  1. Congrats to Cruz but the fact that he got in before Shin-Soo Choo is odd to say the least. Home runs is the only stat Cruz is beating Choo in. Choo has an OPS .40 points higher and an OBP .80 higher. Juan Riveria, Michael Cuddyer and Johnny Damon have had better years than Cruz, but it is good to see a first timer get it.

  3. I agree with what you were saying about the whole trade but a little off-topic. Wells contract is terrible but is it as bad as Sorianos? Soriano is already 33 and declining and he is under contract through 2014. That is a terrible contract as well. I would say they are about the same.
  4. Geovany Soto is heading to the 15 day DL with a strained left oblique. This blog from the Daily Herald says that Lou said Soto could be out up to a month. People were talking about how the Cubs could be prone to a lot of injuries this coming season and those predictions and coming true. edit - Sportscenter reported the thought Soto could be out a month as well.
  5. Jermaine Dye please. I would love to see him batting behind Fielder.I would love Dye in the Brewers lineup but I think it would be hard for the White Sox to trade them with how well they are doing.
  6. If they are asking for our three best prospects and then one of if not our best pitching prospects count me out and count the Brewers out. You cannot give up 4 prospects that valuable for a year and a half of a pitcher. I doubt any team is willing to give up their 3 best prospects and another very high ceiling guy for Halladay. We would be giving up BA number 19,34, and 81 ranked prospects along with a guy who could be a top 100 guy if he stays healthy this year and is stretched out a little more. The reality is the other teams you mentioned do not have (according BA's rankings) the top end guys we do, so why would we offer so much. The Yankees do not have that many quality prospects, the Mets top prospect is rated 30 and then the next best is in the 47, so they are pretty close. The Dodgers only have 2 prospects in the top 100 and the first is in the 40's. The Phillies have 4 guys in the 45-75 range. The Angels only have one top 100 prospect. The Red Sox could package something with their young talent but I am sure the Jays would up their price for a team in the division.
  7. I would actually say on this board it is pretty split on Salome or Lucroy. Lucroy actually jumped ahead of Salome on the power 50 this board puts out. Lucroy is the better defender of the two by a wide margin. His hitting numbers this year are down but he has a horrendous BAbip and has walked more than he has struck out this year. I would rather have the Brewers trade Salome, because his defense has been seriously questioned by his own manager in AAA and he does not have a position outside of catcher as he is listed at 5'7.. Although I really do not want to use him to get another infielder because I think with Gamel, Weeks (next year), Hardy, Escobar, McGehee, and Counsell, this year and next we are in good shape. We need starting pitching and I think Salome could be the number two guy in a trade for that, or maybe packaged with Hardy to get something pretty darn good this off season.
  8. Matt Gamel is waving at you from the end of the bench.I should have mentioned Gamel, and I do view him as a really good hitter but I feel like what we are seeing with the Brewers right now is two great hitters are not enough with Braun and Fielder so I just dont see Braun and Gamel being enough. Our other top position player prospects either do not seem to be impact bats - Escobar or are a ways away - Lawrie. Guys like Green, Lucroy, Salome, Gindl, Cain could all be nice players as well but with Hart showing his major flaws, Hardy more than likely gone, and Cameron gone by then the team will need bats so it will be hard to trade Prince. I did forget about Weeks who was that 3rd bat before he went down this year. I would actually like to trade him to get a young pitcher who may not be a stud but projects as a 2 or 3 and a 1B prospect.
  9. I have always been in the trade Prince for pitching some time a year before he is a FA camp, but right now I think I may have changed my mind. I would at least keep him until his final season and see if we are in contention that year. Right now we just do not have the hitters to surround Braun with in order to trade Prince. When we had LaPorta waiting in the minors then I thought there was a chance he could be the guy but now, I just do not see us having enough impact bats.
  10. I know in the Eau Claire area i know the local parks and recreation office has discount tickets and grocery stores (Festival Foods, Copps, maybe more) do as well. I am not sure if it will be the same in Madison but I would assume they might.
  11. Gameday made it look like he got squeezed on a couple pitches in that walk too. Ball 1 and Ball 3 looked better actually than strike one did. Great game by Parra.
  12. Why not ride the hot streak while it is going? Cam has been hitting better lately so if McGehee starts to cool down then you can just move Cam back there.
