  1. Well Arcia is hitting better than those two so far this year. Where does Escobar's offensive season rank along with all-time worst seasons for an everyday position player. Found this list https://www.google.com/amp/www.sportingnews.com/amp/mlb/list/worst-hitters-21st-century-omar-infante-brad-ausmus-juan-uribe-neifi-perez-alcides-escobar-billy-hamilton/dcsdtr2iv6zx1mk8bvb4jeogn Escobar made this for a different season
  2. It is crazy that they are doing this with very little help from braun and Villar much of the season. Braun was solid when healthy but has missed so much time and Villar has been unproductive and hurt. Without those two and even Guerra missing a lot of time this team is up 2.5 at father's day! That is incredible. The Cubs may bounce back but right now the Brewers are simply playing better
  3. Not to diminish what the twins and reds did but you really should be top 5 if you pick 1 or 2 and also have a supplemental pick. That is a lot of top end picks and the pool money to acquire them.
  4. No one is saying he was the centerpiece but you stated the Brewers didn't think much of him which is inaccurate. Hader wasn't a great comparison but Santana probably is. Santana was the 3rd or 4th piece in that deal. Well behind even Hader to most. Shaw and Santana had both spent a little time at the mlb level and some thought they projected more as backup guys. The Brewers thought enough of both and have been proven right by both. I am not arguing against what you are currently saying. It it what you said at first which was completely off base and you tried act like it wasn't what you said. Enough of the debate though. Here is to Thornburg getting healthy and the Brewers pieces all continuing to improve
  5. Haha actually I didn't assume anything so calm down. First off nothing in that interview said they thought highly of him. It mentions a few things they liked about him. I remember earlier on it was mentioned the Brewers actually didn't even bring up Travis Shaw in trade talks it was the Boston Red Sox. It was also mentioned Travis Shaw wasn't the main piece in the deal it was Mauricio Dubon. I am sure the Brewers liked him, but I don't think the Brewers could have ever imagined a guy on his way to a 3 WAR season. Sounded more like maybe he could be a starter if given the chance, but probably a versatile bench bat. Then maybe you shouldn't have said the Brewers didn't think Shaw was much of anything. That is a ridiculous statement with no factual basis. The fact he wasn't the centerpiece means nothing. Hader and Santana weren't the centerpiece of the Gomez deal apparently. They are still pretty important parts. Cordell and Ortiz weren't the main piece of the Lucroy deal but they seem like solid prospects as well. Saying the Brewers didn't think he would be a 3 war player and that they didn't think he would be much of anything are so far apart it is laughable
  6. Yah this trade really wasn't that bad for the Red Sox at face value. Dubon was a solid prospect on the rise it seemed, Pennington was an injured pitcher, Coca is unknown/years away, and Shaw wasn't considered much of anything. Heck even the Brewers didn't think much of Shaw when they took him. Give this trade some time and I doubt it looks like such highway robbery. Travis Shaw regresses and Thornburg returns to a close to elite reliever it will be a pretty fair trade. I won't be sad if the Brewers make this type of trade down the line to bring in a legit reliever. Of course I hope that hypothetical guy doesn't get injured right away blaming what we do in spring training did it to him. How do you know the Brewers didn't think much of Shaw? Was that reported somewhere? I easily could have missed it Thorn burg was close to elite one season. So was that season the norm or an outlier. Relievers are nutoriously hit or miss so it is just as likely thorn burg becomes an average reliever as he becomes close to elite.
  7. Braun can't ask to be traded because no one wants him at his contract. Braun also had signed a huge contract unlike lucroy. Braun has also been suspended for a bad decision which lead him to be very hard to move and saying he didn't want to be a part of the rebuild would be terrible pr move. Braun should be committed to Milwaukee after what he put the franchise through and the contract the team gave him. The team has been very committed to him. I love Braun but it is hard for me to compare the two
  8. Wow the bitterness toward Luc here is ridiculous. The guy shouldn't have said what he did in the interview but even though he wasn't happy to be part of a rebus it never affected his play on the field. It is so weird to me this fan base has forgiven braun but are bitter with lucroy. Every fan here has said this team needs to rebuild and the players knew that. For s competitor that isn't exciting. Yet he honored his contract and played well. He gave the Brewers way more value than the contract he signed. Also if people here were with a company that was struggling would it be enticing to you to go to a different company that was doing well? I am guessing the answer is yes. And thank you to everyone who shot down the "it is overdone" insanity about the full page add.
