  1. Well, we're back in this, but i'm fairly concerned that Yo has given up 10 baserunners already (through 4 innings)... maybe i'm unrealistic in my WHIP expectations, but it would sure be nice for Yo to keep that under 1.20 I think he'd be much more successful getting late into games if he could throw more early count strikes
  2. Something just isn't right. He was lights out in the first half last year, and then imploded in the second half, though his September numbers were decent. I think his major problem is that he wastes WAY too many pitches. I realize strikeout pitchers throw more pitches/AB than pitch to contact pitchers, but that only works for starting pitchers if you don't walk anybody (ala Sheets). Yo needs to get ahead and then finish batters rather than nimbing for 2-3 pitches after getting batters down 0-2
  3. My bad, i didn't see a thread. I remember the original discussion during Friday's game / IGT
  4. http://sports.yahoo.com/m...n-Braun-b?urn=mlb-wp4407 Shows how desperate our media is for news, but i find it hilarious that Braun played along and called the gal (who still hadn't changed her number). I imagine the guys will have a field day with this tomorrow on the FSN broadcast. Another reason to love Ryan Braun. Local fan does something crazy, and he shows he has a sense of humor
  5. I saw that headline on ESPN last night and initially was pretty excited, but after reading the article, it was clear that ESPN was inferring that "Prince wants to re-sign", rather than Prince coming out and saying I want an extension in Milwaukee. In some calculations i figured out last night, we should be able to afford a 6/120 for Greinke AND a 4/56 for Marcum, but adding Prince at $20/per would push our payroll north of $110M. I wonder if he's consider 4/100 with some heavily deferred money? (say 5 per) Prince could then cash in again 4 years from now... then again, he could right now. Puts in perspective how special it is this season to have Gallardo, Greinke, and Marcum PLUS Fielder, Braun, Hart, and Weeks all on the same team
  6. Bravo! I was thinking about that the other night as Braun was off to a tear to start the 2011 season. Glad that this kills any speculation that Braun would get elsewhere later in his career. If we can get something done with Marcum and Greinke, and a few of our prospects pan out in the next 3-5 years, we should be very good for the foreseeable future
  7. DFA Gomez... remind me again why he's in the the lineup. Morgan please!
  8. Can he play shortstop? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. Man, Brewers not on TV again.... when was the last time FSN actually showed the Brewers? I feel like they haven't been on all season...
  10. I disagree with Melvin on the "interesting characters". If ESPN would stop brown-nosing with all the cheats/sleazebags in sports (Tiger, $cam Newton, Manny, Brent, Bonds) there are plenty of good guys (and gals) to cover. Heck, they can even cover our very own Nyger Morgan http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I'll take a 2-1 game over a 10-9 game every day of the week.
  11. I think it must be Carlos Gomez's mission in life to torment teams that I cheer for... I for the life of me can't see anything that he brings to the table to be starting EVER over Morgan right now
  12. I'll go on the record saying that i'd vote "Heck No" on Bonds, Clemens, A-Roid, Manny, Raffy, etc... You cheat, you should be banned for life IMHO Manny is nothing close to the player that Griffey was
  13. Ah, EPIC fail this year http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Usually I get at-least a few people. Though the time-zones screwed me up this year as well. I guess this is what happens when you get old http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I should have gone with the "JJ Hardy traded back to Milwaukee" Manny Parra should be stoked! I think this is the first time I haven't traded him on April Fools Day in 4 years! Glad to be back, and glad BREWERS baseball is back. Game on!
  14. (AP) Milwaukee, WI - Fresh into their first series of a promising the season, Milwaukee Brewers General Manager Doug Melvin tells ESPN that the Brewers are close to locking up standout starting pitcher Zack Greinke to a five year, $80 million dollar extension that will keep Zack with the Brewers through the 2017 season. Greinke, the 2009 AL Cy Young Award winner with the Kansas City Royals has two years and $27 million remaining on a four year deal he signed prior to the 2009 season with Kansas City. The deal, which includes an option for a sixth season, will pay Greinke $15 million dollars during the 2013, 2014, and 2015 seasons and $17.5 million for the 2016 and 2017 seasons. The deal includes a team option for a 6th season at $20 million dollars (buyout at $5 million). Asked to comment on the deal which could reach $100 million dollars over 6 years, Greinke stated "I was very excited about coming to Milwaukee after the off season moves they made to establish the Brewers as a perennial playoff contender. Now that the Brewers have a core of young talent locked up for several years, I've decided that this is where I want to be to win a World Series. $100 million dollars is alot of money for anybody, and I'm very fortunate to be playing a game I love in a city where I feel I can be very comfortable". The Brewers, who opened the season Thursday with maybe the highest expectations since the 1983 squad opened the season as the reigning American League Champs, hope this extension propels the team to a fast start in what could be the Brewers first trip to the World Series since 1982. www.ESPN.com/Brewers/HappyAprilFoolsDay2011
  15. I was thinking about something along the lines of 3/6. $1M in 2011, $2M in 2012, $3M in 2013. He gets a $1M escalator for reaching 500AB. Add a fourth year option for $6M with a $1M buyout if he reaches 500AB in 2 of the 3 seasons. so the deal would be as high as 4/16, or as low as 3/6. $6M is ALOT of money for a blue collar player who has only made $500K (twice) in his career. He adds $10M if he plays well over the next 3 years, and probably sets himself up for a few Craig Counsel type contracts after that contract if his play remains steady. Given he didn't make the majors till age 26 (i believe), I would think he's be thrilled with finishing a career with $20M+ in career earnings.