  13. Gameday had that strike three to Rasmus well outside. Was it a bad call?
  14. Are you serious? McGehee has been hitting 5th a lot lately and although it is a small sample size in 43 PA he has an OPS of 1.031. He is our best protection for Prince right now.
  15. McGehee trying to help us all see how Manny handles adversity. McGehee has made 6 errors already this year.
  16. Is Gamel out of the running since he is in the majors because he tore up AAA before he left. Outside of those two only Lawrie really has a shot to be ranked high and his numbers though very solid are not top 50 material yet.
  17. 5 pitches all for strikes and 3 outs. No nibbling for Manny in the first. I am happy to see that but I will temper my enthusiasm until he pitches well when guys get on base because that is a weakness for him
  18. A Cardinals fan talking about the Brewers as whiners no if that is not the pot calling the kettle black. If the Brewers or their fans whine about a strike zone (which every fan base does by the way) at least they are whining about something actually related to the game and not something as ridiculous as the Brewers untucking their jerseys
  19. Another chance with the bases loaded. Lets hope Fielder gets it done here. Prince has had some huge hits this year so lets hope he continues
  20. Are the Blue Jays asking too much for Halladay? I was looking at what the Twins got for Johan Santana for just 1/2 less of a season and Escobar, Lawrie and a couple other prospects seems like a haul compared to Gomez, Humber, Mulvey and Guerra. Is the big difference the fact that Johan was going to have to sign a big contract with the team that got him? The comparison from Johan to Halladay makes sense in that they both are elite pitchers but I must be missing something as to why the Twins received only one top notch prospect and two decent (but not that great) pitching prospects for the best pitcher in the game.
  21. This is spot on. Unlike fans who all too often come down overly hard on a struggling players, good management looks at past success and reasons why a player will turn it around. Hardy is a guy who as JohnBriggs pointed out hit 50 home runs the last two years and would seem to have a nice stroke for the monster. He is in his own head right now, but teams would jump all over him if he was available. A package of Hardy and Salome should net a nice pitcher and it is a trade we will more than likely need to make this off-season.
  22. Hardy has been as big of bust as Hall if you take into account the expectations for both coming into the year, but Hardy is still having a much better year than Hall (that shows how bad Hall has been if some one playing as poorly as JJ is much better.) Hardy's OPS is .80 higher than Hall's and in 100 more at bats has struck out less than Hall. That said JJ is having a terrible start to the year and needs a couple days off right now. Counsell can play short and put Gamel at 3B it is pretty simple to do.
  23. I am defending Melvin because people seem to find it easy in hindsight to throw out names we should have gotten and I am pointing out why it simply is not as easy as some people have seemed to make it. I think both Bush and Parra could have been expected to be 3's. Parra and Bush had a better ERA last year than Milwood and Vazquez and cost us no prospects to keep. Who are those 2/3 types you are talking about? If Morrow was availble to us and Melvin did not go after him then I am disappointed in that because he is the kind of guy we need to go after. Not guys getting over 10 million a year who are coming off bad years like Milwood. I have said in this thread Vazquez made sense but I would have like to know the cost. I wanted Peavy all off-season and would like to know if we had a real shot at him because people kept saying all winter we did not. Hypothetical "we could have done this" or "we should have traded for this guy" ideas do not shed light on the what really happened during the off-season. We have no clue who was available. The perfect scenerio would have been trading Hardy for pitching, but I am not sure what the options were. It is easy to say we should have made certain trades no when Millwood and Vazquez are pitching well, but if we would have given up a top prospect like Flowers (who is ranked 3rd now in the White Sox system and was 5th in a loaded braves system) I am not sure how happy I would have been at the time.
  24. He's improving as of late while Looper is inconsistent. I would've taken Penny over Looper.Penny was coming off a year in which he started just 16 games. Looper has been inconsistent but their overall numbers are pretty much equal. However, saying you would rather have Penny than Looper is your opinion and I agree for the most part. Yet, at the beginning of this year at equal money I would have probably wanted Looper because he could log a lot of innings and with our rotation concerns a guy like Penny coming off an injury would have a been a risk. A risk that is not really worth it when their overall numbers so far this year have been so similar.
