  1. If they get a 3 seed why wouldnt they be in Milwaukee? We are the highest rated team in the midwest and they look at geography. I read a few days back it seems like UW, Iowa, MSU, Michigan, and maybe Creighton were fighting for Milwaukee
  2. Yeah a dominant big man might be bad news given UW's lack of depth in the front court. Maybe Evan Anderson's hero moment? Haha. If Anderson plays in an NCAA game we are either in big trouble or have our backups in because we are up big
  3. I agree. None of the top teams seem great this year. Ashley getting hurt was a big blow to Arizona and MSU cant get healthy and even when they were they were struggling to put teams away. Cuse is not a great team and could easily end up losing 4 straight after being undefeated. Kansas is the scariest team to me. I want no part in them unless it is in the Final Four. Lunardi has Wisconsin up to 8 on his S curve so that would put them at a 2 seed. SDSU getting crushed by New Mexico drops them quite a bit. Kansas would be a fun matchup for UW. The two things KU doesn't do really well is defend the three ball and let the opponent get to the line - two things UW normally excels at on offense. What scares me about Kansas is Embiid. His size and athleticism could be a nightmare.
  4. No mater how RPI is used it bodes very well for the Badgers. Their RPI is good and the teams they have played have very good RPI numbers. Lunardi is usually pretty accurate and with the MSU loss they jump to 7th overall for him. The only teams behind that have a decent case are Nova and Creighton but I dont think both will be ahead of the Badgers. As for the place in conference, I dont think it is going to be a huge factor. They committee repeatedly says what you do in non-conference really matters and that is good news for the Badgers. MSU just picked up its 6th loss and Michigan has 7. I think there is a very good chance Wisconsin ends up tied with MSU. MSU still has to play Iowa and at OSU. They could easily lose one of those. Now UW could easily lose a game but they should be favored in all of them. The Badgers hold the tie breaker over Iowa and MSU so barring a late season collapse I think a top 3 finish is very likely. I think a 3 to 4 seed matters because it changes how early you see a one seed. Now that might not matter as much this year because I dont think the ones are substantially better than the twos. I agree this team could do damage. I think Brust needs to find his shot for that to happen but watching this team with Frank and Sam producing is a lot of fun
  5. 6. Kenpom isnt used by the committee. RPI is their computer ranking of choice. Kenpom may be better but it is mostly irrelevant in tourney seeding discussion. There is zero way the Badgers are lower than a 4 seed right now. They are much closer to a 2 than 5 and probably closer to a 2 than a 4. Louisville has no reason to be ahead of the Badgers. They are 1-3 against the RPI top 25 and just 4-4 against the top 50. The Badgers are 6-2 and 8-3. Louisville has an RPI of 35 going into today. The same for Virginia. 1-3 and 3-3 against the RPI top 25 and 50. Head to head loss to Wisconsin. RPI of 17 compared to 5. They dont have as bad of losses but that does not make up for UNC being their big win, followed by Pitt than SMU. That is nothing compared to Florida, MSU, Iowa twice, Michigan, St Louis, and Virginia Zona, Cuse, Florida, Wichita State, Duke, and Kansas are the only teams for sure ahead of Wisconsin. SDSU probably is but their computer numbers are not good at all. MSU all depends on how much the committee factors in injuries but their resume does not compare well with UW. Nova and Creighton are right there. So I think the Badgers are a solid 3 who has a strong case for a 2. If only they would have had a key injury during the losing streak to blame it on
  7. Wisconsin is currently a 3 seed in both Lunardi and Palm's bracket. Their RPI is #5 in the country. If they win today they will be pushing for a 2 seed. I am hoping Wisconsin can be a 3 seed. Their resume is outstanding. If the win today, which I dont expect, they would have road or neutral court wins over Michigan, St. Louis, Virginia, St. John's, UW-GB, West Virginia, and Iowa. That would be a very nice resume.
  8. Huge game for Marquette tonight as they host Creighton. Marquette is playing better and this is a chance for their first really good win. They have wins against bubble teams but that is about it.
  9. I dont know how the committee could really discredit wins. I think they can give Florida and MSU the benefit of the doubt when it comes to their seeds but it is hard to take something away from the team that actually won the game. I think you are hard pressed to find many teams with more quality wins than the Badgers especially road and neutral site games. They have beaten 5 top 20 teams and numerous other potential tournament teams. Losses to Indiana and Northwestern will hurt though Home - MSU, Florida, Iowa Road - Virginia and even UWGB is a nice win Neutral - St. Louis, St. Johns.
