  1. Because the Mets likely won't give up matz or others. They are not stupid they know how hard it is to develop young pitching
  2. Mets people seem to think Wheeler and Flores for Gomez is too steep. Most here seem to want quite a bit more
  3. That man can change his mind quickly...I mean what is his definition of a rebuild to him? Trade Parra and a mid tier FA signing? I thought they were looking to part with Gomez this deadline, but now reports are that they are asking for the moon. While that isnt unheard of before the deadline only to come down I really wonder what the plan is here. I guess we will know in a couple of days What is Melvin thinking asking the moon for a relatively cheap and extremely talented cf? The Brewers hand is not forced to deal guys right now. They have them under control and can deal them in the winter like Gallardo.
  4. Of course. I just wanted to counter some of the comments I have seen. I have seen one person call him a possible ace, many consider him a top 3 prospect, and outside of this forum many are calling him a future all star. I think much like Fiers people need to maybe not get those kind of aspirations. A lot of people want to connect his draft scouting report to these successes and he is nothing like that Jungmann anymore. Good point on the groundballs, that is no fluke. If he can locate his pitches that sinker plus his height is going to create a lot of ground balls. Big part of his success. I know some people don't get excited about mid rotation guys, but that is one less $10mil annual contract and another possible Garza/Wolf/Suppan avoided. One guy would called him a potential ace was jonathan lucroy.
  5. People want to trade mcw because he can't shoot from 3, from 2 or from the line for a pg. He also has a poor assist to turnover ratio at less than 2 to 1. If he is that good at attacking the rim he should shoot better than 43 percent from 2. That is no good. I wish the Bucks could find a way to get Ty Lawson. Better shooter in every aspect, better passer, and less turnover prone. He is on the block and would give the Bucks quite the rotation
  6. Kostas has potential but to consider him even close to a 5 star is ridiculous. They seem to be basing it on his bloodlines but not all on production. Take a look at his stats in both high school and aau and explains to me how is much more than a huge gamble right now.
  7. I agree with not wanting a Jungmann type and the 3 guys you mentioned really are intriguing. I think you are a little harsh on Medeiros. The kid just turned 18 and his control doesnt seem as bad you make it out to be. He had terrible back to back games with control - 8 walks and 2 k's in 5 innings. In the other 28 innings he has 10 walks and 39 k's. In those two terrible starts he gave up 9 hits in those 5 innings. He has given up just 19 hits in the other 28. I think it could be chalked two bad outings but I understand he had control issues before. I guess I like his upside a lot more than you.
  8. I am guessing you are a marquette fan. Do you remember what Davidson had to do so Marquette had a chance to win. I honestly don't think the Badgers are that lucky. Harrison draining a 3 last year didn't feel lucky. I love posts that start with congrats to seem nice but then turn out to be something totally different. The Badgers seemed to get a nice draw outside of Arizona as the two seed. I woul have taken any other 2 seed or Villanova over Arizona in the bracket. But you should expect a tough team if you make the Elite Eight
  9. Reports are UW already reached out to him. UW recruited him heavily the first go around and he was just in Madison for the Duke-UW game. He spoke about how much he liked the atmosphere and that he wanted to go to a team that he would be in the NCAA tourney with. I would guess both UW and Marquette are up there as potential landing spots
  10. Not as deep for sure, but Okafor and Towns are at the level of a Parker. Also interesting that Looney could be a top 5 pick. But yea, they need to just keep playing hard and wherever they end up, they end up. It will be interesting to see. Right now Okafor, Mudiay and Towns are a very good top 3. Add in guys like McCullough, Turner, Johnson, Harrell, Looney and Winslow I dont think this is a bad draft at all. That is a pretty solid top 9 and there are other guys who will make the lottery. I am not even sure they not as deep rap is going to be correct. Not sure those guys are really behind Nick Stauskus and Noah Vonleh
  11. It isnt just back pockets though. It is front pockets as well. That is what is strange. If you put your phone in your back pocket that is on you. If you put in your front pocket and it bends that is a poor design
  12. If you wear somewhat tight jeans you might want to steer clear from the iphone 6 as it is actually bending in people's front pocket! There are some pretty sweet pictures out there. I am sure it will get fixed quickly. I have a phone the same size as the 6 and put it in my front pocket and I never even thought of this as a possibility. Apple is all over the news this week. Crazy high sales. IOS update causing headaches. Now their phones are bending. All that really matters is the first one though.
