  1. Yelich's OPS is now 100 points higher than Baez. His WAR is 1 point higher. He is now tied in home runs and stolen bases. He strikes a good amount less and walks way more and gets caught stealing less. All Baez has offensively on him is 5 RBIs which is crazy considering yelich has played 13 less games. There is no talk about it but Yelich is just 5 RBIs and 2 home runs from the triple crown. He is MVP no doubt
  2. Davies had about as unlucky of a first inning as possible. He has settled in nicely
  3. We don't have to worry about the Cardinals not having something to play for. Knocking the Cubs out of first place would be a way to salvage some of the season for them. There is serious hate there
  4. I have been on the bandwagon from the start. I didnt know he would be this special though. I felt like in the first half he was just about ready to breakout. His at bats were almost always great. Even if he didnt get a hit he worked the count and made solid contact. Honestly I feel like the home run at the All-star game was big for him. The biggest moment for me is when the Brewers played the Nationals in late July and Bryce Harper who was struggling came over to Yelich to rub him for good luck. I figured if one of the best hitters in the game was recognizing the talent of Yelich he was even better than I thought.
  5. I dont see a ton of people downplaying Baez. It is just that numbers seem to show Yelich is ahead of him. Yelich is simply better almost across the board in offensive stats.
  6. I am sure so many of these voters have valued defense in previous years I get Baez is a better at defense but if you going to start valuing defense that much than Cain should be MVP over all of them. Baez is better at defense but right now Yelich is well ahead on the offensive end and overall has a better WAR. The arguments for Baez are becoming lesser by the day
  7. Another plus for the Brewers is the Cubs have Mike Montgomery pitching twice in the last 6 games. His numbers look ok but only because they pull him early a lot. That could overwork an already bad bullpen. Split the next two with the Cards and the division will likely be up for grabs - at least share of it. Win the next two and the pressure is definitely on the Cubs.
  8. Lester maybe Kendricks or Hamels
  9. Because I love steak but I dont want to eat it every night. Honestly it could just be my stage of life but with two kids and one who just started school baseball is awesome in the summer but once school starts up it is hard to follow. My personality is I want to follow as closely as possible but it is hard for this long
  10. I know it is frowned upon by the purists but I would be all for shortening the season. Also you could have the first wild card be three games instead of one. Baseball is a really long season. I know a lot of people who say they wish it was shorter. This board is a very skewed sample because it is the people who love baseball enough to go to a message board to talk about it. I would assume this board to be against shortening the season
  11. Yelich has Báez at least matched on #4. Maybe their personalities are different, but if watching Yelich isn't flat-out exciting, then I don't know how to baseball anymore. While I completely agree Baez gets publicity for his excitement. There are numerous articles out there about him being the most exciting player and for his celebrations. It shouldnt matter but neither should him being from a big market team but I think both might. I am about as big of Yelich fan as you can find and think he should win because right now outside of Baez being able to play SS he really doesnt have much over Yelich - similar home runs and stolen bases. Only really RBIs but Yelich has been batting 1 or 2 a lot of the year so that makes sense. The fact that Yelich is leading the league in BA and OPS is crazy
  12. With the Carpenter slipping a lot and the Dbacks looking like they will miss the playoffs I get the feeling it is Yelich vs Baez. Yelich has a better offensive profile. Baez plays a more premium position. Should be interesting.
  13. [sarcasm]This is where you are wrong. If we don't settle this issue, who will? And then what?... and then what?[/sarcasm] How could I be so foolish? I really should spent more time thinking through that first post!
  14. You forget Baez has a few things going for him. Some legitimate some not 1. He is doing it as an infielder who plays multiple positions. 2. He has a very slight lead in WAR, home runs and RBIs 3. He plays for Chicago 4. He is exciting to watch I dont think 3 or 4 should matter but they will. Really number 2 is a wash almost. Especially when you factor in yelich's commanding lead in ops and all those stats. 1 is legitimate but I think Yelich has covered a ton of ground. In mind it would hard not to give it to the guy who leads in batting average and ops if that happens.
  15. Man there is a lot of debate for my word choice here. Guess I could have worded them differently. My main point is that the overall best best isn't the always the guy the team absolutely had to have. Could be because they were incredibly thin at another spot. Probably should have done it with different wording. Who is the MVP, who is the cy young, who is the one guy this team couldn't have done without. That last might be what most valuable used to mean but it sure isn't today. For a team that has a terrible bullpen a star reliever could be the guy they just could not do.without. our if they have injuries up and down the rotation than a starter who pitches well and racks up a bunch of innings could be that guy. You can disagree. You can make mip most improved. I don't care. This is just for fun
  16. I found it crazy that the most cycles in a career is 3. Yelich is almost there in a season. There have only been three this season. Betts has the other. Hey how about both league MVPs having the cycles. Also the Marlin's have never had a cycle
  17. It seems like he is top 10 in the nl in every offensive stat. To be top in batting average and slugging is impressive.
  18. Fine by me but I think it is easy to see the difference. MVP as I described it is simply the best player. Most important would be the one who had the most important to have on the team. I don't always think that is the best player but could be a guy who we would be lost without. Chacin and Jeffrey's wouldn't be the best players on the team but I shudder to think where we would be without them.
  19. It has been a really fun year but with the talk of Cain and Yelich for league MVP I was wondering who people thought was the team MVP, Cy Young and then the team MIP - most important player. I think these could be the same our different depending on your criteria. MVP usually just means the best player on the team. That seems to probably be a two horse race with Cain and Yelich. Team Cy Young could be really interesting. I would guess it is between Hader and Jeffress. Chacin just isnt quite top end enough but I do think an argument could be made for him as Most Important Player. There was a part of the season where it felt like the rotation would have imploded without Chacin. Miley too but he missed a chunk of the year. Here is how I would go MVP - Yelich - his line has just been really really good. I am surprised defensive metrics are down on him because outside of his arm I think he is a good OF defender when I have watched. Cy Young - Jeffress - Hader has been great but Jeffress can go out almost every day and with Knebel's struggles I hate to think where we have been. MIP - Cain. I almost put Chacin here. I think Cain's presence plays a huge role on the team and he is really stinking good too.
  20. Yeah, that was high quality January baseball reading right there. Hot takes just flying. Obviously there were people who loved the deal, and people who hated it. Hopefully those who hated it, or were extremely upset by the prospects we gave up, have come around. Yelich truly has proven to be a special player. I cant imagine anyone disliking the deal now. Look at this way. We could (but definitely wont) trade Yelich this offseason and get a much better return than what we gave up and we would have had a year of Yelich. It seems like DS and his staff knew which players to sell high on in this deal. Yelich has been so much fun to watch. We are looking at a guy who should have a batting average above .300, hit 30 hrs and steal 20 bases while sporting .380 plus obp. That isnt a very common stat line. I think Baez will win MVP but Yelich will be right there. Crazy to even try to pick between he and Cain right now
  21. Feels like he might be lucky to go 4 at this rate
