  1. Unless he does it from within, which could be worse. I guess it's time to overcome my memories of 6/29/2007. Let's at least develop a hatred-softening nickname for him - remember how "Diego" helped some of us overcome the Jim Edmonds acquisition. We've got ample time to come up with something suitable.
  2. Among my (many) concerns is that even if there is exoneration, said exoneration will bring all the conspiracy-theory "MLB favors the Brewers because of Bud" folks back out of the woodwork. As if they ever disappeared into the woodwork. My other many concerns will have to wait for other posts.
  3. I was pretty down when Ulice Payne was let go/left the Brewers. I think those of us who were around BF then felt the same way. There were some discouraging posts (all lost to ezboard). Not to say this isn't also a letdown.
  4. If you do choose to try the chat room, know that it's randomly booting people (we're not doing the booting).
  5. I did just open the chat room. If you can get in*, you can express yourself there in a way that nonmembers will never see. *Yuku allowing, which is no sure thing.
  6. If he's that into the Brewers, a gift certificate would bring the promise of more baseball. They're good on game tickets and parking. Pair that with a tin of quality peanuts and he has something for now as well as for 2012. We have the set of 4 booklets to which JimH5 refers, but we're not selling it. We had to ask for the last one at the ticket office because its intended giveaway date was either a rainout or one we couldn't attend. We had to exchange a ticket for that game for the booklet, but that was fine. OK, aside over.
  7. I mildly dislike that I'm so relieved at the prospect of adequate defense. May our new shortstop overlord stay healthy and inspire less Brewerfan ire than his predecessor did. So, I googled sea-bass-alex-gonzalez to find out what the Sea Bass thing on his Baseball Reference page was about: (source) As pleased as I am at the prospect of adequate defense at SS in 2012, I don't think I want Sea Bass fishy faces to become the new beast mode.
  8. That would have been one classy special. I can see it now.... Dimly lit room, over-sized leather chair, fireplace. Camera cuts to Albert who sets down a leather bound copy of Illiad and announces that he is taking his baseball prowess to Anaheim. Don't forget the heavenly choir singing in the background. How long before STL nation refers to the now-concluded TLR-Jesus era as Camelot?
  9. Lovelovelove the thread title, Funketown, but since the other thread has more comments already I'll lock this one.
  10. We were pondering at lunch today how many networks would pay tribute with a M*A*S*H-a-thon, when we realized that M*A*S*H-a-thons are already fairly commonplace on TV. So I'm hoping for a Dragnet-a-thon. Of course, a December marathon of either show would cut into that critical 24/7 Christmas programming.
  11. NMF, if you were in my extended family, everyone would give you and Mrs. NMF a lifetime pass now that you're parents. Non-parenthood is why the S.O. and I spend every major holiday traveling. (That and my brother's allergy to cats.) More seriously, couldn't you use Little NMF as a catalyst for change? Think about it.
  12. I'm bummed about this. JHJ seemed like a good fit for the Brewers, and his walkup music was great. Well, thanks for playing, Jerry. You made a positive difference at an important time.
  13. If any of their fans from the World Series years are still following, at least they'll know what to expect.
  14. I don't know if I wanted quite this meaning added to the phrase "Miller Park South." But good for them for finding jobs, I guess.
  15. Friday midday I noticed a lot of Italian (sausage) shot glasses. Made me wonder why the Italian was left behind. The other type of shot glass out on Friday was the 70s style block M.
  16. Anyone come across pennants or programs later in the day? These are really the only two things I'm looking for and if no one's seen them out probably won't bother heading down there tomorrow. The team store (upstairs) had NLCS programs for $6. I never saw any NLDS programs either in the clubhouse or in the team store. I also never saw any postseason pennants, which seems a little odd since if nothing else they'll be 2011 NL Central Champions forever.
  17. If you've never been, head on down. It's fun just to be in the service level and clubhouse. Otherwise, check the trading post thread on this sale, where I just added to the reviews of the event.
