  1. Of the four houses at our intersection, the most elder of the owners is usually the first one out with his snowblower and/or shovel. (His house is a school bus stop, so kids and parents wait there for the 7:10 bus, and he always has it ready by then.) So this is not an elderly issue. I reported this kitty-corner property to the city once. There had just been a relatively nice weekend that winter - the kind that provides an opportunity to go out and chop the snow that turned to rutted ice because it froze before it could be cleared - and nothing happened at that house, which led to more icy ruts on the sidewalk we take to get to our own bus stop. When you feel more at ease walking in the street, there's a problem with sidewalk maintenance.
  2. The house kitty-corner from ours went on the market this week. Am I mean if my literal first thought - despite it being the dog days of August - was to hope that the next owners actually bother to maintain their sidewalks in winter? The property admittedly is high maintenance in sidewalk terms (corner lot, half gets no sun in the winter), but so is ours and we put a lot of effort into keeping ours clear.
  3. What are you all going to wear? so we can identify you on TV? (in case your family are TV camera magnets in STL as well as at MP)
  4. Yes. Yes, it was. And Gregg Zaun was among the players driven in by "Voodoo Joe" (a nickname I can't believe we haven't adopted here). The link is from Facebook, and in case you have to be a Facebook user to see it, here's the text:
  5. I know I'm messing with your original context, but Bob just reported that Trevor is warming up in the bullpen. I wonder if they'd do the whole Hells Bells thing for him for a mid-inning entrance. Come on, Brewers, I have to start closing up at 4:30. Edit: the pitcher's (and librarian's) best friend ends the game!
  6. Oh, John, I'd really appreciate it if you could keep this one in check. Think of how hot anyone attending this game must be! Even Uecker called it "smokin' hot" instead of his usual "glorious summer day" shtick.
  7. The biggest difference will likely be in signage and in the need for employees to remember to say/refer to "PNC Club Level" in official communications. So beno has a point. I admit I'd be incensed, though, if the Brewers named anything of theirs for Wrigley. As for the .300/Metavante/NYCE Stadium club, I'm on the verge of giving up on remembering what to call it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. Woah, Zach. I wonder how much of that is fatigue related and how much would otherwise be expected from him.
  9. I always forget that those two rare things happened in the same game. I was monitoring that one on Gameday at the library and was going to order my assistant to join me at the Union in case Dave got to the 9th with the no-no intact. (My then-assistant is also a Brewers fan and is in fact the person who got me on the Corey Hart bandwagon.) Seems like a long time ago.
  10. 9-9 for Casey now. It's a new franchise record. Nice!
  11. Rent out Casey to whoever's playing the Diamondbacks! That might be more plausible than hoping he can rip a triple today. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. But it's too early for the patented 6th inning meltdown! Edit: I'm almost afraid to look at Gameday anymore.
  13. First cats of the thread! We adopted these guys at 6 months old and they are now 7 years old. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v377/152/108/1404434242/n1404434242_124703_6756.jpg Nate (99% black) was found as a stray outside a school in Fort Atkinson. He's very skittish when anyone is around besides me or the S.O., but with us he's the sweetest sweetie pie. Nate will fetch cat toys if we throw them around. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v377/152/108/1404434242/n1404434242_124706_2191.jpg Sean started life as a barn kitty, until he was brought to the same person who fostered Nate. They came to us as a bonded pair, though they are not litter mates. Sean is a major ham and very talkative.
  14. My 30th birthday was the day after my brother's wedding. I was just glad to get out of the reception without being asked why I wasn't married while knockin' on the door of 30. Getting more on topic, I thought maybe UW hockey would be a sports alternative for you, but they're in Denver that weekend.
  15. It'd be nice if these were the Arizona Diamondbacks we were tempted to expect coming into this series, but I've about given up on having expectations about anything baseball-related anymore.
  16. Sorry for the lateness of the IGT. I was doing my day job. Oh, nice, a HBP already.
  17. I didn't think I'd be first to post this, but I saw one pitcher surrender four consecutive home runs on Wednesday. I hope that stays rare.
  18. Can we abolish 4-game home series? Oh, crap, there's one with Florida to finish the home season.
  19. Yep. Had it been a Brewer saying this, I'd react with a facepalm (for the stupid component) while secretly thinking, "Yes!" (for the awesome). I share TheEndless7's interest in someday knowing how much of the Cardinals' attitude is due to TLR. My hunch for a while has been "quite a bit." There aren't many people in baseball, or on earth, whom I spontaneously boo - but TLR tops the short list.
  20. At first (quick) glance I thought you wrote "two hour fight." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif But OK, September 21, I'll mark it on my calendar.
  21. Nottso, you'd probably enjoy Lake Superior State University's annual banished words list. As for what's bugging me, besides the errors in Gameday programs, dew points in the 70s, or worse yet mid-70s. They bug me a lot.
  22. Oh, man, heresrobin is right. I remember another Gameday gaffe in the last year or two where either the phrase "AA Nashville" or "AAA Huntsville" was used. I could see - maybe - misspelling "meteorically" and accepting the spell check's first suggestion ("meteorologically" perhaps?) without thinking. But dagnabbit, if you are writing for the Brewers, get the farm levels right.