  16. Definite no in my book, but as mentioned above, i'm in the group that votes a decided "no" on any of the juicers A-Rod, Bonds, Big Mac, Sosa, Clemens, all are and always will be, cheaters.. Give me a David Eckstein or Craig Counsell any day over people that feel they can't succeed without cheating
  17. Not to go on an "anti-DM" rant here (he's done a fantastic job acquiring Marcum and Greinke), but i am still angry the way he handled the Hardy situation. It seems especially dumb now since we traded away Escobar (the only reason we dumped Hardy), and now have a glaring hole at Shortstop. I realize (in a round about way) that trading Hardy for Gomez allowed us to trade Cain for Greinke, but i still think we could have found a good glove/no hit CF like Gomez pretty cheaply without trading an All-Star SS for him. Hardy hasn't been a world-beater for three years, but a .725-.750 OPS with stellar defense + giving Weeks a reason to stick around, would make one wonder why we blotched that situation so badly.
  18. This is how i'd rank em... Top Five- Target Field, PNC, PacBell, Coors, Petco Next Five- Arlington, Camden, Miller Park, Kaufman, Wrigley MP is very functional, with a good atmosphere, and a great exterior, but inside its a bit "stale"
  19. http://sports.espn.go.com...rk_jayson&id=6056760 Would cover Age 33-42 years... They guy is absolutely worth $30 million/year right now, but ten years from now? In that article, they talk about only 3 outstanding seasons for players older than 36. I'd offer this: 2012: $40.0 million (age 33) 2013: $37.5 million (age 34) 2014: $35.0 million (age 35) 2015: $32.5 million (age 36) 2016: $30.0 million (age 37) (Option to buy out contract for $25 million) 2017: $25.0 million (age 38) 2018: $20.0 million (age 39) 2019 $20.0 million (age 40) 2020 $20.0 million (age 41) 2021 $20.0 million (age 42 Essentially becomes a 5/200 deal (if the Cards take the buyout), or 10/280 He gets to say he has the highest value (per year) ever, and gets to say he has the largest contract ever, but in reality (like an NFL contract), there is no way the team will be shelling out that final $80 million $40M/per is ALOT of money, but this is Albert Pujols. Their franchise would be massively crippled by losing Pujols. I can't even think of a comparison to how bad it would be to lose Pujols. Their "plan B" could be to sign Prince (if they lose Pujols in FA), but while Prince might be able to match Pujols production (over the next 5 years), the franchise would still fall off pretty hard. Should be interesting. If the CUBS give Pujols 10/300 (while the Cards won't), i'd say that would be a very GOOD thing for the Brewers. No way Pujols is worth 5/150 over the second half of that deal
  20. As a lifelong twins fan... i definitely would have been thrilled to have Punto back for $700K. We were paying him $5m the past few seasons. I wouldn't play $5M for CC, but definitely think CC/Punto are a good deal at anything less than $2M Punto might be the second coming of David "Grit" Eckstein in StL
  21. http://www.rotoworld.com/...px?id=3333&sport=MLB Had two very solid years in 2006 and 2008. We probably could get him for $2-3 million. Good plate discipline and excellent defense up the middle. Thoughts? Twins declined his option for 2011 (they just signed that Japanese SS Phenom), so he's a FA
  22. He might made a decent pinch hitter (if we need a jack), but six seasons, four of the six below .300 OBP, and a lifetime best OBP of .310 He also has negative value as a defensive player. That is unacceptable
  23. i think this clearly means that Matt Gamel is our new opening day starting SS
  24. Anyone interested?