  9. Jurado would make sense to be the list. Sickens had him as the 6th best prospect in the Rangers system to start the year. Here are his thoughts. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/2/8/10943266/texas-rangers-top-20-prospects-for-2016 6) Ariel Jurado, RHP, Grade B: Age 20, posted 2.45 ERA with 95/12 K/BB in 99 innings in Low-A with 3.13 GO/AO ratio, Panamanian right-hander with 90-95 sinker, good curveball, change-up coming along nicely, excellent command and control for his age (or any age really), excellent statistics. Not ranked this highly on other lists but I really like this guy and I think he can be a real stalwart if he avoids injury. Thus, the higher-than-consensus grade and ranking. Preseason lists had Jurado ahead of Mendez quite often. And outside of pipeline most post trade lists I have found have them right next to each other. I think people are too quick to take Mendez off the list because he is a top 100 prospect and guys like Jurado, Ibanez, Taveras and Guzman are not. It could easily be the case that the Brewers like on of that group close to Mendez. The difference between prospect number 80 and 125 is often in the eye of the beholder
  10. He's at 1.05 GO/AO. In other words, for every 105 ground ball outs he gets, he gets 100 outs in the air. That's not a lot at all. That makes his success all the more insane. He doesn't strike a lot guys out, he doesn't keep the ball on the ground, and doesn't give up many runs at all.
  11. Coulter finally got out in biloxi
  12. Lucroy made one ill-advised but incredibly truthful and understandable comment. I have no idea why he gets the angst he does from some here. He played gard for the team and played under an incredibly reasonable contract. He said he wanted to win and didn't want to be on a rebuilding team for the next two years. He shouldn't have said that out loud but it is was true and any competitor would want to play for a winner
  13. I thought I had read that Gallo was out because of the rules. Obviously if he was a potential piece then the list includes him and Mendez and everything about this being a prospect on par with the other two makes sense. I do think there is a possibility the staff doesn't love Mendez as much as this board so he is closer to Guzman or Taveras so they want to look. If Rosenthal is right and that it is a high level prospect than I can see two lists Gallo or Mendez if we are wrong and Gallo is actually able to be traded. The pause would make sense too because the staff wants to scout Gallo's swing more. Still doesn't seem likely since people have said he wasn't available. Or Mendez, Taveras, or Guzman. Maybe the staff is bullish on one the the last two guys. Both are young with solid upside so they wanted to make sure they got it right. I think this prospect is going to be better than many are thinking.
  14. Rosenthal and Tom H have now both said the same thing. Now we know bc of rules it can't be Gallo right? So that leaves Mendez, Ibanez, Taveras, and Guzman as the next group from the mlb pipeline rankings. Is there any of the 3 after Mendez you could see the Brewers liking close Mendez? Taveras is toolsy and very young. Guzman is also young and just got promoted to AAA with Mendez. He would become the best 1st base prospect in the Brewers system. I am wondering if it is those three. Maybe the brewers don't see a huge difference between Mendez, Taveras and Guzman. Maybe they saw something in Mendez they wanted to look at more.
  15. 1. Arcia 2. Brinson 3. Hader 4. Ortiz 5. Bickford 6. Diaz 7. Ray 8. Clark 9. Philips 10. Erceg 11. Diplan 12. Woodruff 13. Ponce 14. Lara 15. Kirby 16. Peralta 17. Gatewood 18. Nottingham 19. Burnes 20. Medeiros 21. Suter 22. Wang 23. Lopez 24. Demi 25. Harrison
  16. This is the quote that has people thinking the player could be good. Another top prospect implies a good player
  17. I wonder how long until the potential names start to leak. Top prospect seems quite descriptive. Who would fit that bill that isn't Gallo? Mendez or Ibanez?
  18. That new top 25 is awesome to read. This farm system is heading in the right direction.
  19. As someone said Ray should be in there. And am i the only one who thinks Diaz, Diplan, Peralta and Woodruff could be ahead of a few on that list
  20. Scouts and rankings people love gallo. This board not so much. We will see who is right
  21. Shocking. That is because Stearns is smart
  22. I get the worries on gallo but what if the brewers scouts think that they can cut down his ks? It isnt like the brewers havent scouted
  23. Are they demanding a pitcher in addition to Lucroy to get gallo? Or as part of a much bigger deal?
