  1. I'm thinking 86-76. I like the team's pitching depth, but there are concerns for me especially of the play of Hart and Gomez. I thought last year was Rickie's breakout year, but I will have to settle for this year. The bullpen's performance should be very good although they have concerned me a bit in ST. I can't wait for the development of Escobar as I see him having a great year.
  2. I really want to see Narveson become one of the five starters. This organization still doesn't have the guts to push Suppan out of the rotation though.
  3. I absolutely love the CC. I don't think the Bernie is that bad either. Disappointed in the Yount, it just seem so bland. The others are fine. Sorry if this was asked, but are there alternates this year?
  4. Cory: You remember your first strikeout? (paraphrasing, talking about Axford's debut and first K) Ueck: Yeah, I remember the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. They were all in the same game! Good old Ueck. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  5. The Bartman one I remember pretty well. Was ESPN stupid to think that a guy covering his face in Wrigley was going to talk to ESPN?
  6. Usually I would agree like getting screwed with a 6 and having to play Pitt in Milwaukee. This year seems different though. We have some huge wins (Purdue, OSU, MSU, and DUKE and even Maryland) The past teams almost never did much outside of the conference, but I think the Duke and Maryland wins will get past those bumps.
  7. It sounds like Skiles wouldn't mind coaching Thomas again. If that's the case, I'm fine with. The division rival thing is overblown. It's about the Eastern conference, not divisions. The Bucks have to improve themselves instead of worrying if that deal makes the other team better which by adding expirings, I don't see how Chicago improves.
  8. I'm not on board with giving up Ersan/pick, but Murphy is an upgrade right now. There's news that the Bulls might be interested in a Salmons/Tyrus Thomas swap for expirings. If the Bulls would that that, I run to the phone and get it done, ASAP.
  9. UW won't get a #3 seed either. Mich St always seems to get bumped up a seed, and UW gets bumped down a seed or two. I also wouldn't be surprised if NC and/or UCONN slip into the tourney. The last thing I'd want to see is if the Badgers fall to a 5 and have to face a Uconn team in the first round. UConn is one of those teams that is very inconsistent, but can beat anyone on any given day. I don't think UNC is going to make it though.
  10. Good thing we don't make sweeping generalizations about the students... OK. Some students. Lets hear your reasoning for why they don't show up for games. I don't know why some don't show up, all I know is that when I go I try to get as close as I can. I think there's way too many students that try to sell the tickets, but those often don't care about actually going (which obviously sucks because it makes the rest of the students look bad). I'm sure this happens at other arenas as well. I wish it didn't, but there's not much I can do about it. I bet if you filled up the other sections starting from the bottom up, you'd probably have empty seats at the top, too, unfortunately.
  11. Good thing we don't make sweeping generalizations about the students...
  12. This is some sad news. I thought he was great for the show. Especially with his kids on deck.
  13. Anybody know if Escobar is a pretty good signer TTM? I'm thinkin' of sending a ball to ST this year.
  14. I don't know about you, but if I signed somewhere else and I didn't listen to the pitching coach there, I don't think that would go over well. He does a good job with "reclamation" projects. For the most part, guys flourish under him only to leave and stink it up somewhere else. There's got to be a reason he has the reputation of a great pitching coach. I don't think it's because he's lucky.
  15. No that isn't true either. They were good for 1 year under Duncan and bad the next season. Jason Marquis 'fixed' by Duncan in 2004 with a 3.71 ERA. Next season 4.13, season after that 6.02. Jeff Suppan had a 4.37 ERA in 2001 in the AL and a 4.19 in 2003 and then went to the cardinals where he had one season with a sub 4 ERA and moved back to the low 4s. Wellemeyer was 'fixed' by Duncan in 2008 and then in 2009 posted a 5.89 ERA. Lohse was 'fixed' b Duncan in 2008 and then 2009 posted a 4.74 ERA which was higher than his career average. All of these fixed by Duncan pitchers had one career year followed by reverting right back to their normal stats. He hasn't really fixed any pitcher long term other than maybe Carpenter. How about Darryl Kile? Posted a 5.84 ERA in two seasons in Colorado and then came to STL and never posted an ERA lower than 3.91 in little more than 2 years. And even Smoltz to a lesser extent. I know that isn't long term, but shaving your ERA in half during the season is pretty impressive and not all because he switched leagues.
  16. If Dave Duncan can't fix you, there's a problem.
  17. Doug, don't even think of trying to mess with my #49 Gallardo jersey. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. I liked most of his tirades if that counts for anything.
  19. Sounds done from Heyman. Full no-trade clause. Link
  20. The problem with Liriano last year was that even though he threw his fastball harder, it was hit real hard. He rebounded well in 2008, but regressed in 2009. I think in terms of 'toast' he will struggle to be effective. Perhaps toast was a poor way to describe him. Here's an article on Liriano and mentions the fastball: 'It's not hard to see what happened to Liriano that caused him to falter so badly: his fastball, which has never been his best pitch, fell from 3.6 runs below average to a shockingly bad 25.6 runs below average despite rising in velocity from an average of 90.9 MPH in 2008 to 91.7 in 2009. Not only did the pitch get worse, he threw it more often, making an already bad situation even worse.' http://bleacherreport.com/articles/317650-a-study-in-patience-francisco-liriano
  21. Well of course the Twins are going to offer arby. They'd be stupid if they didn't. Worst case scenario, he flames out while getting next to nothing. The Twins are exploring all options they have to find a fifth starter. Could he could back and be effective? Sure, but it's far from a sure thing like you imply that he'd be effective. He had a 5.80 ERA last year with a K:BB ratio less than 2:1. I think he improves, but he still has a ways to go to be effective.
  22. I, too, believe Liriano is toast.
  23. I like Morrow, but there's no way I'm trading him for Gamel. We've got to get a guy who is a legit starter (uncertain on Morrow) and has more arby years. Maybe I'm being ignorant, but I really think Gamel has a chance to be very very good. I'd hold out for a better deal.
