  1. As I look at the Brewers system I am really excited about our pitching. The scouting department deserves so praise for finding guys like Nelson and Thornburg to fit with guys like Peralta, Jungmann, and Bradley. There are other exciting arms too with Lopez, Bucci, Scarpetta, Rogers (one can dream), etc However what seems to be lack in the system is impact bats. We pick 27,28 and 38 so we have a great chance to get some quality bats. My questions is who are some of the bats that could be there around the time we pick? I know there is another thread entitled is it too early to talk about the draft but I am just looking for some bats to keep an eye on. I would love to grab 2 bats with those 3 picks
  2. If we can add some impact bats in the draft I think our system will make a huge jump in the rankings. Our pitching is gaining respect. Peralta got some high rankings in the off-season. Jungmann and Bradley are well respected. Thornburg is starting to get some love. They had a little blurb about him over at BA. Nelson will start to get more attention if he keeps this up. In my mind we could have 5 top 100 pitchers by the end of the year with other guys like Lopez, Bucci, Golforth, Scarpetta and Fiers who could make a jump (but not to top 100 range). Our bats have some interesting players like Kentrail, Scooter, and Morris (just learn how to take a pitch). They also have some guys in AAA who look like they could be solid MLB players like Green, Schafer, and Gindl. If we could land impact bats with two of the first round picks our system would look really good rolling into next year. Not many of the guys are going to be called up this year and thus lose their prospect status so I think we could make a big jump in the rankings
  3. I think he has the potential to be a Derek Lee type hitter. Maybe not quite the 2003-2005 version but a guy who averages mid-20s for HR and bats .270 to .280. I would be happy with that
  4. A week in and Nelson and Thornburg have increased my optimism. Reports and results on both have been outstanding. Thornburg is touching mid to upper 90's and missing a lot of bats. Nelson is touching mid-90s with a ton of sink. He is missing bats and when guys do hit him it is usually on the ground. It is funny because Fiers, Peralta, Jungmann, and Bradley have all been solid or better but right now Thornburg and Nelson have me the most excited.
  5. Jimmy Nelson is making the Brewers scouting department look pretty smart right now. I dont remember anyone who really loved that pick (I could be wrong) and most really disliked the pick. I love the pitching depth of this system right now
  6. What happened? Dont get to see the game? Who hit it hard - Braun?
  7. Didnt John Rocker get suspended a month for his comment which were "free speech." A Wild hockey prospect got suspended 2 games for calling the Foo Fighters a homophobic slur on twitter. There is definitely precedent for this and I think the organization with well within its rights to suspend. I was actually surprised it was only five games
  8. And Bucci. I forgot him in the initial list. Guys like Santo and Wooten are relievers with potential as well Lopez and some of the international players will be fun to watch when rookie ball starts up.
  9. I have not been following the Brewers near as long as many on this board, especially the minors, but when was the last time we had this many young pitchers worth following. It seems like every night we have another young guy who were excited about pitching. The best part is each one has had a good first game! AAA - Peralta, Fiers, Rogers AA - Thornburg, Scarpetta and to a lesser extent Merklinger and Heckathorn A+ - Bradley, Jungmann, Nelson and Hall. This team will be fun A - Not as much here but I am intrigued by Gagnon and to a lesser extent Miller
  10. Just saw the length of time on him. So the Red Sox could be a fit but there is zero indication they have any interest and we will never know what type of player they would be willing to give up even if they are interested. The Brewers should definitely listen but I would doubt this will happen
  11. I dont know why people think there is a lot of teams out there willing to give up much of a prospect for K-Rod. He checked the market for closers and no one really wanted him that much then. Why would they give up a prospect now? The teams with hurt closers are the Reds and Red Sox. The Reds have Marshall to close and they seem happy with that and the Red Sox will get Bailey back in a couple months.
  12. Please share your reasoning for this if you are going to make a statement like this that contradicts things even Greinke himself has said.
  13. Jungmann, Bradley, Hall and Nelson will be a fun rotation to watch. Some nice upside with that group. I dont have much hope for Arnett or this offense.
