  1. Boy would it be nice to get this one before tomorrow's off day and send the Cubs off to STL 1.5 games back.
  2. I think there was concern after Anderson's 1st 1-2 starts this season when the velo was noticeably down...little was made of the fact he was fresh off an illness just as the season started and likely wasn't feeling 100%. That concern sort of waned after awhile, and now that he's gotten a few starts since coming off the DL under him it sure looks like the velo isn't as much of a worry going forward.
  3. It's just nice to send a mass of fanboys home down I-94 with a bagel to chew on, with really limited periods during the game for Cub fans to actually get excited or hopeful about winning the game. Now if only WisDOT would get smart and reduce southbound traffic along I-94 down to one lane along a shoulder littered with rumble strips right around the 7th inning stretch, we'd have ourselves a perfect night! They could just have huge construction signs blinking 'FIBs - Expect Painful Traffic Delays - Now It's Just Like Going to a Game at Wrigley'.
  4. This thread needs a bump after a solid win tonight...I'll add that the only NL team with 40 wins after tonight is your 1st place Milwaukee Brewers!
  5. Depends how this half inning goes, but yes, I'd at least have him start the 7th if they are still only up 4...too much can go wrong over 9 outs with key bullpen arms unavailable tonight.
  6. Guerra's was still pretty darn fresh...now instead we'll get Jorge Lopez pitching in a big spot tomorrow night because 1/2 the pen is unavailable/limited...
  7. When the strategy to lean on late inning bullpen aces to get you multiple innings doesn't work perfectly in a tight game, it looks really ugly and can have multiple game consequences. Case in point - tonight. Guerra could've absolutely gotten another 3 outs. Instead they Brewers went through everyone in their pen and wound up with an ineffective Albers and Boone freaking Logan. And head into tomorrow with key relievers we already know won't be available.
  8. I fully expect the Brewers to hit two solo shots in the bottom half...
  9. Brewers' plan all along - drain the Cub pen and let them wilt away after their 1 remaining offday between now and July 2nd following the Brewer series...all they need is to have the first two games of their series with the Cards go 15 innings each...
  10. I don't know if the Cubs have a "For the love of God, don't swing" sign but if there was ever a time to create that sign, that at bat by Baez was it. Smirked at this...probably wouldn't even be a sign, just maddon telling the batboy to go get the hitters bat
  11. Schwarber apparently wants to dislocate his shoulder, too... These games are rinse and repeat...can't they just put up a 5 spot bottom 8 and be done with this??
  12. To me, villar's gaffe is compounded by the fact he swung through multiple hittable pitches following a leadoff double the prior half inning. And now nobody wants to throw a strike...
  13. Hader should be able to go in game three...he needs to make appearances more frequently
  14. Only other person I've seen go up there is Dunn, although I'm sure prince got there a few times
  15. It starts with a leadoff walk in a one run game...villar should have made that play, too, but hader is rusty
  16. Hader looks like it's been awhile since he got regular work...not liking this inning
  17. Here we go...leadoff walk in a 1 run game, top o' the order coming up...
  18. Cue up jimmy nelson's entrance music...or Hamels';) Mostly kidding, especially with nelson.
  19. If it weren't for the starts against the brewers, quintana would be lucky to have Suter's numbers. Let's hope the crew remembers they are supposed to mash lhp tonight! Would be great to remind the 3 or 4 cub fans in the park who actually aren't baseball comatose that they gave up one of the very top prospects in the game for a guy that hasn't been anything special - although that's an easier point to make if he doesn't go 8 scoreless tonight...
  20. Those other card farmhands were surrounded two HOF caliber players in their prime in pujols and molina, plus there were other great players on those teams (holiday, walker, to name a couple). The difference now is they lack premier talent to surround with the same caliber farmhands. And their pen isn't nearly as good as it has historically been.
