  1. Beware the small sample.
  2. With my fan cap solidly on, I'm delighted by this news...though I actually wondered for a moment if it was an "August Fool" post. But echoing others, Corey, please keep producing. Don't make me look like a doofus!
  3. I know some of the bad this year is talent-related, but some of it is just plain breathtakingly bad luck. Man.
  4. Win-win. Seriously, do we have to lower our expectations further to "don't get no-hit by Wesley Wright"?
  5. I just tried now and got the Wrong Password "greeting." I also am using a Mac, in case that becomes relevant. I have a family thing to attend now, so I will not be trying again this afternoon.
  6. thablingster, I know the Reds' announcers' comments on Wednesday were amusing, but that signature of yours is bad mojo, and the Brewers are manufacturing enough of their own already. But otherwise I agree with your rock bottom goal of scoring a danged run. Come on, Brewers.
  7. Still working on this...a Facebook friend suggested I check Down in the Valley (the County Stadium book) to see if the photo is credited there. The photo is in the book, but individual photos are not credited there either. There are generic credits in the front of the book that include Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Photo Library and Milwaukee Brewers Archives. So my guess is narrowed to those two sources.
  8. I didn't forget to check on this on Wednesday! There is no credit on the wall photo (also on none of the others I checked). So emailing the Brewers is what I'd try next. My first educated guess would be Milwaukee County Historical Society; next after that the team's records (if they happened to inherit photos from the Braves' era because of the common stadium). If it happens to be a WHS image, we may be asking them to post a credit. Some of the details on the enlarged image show me that the original, wherever it is, was not in terrific shape...but I'm just being a historical nerd now. Finally, here is my photo of the image in question. It's too bad the bubbler (yes, bubbler) is right there to stick out like a sore thumb. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs207.snc4/38693_1525593265491_1404434242_1369852_6179780_n.jpg
  9. Until midway through Friday's game, I had the same "wrong password" greeting upon trying to enter the chat - though others did not. I haven't (yet) experienced the inability to type that Pete is reporting.
  10. Maybe the Astros are riding the adrenalin of having experienced some roster changes? That's all I've got.
  11. Apparently all Houston needed was to lose those boat anchors Oswalt and Berkman? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  12. For what it's worth, the chat room appears to be operational at present. No promises for continued success.
  13. Chat room is working fine for me now. It still isn't for me. Other Yuku boards are reporting the same problem (some members getting the wrong-password message, others not). Of course, there has been no response from Yuku.
  14. For those of you following from home (which is probably a lot of us)...the chat room is not operational. Do not change your password if you try to enter and are told "Wrong password!" - that's a Yuku problem. If I can figure out what to do, I'll post here again.
  15. Where does Berkman fit in the Yankees' plans?
  16. Why does NYY need Lance Berkman? Is it their gaping hole at 1B or at DH? And dang it, Corey cut his hair. He almost always does better as shaggy Corey.
  17. It looks like Sabathia to me. If it is somehow Prince from a Sabathiaesque angle, the photo predates his neck tattoos:http://i.cdn.turner.com/si/2010/images/07/30/prince-st.jpg
  18. It's more like there just isn't any loyalty in the working world anymore. As frequent changes in employer/career become the norm in other lines of work, why wouldn't they in sports as well? I try to look at all ballplayers as being employees of MLB rather than individual teams. The vast majority now change teams too often to really make a connection with a single franchise. (Obviously, it's easier for me to attempt this approach with non-Brewers than with Brewers.) I also wonder what the realistic market is for Prince. There is already the issue of how many enormously big-spending teams already have enormously well-paid options at 1B and/or DH. But do other teams regard him as too angry? not classy enough? Could that shockwave move he orchestrated last September have affected his image (outside Milwaukee at least) enough to put a dent in his free agency efforts?
  19. Oh, man, I'm Facebook friends with both a former co-worker and her husband. It appears that over last weekend she informed him that she wants to end their marriage. This is making for some Facebook awkwardness - which I suppose is less bad than in-person awkwardness, which is unlikely because they now live in another state.
  20. I was at that Nats game in 2008 - it was August 10, a Sunday afternoon - and remember that Gabe's home run was barely fair, but I don't remember it hitting the pole. I was watching from section 217 and have no memory of it caroming, so if there was fair pole contact, it was barely so. I do remember being happy after the game, but wondering why it took so much effort to beat the Nationals. Washington was ahead by a good bit until Mike Rivera (playing first that day, maybe?) hit a bases clearing double to tie it fairly late in the game.
  21. Here's a link to the Brewers Radio Network's podcasts, which include audio highlights. As of Thursday afternoon, the link at the top is to the audio highlights for 7/28. For the whole game, I think you'd need a MLB.com subscription to at least Gameday Audio.
  22. Got it. Thanks! Putting Villa into a game is about the same degree of dice-roll as it is for most anyone else in the bullpen, but he did have an option.
  23. So does that mean the Brewers are yet one more body short on their 25-man roster for Friday? (i.e. no Hawkins yet and Villa's in AAA already)
  24. That's unfortunate. I'm glad to have plenty of good Sheets memories on which to draw.