  10. Badgers pick up another win. They followed the hockey teams lead by beating Minnesota. The Badgers are now 20-5 overall and 7-5 in conference. They have two very tough games coming up at Michigan and at Iowa. If they can split those two they are in good shape to finish top 3 or 4 in the conference and in line to get a nice seed. Their tourney resume is very good
  11. Nice game for the Badgers. They need Brust to find his shooting touch. He is 13 for his last 50 from three!
  12. Probably a million more than I would have wanted but other than that it is always nice to have bullpen arms.
  13. Are the Red Sox getting guys late who they signed way over slot? I dont follow the draft to know how much that still happens but I know there were teams that were able to draft late and still get big names because they could offer big deals. Does that still happen? Now the Brewers drafting has still been poor just wondering on the Red Sox
  14. UW-GB is good but best team in the state is a huge stretch. This is a team that got rolled by a 14-10 Valpo team and struggled mightily against a terrible UIC team. Cleveland is really the only other decent Horizon League team this year. I like UW-GB but if UW or Marquette were in that conference they would have great conference records as well
  15. Garza got almost an identical deal to Ricky Nolasco. I would much rather have Garza. What are other people's thoughts?
  16. Not sure how it doesnt make us a lot better. Is it enough to help us make the playoffs? I dont know but it definitely makes us better. A rotation of Gallardo (look at the 2nd half production), Lohse, Garza, Peralta, and Estrada if very formidable. The even bigger perk is the depth we have if one of those guys goes down. Having Thornburg, Nelson and others waiting is very nice. Thornburg could even give us depth in the bullpen. It gives Hellweg more time to try to figure it out in AAA. We lack a true ace but we have 4 guys who could be 2/3 type guys which is pretty solid. Estrada is a good 5th starter. Our lineup has a couple wholes at 1B and 2B but I like where we are at on the other spots. I dont know the roster well enough to know how I feel about our bullpen
  17. The Badgers defense is terrible right now.
  18. Nice win for Marquette. It will be interesting to see how much time Taylor and Dawson get going forward
  19. Badgers defense is terrible right now. Marquette's offense is horrible. The two Wisconsin teams are struggling. Luckily Wisconsin built up a nice buffer
  20. I still think Marquette could make it but you made the distinction right there between UW last year and Marquette. UW was 14-7. Marquette is 10-7. That have to win 4 more in a row just to get to that record. The other distinction is UW played in a conference with top seeds like Michigan, Indiana, OSU, and MSU which gave them a lot of chances for quality wins. Marquette probably has 2 games left with teams of that quality, maybe 3 with Creighton. Butler and Georgetown are bubble teams right now so those wins don't help a ton. Marquette needs a high quality win or two and they dont have a ton of chances. They need to win those games. From what I have read Taylor's redshirt possibility is now gone. I didnt think post season counted. I am probably wrong though
  21. I dont think the committee is impressed by no bad losses. 20-13 will not be enough for Marquette with that RPI and no quality wins. There have been other schools that got in with a record like that but they were from true power conferences. That is most definitely not the case with the Big East this year. Right now they have one team that would be a 5-seed or better.
  22. Marquette could be a .500 team shortly. They host Seton Hall, and then travel to Georgetown and Butler and then host Villanova. 2-2 on the stretch would be impressive for Marquette right now. They definitely wont be favored in the last 3.
  23. Next year could be great at UW. I think Koenig and Hayes are only scratching the surface of how good they can be. Losing Brust will be tough. He is having a very good year and he can really shoot. But they will have another roster with a bunch of guys who can score.
  24. In their last 3 quarters of basketball the Badgers have scored 146 points! That is coming against 2 ranked opponents who are actually rated pretty well by defensive metrics. The ball moment on this team is phenomenal. All 5 starters can score and the first 3 off the bench are very good as well. I have been impressed with the defensive improvement as well. They do a great job getting teams to settle for contested jumpers or tough shots in the paint. They just need to clean up the defensive rebounding.
  25. Fran did throw a fit but it was in part because all the momentum was with Wisconsin already. The Badgers had outscored Iowa 15 to 6 the first 8 minutes of the second half and Hayes was at the line to have a chance to make it more. The momentum changed when the Badgers figured out how to grab rebounds, make free throws and hit open threes
