  2. I'm going to admit I thought this would be a RIP type post too, except that wouldn't really belong in Transaction Rumors.
  3. I'm glad I wasn't the last person on earth rocking a Fitbit One. I lost mine too, after 2+ years, and replaced it with a Charge 2 about 13 months ago. At first I was reluctant to have something on my wrist all the time, but now I like it. The Charge 2, like Patrick425's Alta, tracks more stuff than the One did, and you can sync it to your phone so you're notified of incoming texts and calendar appointments. (You can also bypass that function if you prefer.) I haven't had durability issues with either the One or the Charge 2. I just got a new band (blue for Brewers season!) but I haven't swapped the black band out for it yet. I walk home about 50% of the time, and expect to do it more often in a couple of weeks, once a large road construction project starts in our neighborhood. I use the walk function to time my walk and see which route home uses more or fewer steps.
  4. That game was nice. Frank cut quite a figure in that red suit of his.
  5. The hawing household has yet to sell tickets to anything for more than we paid for them. To me it feels like a small way to share wealth. Your mileage may and can vary.
  6. The jerks will find ways to invade Miller Park no matter what, but I appreciate that the Brewers are trying something instead of nothing. They're stopping just short of officially acknowledging that the CHC games at MP are fairly miserable for actual home team fans. A solid next step would be some kind of goody or voucher for Brewers fans who stick such games out to the end. I've joked before that we should get the fan equivalent of combat pay for CHC series, but why should it be a joke? I can barely tolerate CHC crowds from our loge seats in front of the press box. The ushers in that area keep a good handle on things. Circumstances would have to be particularly extraordinary (like a title clinching opportunity) for me to take in a CHC game from the terrace level anymore. And that is coming from a diehard fan.
  7. As an employer I would be more concerned about his response. I get that he was going with the advice from a job searching website- as though the internet is all knowing- but that wouldn't really comfort me. This is a person who is about to go into the real world where he will be expected to analyze information and make appropriate decisions. Sending his boss a link to an internet site about why he did something, for lack of a better word odd, isn't likely a winning strategy. If he's a good guy it might be a good teaching moment. Learning never ends. Nor does teaching. Hahaha. Same guy waited until 15 minutes before closing today - while I was training a new employee - to ask if I'd look over a cover letter he'd drafted. He's not a bad guy (baseball aside), but sometimes he's juuuuuuuuuust a bit oblivious or tone deaf.
  8. Nice. I'd imagine right now is about the fastest turnaround time you can get, since most people wait much longer to file.
  9. I didn't get a single autograph, but between the season seat holder and the "public" free photo lines, we had a lot of fun photo ops, including: The long-awaited (by me) photo of Zach Davies and my high school senior nephew together. They look a bit alike, not to mention they look pretty close in age. (Hat-tip again to bensheeps for giving nephew a ride to Milwaukee!) A hug from Brett Phillips. A photo with Lorenzo Cain whose posing was captured on Sunday night's channel 12 WISN news. Yes, there's an online clip. Getting all (but one) of the coaches to join me and the SO in JAZZ HANDS. Derek Johnson just stood there. (Ed Sedar also commented on my Lou Palmisano jersey, proving that Brewerfan members are not the only people in the world who remember sweet Lou.) Watching Cecil Cooper razz Gorman Thomas because I told Gorman I had his photo on my dorm room wall in the 80s and Coop was all MUST HAVE BEEN YOUR DARTBOARD HAH HAH HAH. Poor Jeff Cirillo just looked on in amazement. AND after about 15 years of internet-only communication, I finally met SeriesFinale! Man, was it crowded, though. Coming from Madison, we are never there right at opening time, but at 11:00 we were waiting on the first floor for like 15 minutes before we could move upstairs. Then, even indoors, we sometimes couldn't tell which line was which, they were sometimes so long. Oddly, traffic wasn't as much of a problem as I anticipated, with Marquette playing nearby.
  10. Well, I was going to order ours Friday, but that's because I was waiting to make sure the weather would be suitable for our drive.
  11. I'm accustomed to being asked to provide employment references for my employees. Just the "positive" sounded unnecessary, maybe like he was begging me to find something good to say. He's worn his Wainwright shirsey to work (I don't have a rule against T-shirts) too many times for me to be able to emphasize his classiness. But in 25+ years, I've yet to have a student employee about whom I could say nothing good.
  12. I haven't looked at overall traffic, but we've averaged 13 new applications a day every day this week, and for a change there's no blatant spam among them.
  13. One of my student employees is a Cardinals fan. (I know. But he was the only applicant for his specific position, and he was qualified to do the work, and passing over an applicant based on sports team fandom is not ethical.) This is his last semester of grad school, so he's commencing his job search. Today he asked me if I would provide a "positive reference" for him. The phrasing sounded odd to me; I paused before replying; he got all worried that I wasn't willing to help. What would you think if someone asked you for a "positive reference"? I'm trying to figure out if that was awkward or if I'm out of touch. FWIW, the student said he got the phrase from a job searching website, and even sent me the link and the context, despite my saying (multiple times) that I believed him.