  18. We arrived at Miller Park a little before 1:00 Friday. There were a lot of fans in the clubhouse throughout our visit, but we never encountered a line during the hour we spent there. I occasionally had to wait for someone to move from a rack before I could take a good look at the contents, but it wasn't like I couldn't move around or anything. Thanks to my Brewerfan and Twitter sources, I had an idea of what to expect already. The only postseason shirts I was in the market for were kid sizes for nephews, so those each set me back $10. For adults, this year's sale was a good time to be size S or XXL, as that's most of what I found. During our visit, the "shirsey" table included $5 shirts for Mitre, Felipe Lopez (someone explain to me why the Brewers even bothered to print up shirts for him during the month-or-so he spent here this year), Escobar, Stetter and at least one XXL Betancourt. The 1972 LP mentioned above was still available. There were some pretty ugly caps whose design motif I can only describe as "spackle." The game-used items provided the usual mixture of entertainment and surprise (the surprises mostly coming in the form of "they want this much for this guy?!?"). Though several of my internet Brewers pals pointed out to me in advance the existence of several Doug Davis jerseys, I'd prefer to remember him in his #49 seasons, rather than his dreadful #25 year. I did spring for the $175 navy Joe Inglett jersey, partly because it's navy, partly because Joe Inglett wore size 46 which actually sort of fits me, and partly because Joe Inglett reminds me of the great 8/6/2010 comeback vs. Houston, which was my favorite game of that season. Other jersey surprises (besides the unpleasant surprises of the Brewers trying to get hundreds of dollars for a Suppan) included a 2001 Jose Hernandez navy jersey - imagine how many times they've tried to sell that one - a couple of gray PIRATEN jerseys from the PIT-MIL Bierbrauer game, and a bizarre navy jersey personalized with PLAYER 11. There was a CC Sabathia retro BP jersey that reached my knees when I held it up to my shoulders. Seriously. And they wanted $700 for it. The amusing/potentially useful thing about the retro BP jerseys (these are royal blue with gold lettering) is that each bears a pricetag saying who used it, though the names don't appear on the jerseys - and they're priced according to the Brewers' perceived value of the player who used it. So a #32 jersey that LaTroy Hawkins wore cost $250, but you could spend $125 for an identical-looking #32 jersey that Carlos Corporan wore. Who would know? We also got some cheap entertainment out of the locker nameplates, mostly "remember that guy?" type names plus good ol' "Chris Kottaras." If you were in the mood to be reminded of such legends as Gus Gandarillas, David Pember, Chris Saenz, Luis Vizcaino, and many, many others, the stack of locker nameplates was the place for you. You had your super-sub-basement $1 plates (like James Mouton and Jim Bruske, which I now own), your regular basement $5-$25 plates (Glendon Rusch for $25? Really?) and the current players' plates (many of which were from the NLDS) fetched hundreds of dollars. Yes. $300 for a Mark Kotsay nameplate. It's reminiscent of the 2008 sale, when there was just a postseason appearance, interest was increased and the Brewers figured they'd make $ off the extra interest. I was surprised there wasn't more postseason merchandise, though - like bumperstickers/magnets/keychains. Still, it's soothing just to have a reason to go to the ballpark.
  19. So...I know some bf.netters were at the pre-sale for season ticket customers Thursday evening. (I was not among them.) How's the scene this year? Edit: I'll start answering my question with some links: Preview from John and Cait Blog Trading Post review thread
  20. Keep up the good work! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. Ah, you beat me to the posting. But for the too-time-challenged-to-click-on-the-link among us, here is the text of the press release:
  22. Every time Jared Berggren makes a basket off an assist, I want to say, "He went to Jared!" So I do, and I'm sure the S.O. is tired of it by now.
  23. Check out this screenshot of Ryan when he spoke to the media today: http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lv3gp149cX1qbbq8so1_400.jpg MVP or not, dude needs a haircut, or at least some product in his hair.
  24. I was in my last year of graduate school the last time there was a Brewers MVP. I remember where I was when I heard the news. Wow. Congratulations, Ryan. I'm happy to behold your work.
  25. I want to say 9:00 AM. I know some bf.netters have been there at opening, so I'm sure someone else can verify.