  13. No doubt Apple computers seem to last longer and they should at the price difference but I must be in the minority because my wife and I have had 3 different laptops. One last 5 plus year. One is going on 3 and the other 2 with no noticeable slow down. All three were a fraction of the price of an Apple computer. At work I have a team of 9 and 2 have Apple computers and both have had big issues. One is only 3 years old and is pretty much dead. She even got a virus on it. My main point is Apple computers are great but definitely not without flaws and for many getting a cheaper computer works just fine. I have had a google nexus 7 for a few years but once I got a smart phone I just dont use it much. I have a bigger smartphone so that might be part of the reason. I loved it before I got a smartphone
  14. It is funny to see how different people's experiences are. I like to observe what type of technology people are using. I work on the college campus and rarely see people using tablets to do real work. I would say under 10% of those doing work are using tablets. Many people I know who have tablets simply use it at night when watching tv and even a few of those use their phone instead. I see quite a few more people using chromebooks over tablets for real work as well. Also was surprised this summer as I was on a trip with 80 plus college students and the phone breakdown wasnt quite what i was expecting. It was probably 50% iphone, 40% galaxy and 10% was a random mix of cheaper phones. Apple is loved by many and they make really good products. I have played around with the iphone and dont really like it. I might like the 6 more because I couldnt stand the smaller size. On the laptop end of things I just dont do enough on my computer to justify the cost difference. My last laptop cost half the price and lasted 5 plus years. My current one is on year 3 and going strong. If I did video, graphic design, etc I would look at it but it just isnt a need. Also I dont like the double standard Apple fans have. Any time Samsung or someone else "copies" something Apple does or if another company like Microsoft struggles rolling out an update Apple fans are up in arms. However, when Apple "copies" something from another company they get a pass or if the have a roll out like they are having with IOS 8 you cant say a word about it. Apple has advanced technology quite a bit but they are not without flaw and the recent roll out of IOS 8 and even following other companies into the bigger phones it shows they are not always perfect and ahead of the curve
  15. I dont think Stone to UW is likely but they seem like they are in the top 3 with UConn and Kentucky. Right now the recruiting site 247sports have their predictions up and UW is right there with those two. UConn seems like the leader and Kentucky who was once thought to be the leader is losing momentum. It is hard to imagine Ellenson not going to Marquette with them being in his top 3 and them giving his brother a scholarship
  16. The Cubs have a ton of young talent and that cannot be debated. They probably will be very good in the next few years but some of the cant miss prospects will miss. I really dont see Baez becoming a star. He will hit a lot of home runs but he wont walk much and he will strike out a ton. After a quick start he is now batting under .200 and his OBP is .226. He has struck out almost have his at bats. 41 K's and just 4 BB's. However they dont need all of them to become a star
  17. Every once in a while I check in to see how some of the former brewer farmhands are doing in the majors. After a terrible April Jake Odorizzi has been very good. He still doesnt go deep in games. Just 5 starts over 6 IP. This was an issue sometimes in the minors as well but I am guessing it gets figured out. Michael Brantley simply put is exceeding even the highest expectations for him. His OPS is nearing .900! Alcides Escobar still doesnt a have a plus bat. But with his fielding prowess is sub .700 OPS isnt as big of a deal. Effective stealing bases as well. only count 3 times in 27 attempts Brett Lawrie continues to be the biggest disappointment in my mind. He has now missed 1/3 of the games since being traded do to various injuries. And outside of a hot start to his career his bat really hasnt been good. Just a .722 OPS this year and .748 for his career.
  18. Braun is .687 not .787 since the break
  19. Looks like the Wolves are flipping Bennett and others for Thaddeus Young. That doesnt make a ton of sense to me as Young has a decent sized contract and isnt a super young talent or anything. Maybe the Wolves dont think that much of Bennett's summer league showing
  20. Not sure I agree that the TWolves robbed the Cavs. In an NBA trade I would have to guess the teams that get the star ending up winning the trade more often than not. Just look at a previous TWolves trade of a star. They traded a much older Kevin Garnett and came away with Al Jefferson, Gerald Green who was considered a promising young player, Sebastain Telfair, Ryan Gomes and then two first round picks - one at 6 and one later. So they got a very promising, established young player in Jefferson and high first round pick, a later first round pick, a 21 year old in Green who averaged 16.5 ppg his first two season, and then other pieces in Gomes and Telfair. All for a guy who didnt want to be on their team anymore but they still were big time losers in this trade. Compare that to this trade. The future first round pick isnt very valuable unless it isnt Cleveland's actual pick since that pick will like be in the late 20's. Bennett is a first overall pick in name only. He got lucky to be in a terrible draft littered with top 10 guys who have been disappointments. Bennett would have been lucky to be a top 6 pick this year even before everyone saw his deficiencies last season. 2013 may go down as the worst draft in the last 20 years. Wiggins obviously has tremendous upside and he is a good get for Minnesota but the other two pieces seems much more likely to bust than boom. It is a solid trade for the TWolves but also a very good trade for Cleveland
  21. I don't think Super 2 is a consideration at all. I don't believe (may be wrong) that September call-up time counts against that clock for arbitration purposes. Even if so, that threshold has long past. Toolivebrew and Crew07 both make it sound like Super 2 is a consideration and that he wont be past Super 2 until mid July or something like that Here is the thread - viewtopic.php?f=63&t=31421&start=120
  22. Nelson goes 7 innings giving up no runs, 4 hits, and 2 BB with 4 k's. I cannot wait until he is past his super 2 status
  23. It sounds like the Brewers are still trying to acquire slot values. BA has a piece on it today which explains the whole process pretty well. http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/brewers-acquiring-international-slot-values/
  24. I would have Bryant number 1 but I wouldnt have Baez still in the top 10. I am sure it is because he is still really young for his league but his first half has been very unimpressive. He is striking out nearly 1 out of every 3 at bats with not many walks. His OPS is only .758. I am sure I am probably over valuing a half of season but his strike out numbers are crazy
