  1. As I stated above, we happened to be present for Trevor's first and last Miller Park appearances as a Brewer. They were both non-save opportunities, yet Hells Bells was played at each. The first one in 2009 was because someone in the organization hadn't realized that Trevor only wanted Hells Bells played in save situations. The last in 2010, of course, was the Brewers' Miller Park farewell to Hoffman. Another fond recollection: Trevor's first MP appearance in 2009 was the non-save situation. He or someone must have clued the Brewers in on the need to crank up the volume, because when we saw his first save as a Brewer later that same week, the volume of Hells Bells was much louder - to the point where the usher in our section was startled. Yet another thing I enjoyed about the Hoffman-as-Brewer era was watching other fans react to the Hells Bells entrance. We were at a weekday game in May 2009 which drew a bunch of school groups. It was cool to watch a group of middle school boys rock out to an AC/DC song that was already a classic by the time they were born. Even Bernie, in his dugout, was grooving. Good times.
  2. Wow. I wonder if that kid started off as a "Little Badger." (only a good one)
  3. JSOnline said in July 2010 that it would be third largest in MLB, after Kansas City and Arizona. Brewers.com said sometime last year that it would be fourth largest in MLB, after Kansas City, Houston's planned replacement board, and Arizona. My first guess was that in the meantime, other/bigger projects were announced, and with Houston that appears to be the case.
  4. For what it's worth, the Brewers Radio Network broadcasts sometimes played it as a 9th inning began. I don't know if what they were playing was the actual stadium feed, or their own copy of Hells Bells. Anyway, I'll add my congratulations too. Despite the 2010 struggles, it felt like a privilege to have Trevor on our side for the last two seasons of his career. We'd sold our September 7 tickets to one of my coworkers early in the season, well before there was any possibility of the 600th save coming that night. Bummer for us, but an unforgettable thrill for my coworker, who is planning to tell her currently-in-utero daughter that "you were there." As it was, we managed to be present for Trevor's first and last Miller Park appearances, and a bunch in between. Thank you, Trevor, and best wishes going forward.
  5. The thread title gave me a laugh...until I followed the link in the lead post and saw how awesome Jorge was for the Bridgeport Bluefish last year. Shudder!
  6. Oh, good; someone else remembers, too. My memory is of something relatively indirect, like the fan total counting as one "official" voter. I'm sure the Brewers have a rationale for doing the balloting in the heart of the off-season, but I wonder how difficult it is to drum up state-wide interest in December/January. The Madison media, for example, barely took their eyes off the Badgers and Packers long enough to acknowledge the Greinke acquisition.
  7. Per the Brewers' website (link), "The Walk of Fame is selected by a committee of approximately 100 Wisconsin media members and Brewers officials." Adam McCalvy's account of the 2007 class mentions that after the 2005 class was inducted, "the Brewers changed the voting process to make it more difficult for new members to get in." That appears to have been successful. I have a vague memory of sort-of-a fan vote being involved one year, but I haven't found supporting evidence, so perhaps I imagined it. I have to admit, though, that involving fans might swing the pendulum too far the other way (i.e. too many inductees instead of too few).
  8. Really? No posts here since November? Sigh. I just had fun listening to Brian Posick's call of the Badgers' way-too-close 6-5 OT victory over the Golden Griffins of Canisius. The winning goal was scored at 4:52 of overtime and Brian's game-ending call was pretty epic. I don't know if audio highlights become available for UW hockey, but this was a good one and I'm glad I had the radio on.
  9. May 16, 2011 will mark 25 years since Top Gun was released.
  10. That was my favorite Brewer moment of the 2010 season. Thanks for posting the photo, TLB. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. Another year, another Walk of Fame vote with no one receiving at least 75% of the vote. This time Teddy Higuera came closest with 61%. Haudricourt's take (and also from the JSOnline...) Good heavens, Wes Obermueller was on the ballot. I rooted for lil' Wes, but wow. I guess this shows how automatically names are put on the ballot.
  12. With my XX chromosomes and all, I'm not highly competitive or revenge-driven...yet when I read the sentence above I immediately thought, "awesome." Otherwise, being the glass-half-full type I usually am, I'll predict that the Brewers find a better SS platoon - or at least a better SS platoon name - than Counsecourt (and I don't mean Betansell).