  14. I hope Bucci is not seriously hurt. This team will be fun to follow with Morris, Scooter and the Davis' at the plate and with Thornburg, heckathorn, Scarpetta, hopefully Bucci and then Santo and Wooten in the pen
  15. "I respect the confidentially of the joint testing program and can't comment." If he gives that answer every time, even Haudricort will stop asking. i really dont think they would. They would ask about public perception. They would ask about if he feels he is being treated unfairly since he was exonerated. Reporters never stop asking because they always want a sound bite.
  16. Serious question. What should Braun say since he is going to be asked about it all the time? He has 3 options but the 3rd might not even be possible for some reason 1. No comment. This won't stop people from asking but it may the best 2. Do what he has been doing. Say there is more to the story but then not share, which just frustrates people 3. Tell the whole story. Not sure if this is possible. It could be part of an agreement so MLB's policy does not look bad, but I doubt that because if it was MLB would not have vehemently opposed the ruling like they did. Or he cannot do it because it would bring suspicion to other Brewer players - the two other tests?. Or there is continuing legal action. Or who knows.
  17. Quotes like this from Braun make me really interested to hear the whole story some day. http://www.sacbee.com/2012/03/31/v-print/4380669/ryan-braun-says-fans-dont-have.html
  18. Because those who had over 300 had a much bigger sample size. I am pretty sure toppers point is that a lot of people have put up numbers like Lawrie's in a shortened first season, but only a handful where All-Stars or HOFers. His list simply proves that people MAY be jumping the gun on the greatness of Lawrie. Now I think Lawrie is going to be very good but that list does show people have had years like Lawrie and fallen off the map or just become mediocre MLB players. My point is that it also cut off a guy like ARod who was under 100 ABs in his first season. Okay throw Arod on there does it really make the list look that much better?

  20. Why are people expecting the Cards to take a step back? Carpenter is out and it sounds like it couple be a while. This is what espn said, " It looks like it'll be a couple of months - minimum - before he's pitching in a regular-season game." Craig is already nicked up. Furcal is never healthy for a full season. Berkman will regress some. Beltran is already battling minor injuries. The lost Pujols. They lost Dotel. They lost Edwin Jackson. They lost LaRussa. They lost Duncan. They have some nice pieces for sure but there are reasons to expect them to fall back.
  21. Yet you have Jackson as elite and he had the benefit of MJ and Kobe. Pops playoff record is so much better than Karl and his team consistently play much better in the regular season. Karl got close on a Sonics team that had Kemp and Payton and a Nuggets team with Melo. It isnt like he was playing short-handed all these years. I respect differing opinions but I think Pop is the most underrated coach in the last couple decades. His team wins titles but he doesnt get lumped in with the elite coaches
  22. I dont think I would put Karl in the class with Popovich. Pop is an extremely underrated coach. Even with aging, declining stars he has his team playing as good as anyone outside of Chicago, Miami, and Oklahoma City. Karl is a consistent playoff guys but not great once he gets there. His teams have lost in the first round 12 out of 20 times. In the second round 4 times, conf finals 3 times and championship once. He had three seasons where he was either fired before his team missed the playoffs or his team missed the playoffs. His playoff winning percentage is 44%. Pop has made the playoffs all but one year (his first). In 14 trips he has lost in the first round 3 times. In the semifinals 5 times. He has lost in the conference finals twice and won 4 championships. His playoff winning percentage is 60% I know Pop might have had better players early on but he continues to win with an old Tim Duncan, a constantly hurt Manu and Parker
  23. Why does everyone use winning as an excuse to discredit anything negative about this team or organization? Well when people act like our GM is way behind other GMs (checkers compared to chess) I think his track record of putting a winner on the field is fairly important. Winning is a lot more tangible than a lot of the "trades" Melvin could have done that are base off internet rumors like some people here use to bash Melvin. I dont think Melvin is a perfect GM by any means but he has done a solid job in Milwaukee.
  24. Apparently they do have a lot of money. Really rich boosters. I agree it makes no sense but Marquette fans at their two main message boards seem to think it is a real possibility because Buzz and they AD dont get along or something like that
