  2. Try to overcome the black hole in the lineup, Brewers. 1-0 for Saturday.
  3. Rafael Furcal. (In deep blue because I can't decide how serious I am.)

  5. Gah, you'd think PHI would be motivated to clinch the division championship. Awesome, though, that C-Patt finally paid off for someone, if only temporarily. Edit: OK, on the slight up side we have more time to look for the very best #6 photos.

  8. Welp, Brewers, if you didn't think it was big-boy time before, it is now. 1-0 for Friday. I'll be at the UW Field House but thanks to campus wi-fi will be keeping an eye on you. Yay technology! Also, Phillies, if you're so awesome and stuff, pour it on this weekend. Thanks.
  9. I'm trying to regard this last month of the 2011 regular season as a good opportunity to practice patience. I'm giving myself a solid B so far.
  10. I don't think TBS is any better at predicting the future than anyone on this site or elsewhere.
  11. It gives this year's non-contending franchises something to promote and look forward to.
  12. 12th career walkoff hit makes more sense. I remember one either this year or last vs. the Pirates which was not a home run, but still a walkoff.
  13. Oh, if you haven't seen the redone Union South it should be worthwhile just for that. That place is a freakin' resort. Since it was a few years in the making, most current undergrads probably never saw or only briefly saw the original building. The difference is stark. It's quite deluxe and The Sett is no exception: http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQS4N8flPxW4jcP-IoGJ6p33MSpeuqwrACcGgMyMlwAB34CtYThwA Looks like a big enough screen to me. I think The Sett is meant to be Union South's equivalent to the Rathskeller.
  14. So I was walking through the Memorial Union hallway when a photo of Bernie Brewer on one of the bulletin boards caught my eye. Turns out the Brewers are having an "away game viewing party" in The Sett at Union South on Tuesday, September 20, . Bernie will be there and prizes will be available. I assume a large-screen TV will be involved. I don't see an obvious mention of this on brewers.com (though the bulletin board flyer clearly came from the Brewers), but there is a corresponding entry in the UW-Madison events calendar. Anyone want to go? We could have a nerdy bf.net corner of the Sett and campus wi-fi is available (in case we want to post! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif) UW-Madison students and employees, Wisconsin Union members, and their guests can use the Unions. I'm sure some of you are UW-Madison students; my S.O. is staff and I'm a lifetime Union member. If you're thinking about it, post here. If the S.O. and I get there, at least one of us will have something bf.net on. It seems to be once in a blue moon that the Brewers reach out to Madison, so let's give them reason to keep doing it.
  15. That barreling pace wasn't highly sustainable, I suspect. I guess if STL-PIT is a day game, I'll have that much less scoreboard watching to do at the park tonight. Let's Go Bucs! until September 26.
  16. Er, um, the longer hair helps me out - better than a buzz cut, for sure - but the facial scruff...not so much (unless it's for playoff-beard purposes, in which case I'm OK with it). He's near the top of my scale for baseball talent and clutchiness, but not for eye-candy factor. He's not ugly by any means, just not my type. Look! Eight 8-track tapes! http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQXEKvdNddCJiGjOforygpTKGWWQAGEvDp7hIqc_mMMriwfVP5xig
  17. Link to "John and Cait" blog I don't know that I'm particularly in the mood to think about 2012 when there is plenty to occupy my mind about 2011, but here you go. Some highlights: Opening Day is Friday, April 6 (3:10 start due to Good Friday) vs. STL. There are two home interleague series (MIN and TOR) and three road interleague series (MIN, CWS and KC). Hiya, Ned. Holiday home games include Easter Sunday (April 8, STL), Mother's Day (May 13, CHC) and July 4 (Marlins, who by then will be Miami instead of Florida). The regular season ends at home: October 1-3 vs. SD.
  18. Ripped from tonight's headlines! (even the headlines of the last hour)
  19. Yeah...you don't have to be an expert lip reader to make that out. Yay emotion. In all of Ryan's Sunday at-bats, I was saying to myself (as if he could hear me), no need to wait until the 28th for heroics. Thanks!
  20. Nuts, I must be too tired to remember how to embed this video properly. I liked it in the 1970s (of course, I was like 8 and a girl): Figure Eight
  21. Understood...but Vinny Rottino was the Pride of Racine! http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTDQr_H-kWOZXde7gWN4y5F8IgRx-I-HnHH365aL1aAd5G5abF54A
  22. I was just able to get the chat room to work for me...in case some chat room mojo would help. RALLY CAPS FTW.
  23. We could probably spin off a thread just on mis-heard lyrics. One of my students ran over a squirrel while on his bicycle. He said the squirrel just ran down a tree and into his path. The squirrel survived, or at least didn't die instantly.
  24. The (related) thing that gets me is when I see someone walking around, seemingly talking to themselves, and I have to either wonder whether s/he's talking to him/herself (i.e. crazy) or talking to someone else via a Bluetooth thing in his/her ear (arguably a subset of crazy). This is especially challenging if the earpiece is in the other ear from the side I can see. Someone who works in my building does this a lot, literally pacing the hallway outside the library entrance. He adds to the crazy look by talking very actively with his hands. Dude.