  13. I don't have first-hand experience, but it seems to me that finding out your baby's gender is a happy surprise no matter when the news is disclosed. I personally don't think I would want to refer to baby as "it" for months. Anyway, congratulations!
  14. My guess is that fans who are still paying on their season ticket will be entered, but calling your rep to make sure wouldn't be a bad idea.
  15. Per the Fan-tastic Forty rules, you can enter without purchasing a season ticket package, by mail or by visiting the Miller Park Business Offices and filling out a form. I imagine they legally have to provide a "no purchase necessary" means of winning, but that would appear to put a dent in the incentive to buy a season ticket package. (Except for us ultra die-hards who do it anyway.)
  16. Just for the record: brewers.com link to the Fantastic 40 promotion. Looking over that full list of promotions...man, the roof tour (February 1 prize) would probably be interesting, but difficult for a heights-o-phobe to overcome. I'm not sure how I would populate the mini-sausage race (February 14 prize) without making some of my nieces and nephews mad. And I would be incensed if we won one of the "delivery" based prizes (sausages deliver sausage, January 17 prize / sausages deliver roses to your sweetie, January 31 prize) and then were disqualified for living outside the sausages' usual traveling radius. Einhorn, in past years the fan's choice package has been available for all 81 home games, though as you realize (and others have pointed out), seat location is not guaranteed and is more likely to vary/degrade for opening day, other marquee games, popular promotions, etc.
  17. Look at it this way: we can always put on enough face paint so people might not be able to tell it's us. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Honestly, if the S.O. is truly drawn for that prize, I'd suggest the photo an usher took of us after the 9/28 wild card clincher. It was our Christmas card photo in 2008, so some fans have already seen it. Also (random thoughts getting out of hand here), it would be super creepy if the Brewers already had photos of us from a past game. They know where we sit; I'm sure they take lots of crowd photos, and it's possible they operate like UW used tofor Camp Randall games.
  18. Intriguing. Every day from January 17 through February 25, the Brewers will have a daily drawing of season ticket holders (20 games and up) for prizes. I don't think I would need or want my picture to be on one game's worth of season tickets, but some of the other prizes (the link above includes a few) sound all right. Psst, Brewers: the drawing period includes both my birthday and the S.O.'s. Just saying. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I wonder if this means that season ticket sales still need a boost; or maybe they had this in the works even before the Greinke transaction.
  19. People who actively root for bad things to happen to other people. I don't mean hoping the other team's fans go home unhappy, I mean looking forward to other people losing their jobs and the like. How morally bankrupt do you have to be to think that way?
  20. That's wonderful news! (though mere words can't truly capture the relief you must be feeling) We'll hope for continued progress.
  21. I just Googled "hard wired smoke detector chirping" and was surprised by the number of results it returned. Based on my skim of those, I think I would start by making sure each detector is free of dust.
  22. That reminds me of how Chris learned some Japanese while Tomo Ohka was a teammate. That feels like a while ago, but class is timeless.
  23. Like others here at Brewerfan, I enjoyed watching you represent the Brewers and was especially happy to see you return to MLB action in 2010. I'm disappointed that things aren't working out for 2011 with MIlwaukee and wish you well. Seeing anyone else wear #39 won't feel right. Thanks for playing.
  24. Neither Saito nor a number is listed on the brewers.com 40-man roster page as of this morning; but I would be surprised if the number weren't available before March. Fun 40-man roster fact: Pat Egan will apparently wear #52, no doubt to cash in on that Chris Smith mojo.
  25. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs1382.snc4/163476_1742689292756_1404434242_1840915_8329138_n.jpg Behold our interpretation of a relish tray. We discovered that the S.O.'s family is more of a dill pickle group than a sweet gherkin group, and at this holiday went for the green olives ahead of the black. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs736.ash1/162955_1742688612739_1404434242_1840912_7942794_n.jpg The antipasto tray that blew our pickles and olives out of the galaxy. Note how the people who supplied this tray totally undermined our efforts with the inclusion of olives. I'd much rather have this platter among our leftovers than the ordinary pickles and olives.