  14. Great point there is no mention of hotdogs. Personally I loved when chermake was a sponsor. I can’t see them not offering them at Miller park The absence of hot dog mention in the blog post was very noticeable. FWIW, Cher-Make is the hot dog supplier at Badger sporting events. Part of me still can't quite believe this is a real topic of discussion.
  15. As did I. Besides being solid on his own merits, I thought he made Joe Block sound better too - as if perhaps he was more at ease. That pairing was the first time I felt like we as Brewers fans weren't doomed to an audio wasteland once Bob is no longer doing games. I generally liked Joe's delivery (which I realize probably puts me in a minority here...again ), but with Ueck he was like the deferential grand-nephew. Jeff holds his own with Uecker more effectively, as did Provus and Powell. (Though Uecker still is the elephant in the booth to some degree, regardless of booth-mate.) I haven't heard Ueck and Lane enough to judge how Grindle holds up.
  16. JS Online link 25 years of Klement's and boom, they gone. Looks like a unilateral decision by the Brewers. The new sponsor is not yet named. Is "traveshamockery" too strong a word? On a micro level, I'm not sure it is.
  17. I'd check with the gang at Uni Watch. They're approachable on Twitter and Facebook.
  18. Exactly. I was bummed but not alarmed when Jim Powell moved "home" to Atlanta, because I know what it's like to have the opportunity to 'go home.' I don't know if Provus had a prior connection to Minnesota, but being the top dog there made his move make sense. Joe Block's wife is from Western PA, so that made his move to Pittsburgh understandable. I have a degree of rapport with Jeff and don't know of any personal connection he has to Florida. He's a California native and his parents still live there. Pursuing jobs in a west coast franchise would surprise me less.
  19. I had the same thought. Do they still think he's in MiLB?
  20. Most everybody loves the Uecker on-air/public persona. His off-air persona could be quite different. Enough people in this forum alone have supplied evidence that he's not so happy-go-lucky away from the mic. The Leverings welcomed a daughter just after Christmas, so that would be a tangible reason for more money.
  21. If Jeff is tabbed for the Miami gig, it would indeed be three consecutive three-season stints for radio guys not named Uecker: Provus 2009, 10, 11 Block 2012, 13, 14 Levering 2015 (as the #3 guy), 16, 17 If Lane Grindle were to depart after 2018, that would continue the 3-year-tour pattern. A few thoughts: - I get that Uecker/Scully style longevity is a product of another era, but I'd settle for, say, a Jim Powell-length stint anytime now. - I get that moving from radio to TV is generally an upward move, and obviously Miami is a big market. But who's attending/watching Marlins games? If it's as few as has been the case in recent years, is that really a net-gain move? And the fans who actually remain (or somehow become) engaged with the team are (or IMO should be) salty about the fire sale and the ouster of their popular announcer. You want to be the guy who has to win them over? On the surface (and of course that's all the story we're ever going to get), to me it smacks more of "getting out of Milwaukee" than anything else. I find that troubling. - I'm going to say it: I wonder if there's a side to working with Uecker that is rubbing younger booth-mates the wrong way. That could be as simple as "dude won't leave and I'll always be second banana in Milwaukee" or...less simple. I'll be flat-out sad if this is the end of Jeff's tenure in Milwaukee. I enjoy listening to him, I appreciate that he is open to interacting with fans, and truth be told, there are times I prefer the Jeff/Lane call to the Uecker/Jeff call (or the rarer Uecker/Lane). That doesn't mean I dislike Uecker, but I realize the Ueckerless pairings have value too.
  22. I got Corey Knebel's autograph, took multiple photos, and had a brief conversation with him last year since there was NO line around him when I visited. I was pretty surprised by the lack of fan attention, but it worked out for me!
  23. Per Caitlin Moyer's blog Looks like Aurora Health Care will be the Brewers' medical partner now. Among the highlighted changes: Aurora employees will staff the Miller Park first aid rooms Aurora will be part of the ballpark's parking lot shuttle and wheelchair services Aurora will sponsor a nursing room for mothers They'll help develop a "healthy food option" for the Miller Park menu The picnic area in the right field corner will be the Aurora Health Care Bullpen Aurora will also be the sponsor for Hispanic Heritage Day (new name for Cerveceros Day), African-American Heritage Day (new name for the Negro Leagues Tribute Game) and a Pride Night at Miller Park. The latter would be a first-time promotion for the Brewers. I read this to my SO and he wondered if Bob Uecker would have to start getting his checkups at Aurora instead of Froedtert.
