  1. I might leave work early today to give it a go at Madison stores. I'm not sure what success I'll have.

  3. CC and Ryan agree with David Bowie: We can be heroes, just for one day. I attended my first Brewer game in September 1983 (at age 16), watched the Orioles clinch the AL East, and wondered what it must have been like to experience the same in 1982. I've wondered that for part of every game I've attended since (some games, only for a split second, but always part of every game). Sweet lord, now I know, and it was beautiful. I've seen the highlights a bunch of times already, but I can't get enough of them. I could spend the whole night sitting here, shaking my head and saying, "Ryan freaking Braun. CC freaking Sabathia", and it would never get old. September 28 just keeps coming up big in Brewers history. The last game at County Stadium was September 28, 2000. Mark Attanasio's birthday is September 28. The Brewers were eliminated from the 2007 playoff race on September 28. And now we have a September 28 that may never be topped. I'm grateful for today, and happy for us all.

  5. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I don't know what I can add that hasn't been said here already. I'm still teary - though I didn't sob as much as I always imagined I would - and I hugged and high fived a lot of people today, some of whom I even knew. Finally, I feel happy, proud and a little smart for having had this in our yard since March. (It's still there now.) http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g270/hawing/Brewers%20-%20General/100_1503.jpg What a terrific and memorable day to be a Brewers fan. Thanks to the holy trinity: Ryan, CC and Mark.
  6. I'm excited and nervous but at peace. I surprised myself by waking up with a degree of peace, for what feels like the first time this homestand. But now that I read more of this thread, I'm already crying - starting with jflick's post - and not just because he was kind enough to mention me, but because I feel the same way. I will be happy for myself, of course, if the Brewers advance today (or Monday), but now that I've come to know (and in some cases meet) so many of you, I almost want it more for others than for myself. I want bball123h to be able to extend his stay in Wisconsin. I don't want bensheeps' last game to be that crappy 1-10 loss to SD. I want davego's trip from La Crosse and his Oktoberfest negotiations to not be in vain. Now I want jflick to be happy for the rest of us too. The cub fanbase (at least the ones who tend to turn out at Miller Park) gives me fits, and as soon as I saw the 2008 schedule last October I have been partially dreading this day. I don't want my last memories of the 2008 season to be a crapload of blue Ws waved in my face. Part of me suspected all along that this game would be necessary, though, so we're going; and I managed to mostly keep my cool among the terrace level fans yesterday. As vexing as the 2008 Brewers have been at times, they deserve my support, and all of ours. So I guess I'm nervous again, and I'm definitely bringing an extra hankie to the game. May I have the opportunity to use them for tears of joy, instead of the other kind.
  7. Best wishes to the Marlins today. Heck, best wishes to Wes Helms.
  8. Dear Brewers: You know what's within your reach. You can get there, today. I'll echo sauveb: have fun, and good luck. Best wishes, hawing

  10. You've got a point. Along this line, imagine if someone had told us this on May 2 or 3, when we were all reacting to the Gallardo injury. It should be fun. We're here because we like baseball. This is the deepest the Brewers have gone in a season (without being eliminated) since 1982. That's an accomplishment! It's very tempting to look back and think about 'what might/could/should have been', but I'd rather focus on the peaks than the valleys from this season.
  11. I'd have to say not out of hope, but I'm less hopeful than I was about 24 hours ago. Today I felt not so much stung by the loss itself (losses happen) than irritated by the visitors' fanbase. We've over-discussed them already so I won't start that up again. But I wish the Brewers wouldn't start or finish the home season vs. the Cubs. I'd rather have Sabathia going Sunday than any other current Brewers starter. It's a bit analagous to Don Sutton being the stopper in the last game of 1982. We just don't know which Brewers squad will show up tomorrow. Looking at the bigger picture...I'm usually kind of down about game 162 because I never like the end of the baseball season, not even the crappy seasons. I won't like the end of the 2008 season whether it comes Sunday or Monday or next Saturday or the end of October.
  12. (If wOOgiE22 does his thing later, please move my post to his thread and remove this parenthetical statement. I can't not post on this game before we leave for it.) Your goal has not changed, Brewers: a 1-0 record for Saturday. That's all I ask.
  13. Well, the card that says "go fish" has a fish on it, at least, and the graphic worked last night.
  14. Mark Attanasio hasn't shaved since Saturday. Link

  17. I've literally been waiting a year to have the opportunity to post this.? I'm teary eyed just typing this sentence.

  19. if the Brewers are going to rip my heart out, I prefer they do it at a reasonable hour. On the other hand, the Brewers are 2-0 this week in games decided at about 10:15 PM CDT.
  20. It probably is the same song, but I'm usually cheering when the Brewers win - thus to date I have failed to give it a good listen.
  21. Nice topic, and I dearly hope it's not painfully irrelevant by this time Saturday. Displaying my lack of music hipness, I'd never heard of O.A.R. before this week. Then they were announced as the headliner for Freakfest in Madison the other day, and now I read ewizabeff's post. I couldn't hear the song very well last night at MP but I could possibly go for that. The lyrics cited above certainly make sense. Could anyone tell what song was being played during the post-walkoff celebration Thursday night? because I kind of liked what I heard, or at least will probably associate it forever more with last night's happy celebration. As for my own theme song, I've had "Heroes" by David Bowie on my mind for weeks. We can be heroes, just for one day. It seems consistent with the 1-0 mindset.

  23. The goal has not changed, Brewers: a 1-0 record for Friday. That's all I ask. (and congratulations, dlk9s)
  24. What is sad is even if Counsell reaches, I have ZERO confidence in Braun right now. I said to the S.O. during Ryan's last at-bat that I'd love to be proven wrong, but I just didn't think Ryan was going to be the answer in the 10th inning. So whoever's post that was above, it wasn't just you. Listening to the replay of the walkoff call, I needed a moment to determine whether it was Bob's call or Jim's. The crowd nearly drowned Jim's voice out. Please, Brewers, don't let that be the last special moment of 2008.
