  1. I was pleased with the Philadelphia-Tampa Bay matchup, because no huge-market teams were involved; but in the end I watched some, but not a majority, of each game. This was partly because of the weather-affected whacked out schedule (that Saturday game simply ended too late for me, and a prior commitment last night took precedence over the rest of Game 5). Also, I find there really is a limit to my tolerance of Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. I just don't like the way they call a game, or the way FOX makes them call a game, or whatever. Thus for a few of the games, I switched to ESPN Radio, which allowed me to multi-task while still following the WS.
  2. Well, I'm certainly happier for Geoff than for any other Phillie (yes, Matt Stairs, including you). But I guess we may as well get on with the off-season.
  3. Yeah...but when you put it that way ("pitchers and Molinas"), I still smile.
  4. Oh, man, not Crazy Joe! Now who's going to entertain me by leaping from a crouched position before his at-bats? As for McGehee, which looks like it has too many Es, I'm neither thrilled nor fully repelled...maybe just puzzled, like others here.
  5. Imagine the Rays winning game 5 Wednesday night, and then sweeping the remaining games in their home park. Phillies Nation, or whatever the group noun is, would want Bud's head on a platter. And SeriesFinale is right; there's no way he could have proceeded without making someone mad. Edit: Why does this picture of Bud... http://cdntn.madison.com/images/articles/tct/2008/10/28/89584.jpg ...make me think of this one? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/2002/allstar/news/2002/07/09/allstar_game_ap/t1_selig_ap.jpg
  6. Seriously? There's a need for hip-hop competition in the Madison radio market?I'm not asking that to make a judgement on hip-hop - I'm just mildly surprised that there are now two hip-hop stations. Edit: Actually, 93.1 is apparently now simulcasting with 106.7, so I guess there isn't really hip-hop competition. (I realize this doesn't help you, NMF.)
  7. I think the Thompson Twins were British. Here's Wikipedia's "List of people from Milwaukee." Maybe in the event of a future World Series, the Brewers should expand the search to "Wisconsin's own" instead of "Milwaukee's own."
  8. I'd been thinking last night, as the field got worse and the rain didn't stop...ah, great, another opportunity for Bud to display his talent for PR, this time on the biggest of baseball's stages (even bigger than the 2002 all-star exhibition/sham/game).
  9. Well, if it's high-school-ish, it's also university-ish, as the Kohl Center and Field House at UW-Madison have banners listing postseason appearances for a variety of Badger sports. Sounds all right to me.
  10. Are you going to tell us where you went? We need closure! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. Move Game 5 to Miller Park. I'd consider calling in sick to attend it.
  12. Who would have sung the national anthem at Miller Park, had the Brewers hosted World Series games this year? Bigger cities seem to have multiple "hometown's own" major recording artists to choose from (even if it is the likes of the Backstreet Boys and Hall & Oates). I remember Al Jarreau singing before one of the 1982 WS games. I'm sure I'm missing someone else. I doubt they'd have Joseph Attanasio sing each time. (Is this random, pointless, and dumb enough?)
  13. Yeah, wouldn't redirecting after this much of a change be a pretty basic courtesy?
  14. Quick answer, though I'm not in Milwaukee myself, would be either a Kohl's (where playoff gear was 55% off last weekend and non-playoff Brewers stuff 30% off), or the Brookfield Square MLB shop. At least, both are open into the evening. I'm sure posters who are more local than I will chime in.
  15. I hope that's not your absolute favorite picture of Johnny Depp, Brian.
  16. Hmm, not saying the season's over or anything, but that home run by Joe Blanton certainly makes it feel more like it's the Phillies' year.
  17. Why did you put "1907- " on the Cubs World Series gravestone, when the last time they won was in 1908? Just wondering.
  18. Perhaps limiting the field to Brenly, Randolph and Macha is Doug's way of making Macha look all right (if only in comparison) - like reverse psychology, though maybe not quite.
  19. Link to 10/24/2008 Brewers press release Highlights: - Outfield grass will be replaced by the same kind of grass that's currently in the infield. - All 43 suites on the club level will be renovated. One will become the "2008 Brewers Party Suite," with "photos, posters and color schemes representing the 2008 National League Wild Card winners." - The club level Fan Zone store will get a facelift. - The five Function Rooms will be upgraded. Click here for the Journal Sentinel's take on the changes (including some photos).
  20. Like my blue kool-aid avatar might suggest, I'm still happy about the playoff appearance. The September 28 and October 4 games made up for a lot of the crap I've witnessed since my first attended game in 1983. Also, not to rankle the anti-wild-card-commemoration crowd further, but the Brewers are rolling out a 2008 Brewers Party Suite in time for the 2009 season. Yes, with enough money you, too, can relive the halcyon days of 1-6 months ago, with up to 48 guests. Of course, by the time the suite is in use, it'll be more like 6-12 months ago. In a world where insta-nostalgia is becoming the norm (just look at VH-1), I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by this. Anyway, the reason I mention it here is because if the Brewers are putting party-suite-level effort into commemorating the 2008 Brewers, before 2008 even ends...I think we can expect to see a banner or something. Just a heads-up. The link above mentions several other planned improvements to Miller Park during the 2008-2009 offseason. I'll begin a separate thread for that discussion.
  21. Link to Madison DMV information NMF is right. Hill Farms (Sheboygan Ave, just west of Hilldale Mall) is closest to campus. The one at Westgate has evening hours (to 6:45) and Saturday hours, and is not way farther out. Hill Farms is kind of infamous for long waits (though they now have a lighted sign as you enter listing the expected wait time). But Westgate is sometimes staffed by only one person, so it's not necessarily faster. If you don't have a car in Madison, Sheboygan Ave is on some bus routes, and Westgate Mall is within walking distance of the west transfer point.
  22. It appears that "busy" is becoming the norm for websites now - for better or for worse. On the JSOnline home page, I think I would bold the story headlines just a bit. That was the first thing I noticed.
  23. I'm hoping this car alarm that's going off in our neighborhood doesn't keep sounding throughout the UW football game (which hasn't started yet).
  24. WSR, when we were there last week (paying full price like suckers), there were none of the locker room style caps.
  25. Ooh - if anyone gets over to this sale and can acquire an extra playoff program (the special edition Gameday), I'd be happy to reimburse you for cost and postage. I have one already; this would be a gift for someone else. If you could help, please send me a PM. Thanks for the recap, tristarscoop. I wish I were able to get there this weekend.
