitching so far
  11. Lucroy has not been the greatest since the All-Star break. He has the second lowest OPS (.686) on the team behind only Morgan. I am a big fan of Lucroy but has not been that great lately
  12. I thought it would be interesting to see how Brewer players are doing since the Break. I am just going to use OPS and where they rank amongst people with 50 at-bats in the NL at their position C - Lucroy - Ranked 15th. He has struggled since the break with an OPS of just .686. His power and walks have both regressed 1B - Prince - Ranked 7th with an OPS of .882 2B - Weeks - Ranked 10th with .721 (but a very small sample size), Lopez was second to last SS - Yuni - Ranked 6th with .734. That one really hot stretch helped a lot 3B Casey - Ranked 8th at .783. Super Sub - Hairston - has an OPS of .760 which would be 4th at SS LF - Braun - Ranked one with OPS of 1.079 (4th in all the NL) CF - Morgan - Ranked 13th with .681. RF - Hart - Ranked 4th with an OPS of .916 SP - ERA is the best I could guess and went with a 40 IP minimum Greinke - 6th - 2.35 Gallardo - 9th - 2.59 Wolf - 12th - 2.77 Marcum - 22 - 3.38 If I go to a 20 IP minimum Estrada - 23 - ERA 2.84 Narveson - 29 - ERA 3.06 Axford is actually 2nd for guys with over 20 IP with an ERA of 1.27 It really goes to show how our pitching staff has carried us. Only 3 hitters with an OPS above .783 and with that Fielder has only been okay by his standards. I rotation does not have one pitcher with an ERA above 3.38 which is crazy
  13. Well that just seems to be the eye-ball test. I am not sure if there are any stats to back it up but it does seem like they dont hit a ton against guys making their first start. It gets talked about a lot on this board as well, but maybe it is one of those things that gets talked about a lot but has no statistical backing
  14. How do I know Dickson is starting or that we struggle in game like that? Here is the link to GatewayRedbirds and their fans talking about an article from the local St. Louis Paper saying Dickson is starting Thursday. From the article itself
  15. Hardy struggled in large part because, following nearly a year off after a shoulder injury, he was promoted to Milwaukee with barely any AAA time. I get what you're tying to say, but it's not quite the same situation. For Green and Hardy's career paths to mirror each other, Geen would have needed to be in Milwaukee last year while still not over his wrist surgery. I agree. I was just pointing out that Hardy was much closer to Green's stature of a player than Weeks, Fielder and Braun.
  16. Green is nowhere near as accomplished of prospect as Fielder, Weeks, or Braun. Those guys were top prospects. Green is solid but Hardy is probably a better example. Escobar got the job in part because we was a good prospect and in part because Hardy was starting to cost more money. These scenarios are far different than Taylor Green and Casey. I dont think any of those were in the midst of a playoff race either. Hardy might be the closest comparison and he really struggled when first brought up. In saying all that I hope Green gets a start soon.
  17. 21-5 so far today. Two games to play What an incredible month so far! Baldkins prediction is looking pretty big game
  18. Anything but getting swept is fine for the Brewers in the long run. If we go 1-2 we are up 9 1/2 with 24 to play. If we win 2 of 3 we are up 11 1/2 with 24 to play which would be hard to lose. The pitching match-ups look pretty good Jackson vs Marcum Westbrook vs Wolf Dickson vs Gallardo Dickson is making his first big league start and I know we usually struggle in those games but I like that he is going against Yo. We hit Jackson and Westbrook fairly well the last couple times we have faced them.
  19. Zack's ERA back under 4. Another very quality start and hopefully he finishes it off well
  20. Is Zack done for the day? 99 pitches and batting second this inning. However Ron may want to try to give the bullpen a break
  21. With the way Hart is swinging in the leadoff spot right now there is zero reason to move him. Weeks can be the number 5 guy.
  22. Over his last 8 games Hart is slugging over .800! Once Weeks gets back our first 5 spots are going to be really tough.
  23. Lets bust this thing wide open Prince Edit - Ugh. Big missed opportunity there
