  1. Robb Edwards was back behind the mic Monday night, just under three weeks after his heart attack and bypass surgery. Nice surprise, but wow.
  2. Well, that was a squeaker. I taught a youngster at tonight's game the importance of positioning the rally cap. Doug "No Decision Again" Davis got a friendly round of applause during the starting lineup introductions, then went on to neither win nor shame himself. That plus the Brewers' win is good enough for me. And (maybe this is mentioned elsewhere already), Robb Edwards was back behind the public address mic, three weeks after a heart attack and bypass surgery. Dude is apparently an iron man. But really, it was a happy surprise to hear his voice again.
  3. Maybe the Brewers will run a "congratulations and best wishes" videoboard message. That might prompt some classy behavior. I realize it's not the same thing, but they had the big videoboard tribute for Jenkins (which for me was a surprise).
  4. My original DD avatar was his MLB head shot - which is no longer available with him in a Brewers cap. This image is the one bf.net used in his player profile. I like the near-vintage Sharpie facial hair. Without photoshop skillz, this will have to do.
  5. As a mini-tribute to Doug Davis' initial (and let's hope permanent) victory over thyroid cancer, I am using his old brewefan.net player profile picture. Note how he is approaching peak Sharpie facial hair status. This doesn't mean I've stopped drinking the blue kool-aid.
  6. Many of you know I'll be leading that effort (in addition to paying homage for a few days via avatar). However, in the end, go Brewers.
  7. Ryan Braun laughs at the notion of a bobblehead curse. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif This game was a blast to be at. It had all the elements of a letdown game - big crowd, popular bobble, Dave Bush backed up by a JV/forfeit lineup, and the sweep attempt. Yet it all worked out, and was a laugher to boot. Fans started the wave, but during the blowout part, which was almost acceptable. Even the weather was great. As I watched Ryan's home run trot today, it occurred to me that maybe Ryan makes the difference. Anyway - 7-3 on the hawing ticket now. I won't complain about that.
  8. Friday night was the first time (of nine games we've attended this year) I noticed some boos when Ned's name was announced. It was noticeable but not dominating. Earlier this season I saw a Yosted shirt (not the bf.net style, the firenedyost.com style) on a fan at a game, and he wasn't asked to leave. Admittedly, the word 'fire' isn't on the shirt (the website is abbreviated to FNY). Without more information, I'd join jazzytrav in suspecting that there was more to those fans' conduct than just wearing Fire Yost shirts.
  9. Six or seven squirrels appear to be having a party outside our house. They are running and chasing each other from the tree across the street to the electrical wires that cross our street to one of our trees, then down to our yard and across the street to run the course again. Their chattering was so loud it prompted me to see what the heck was going on. It makes me think of our cats when they get what we call "the wilds" and chase each other through the house. Honestly, it's fun to watch. (Sorry, Jamie.)
  10. I think Russell's Saturday night blast warrants a copy-and-paste of TooLiveBrew's haiku from the Branyan called up thread: The Muscle returns Milwaukee cheers once again bat and ball are one With all due respect to Bill Hall (and I believe he is due some respect), I'd have been disappointed to see the Brewers facing a lefty today. I want a chance to see a Branyan monster blast.
  11. That's crazy, I can possibly see not getting into Ivy League schools with those stats, but Northwestern, Michigan, and Purdue? I can't fathom them having several thousand kids with a better academic record than that. But there could be several thousand kids with a similar academic record applying to each of those schools. UW-Madison got more than 24,000 applications in 2007, for a freshman class in the mid-5000s (source here). Getting in here is starting to be akin to winning a lottery. My high school academic record was very good and I was accepted everywhere I applied, but nowadays, I suspect applying to UW-Madison with the same record would be a crapshoot.
  12. FSN's coverage was such a miss that the home run wasn't even mentioned on Baseball Tonight.
  13. Well, there you go. 28-28 going into the games of June 1.
  14. I'd like to see a memo distributed to all the FSNs, indicating that all camera operators should be on global alert whenever Russell Branyan is batting.
  15. the check should be issued on June 6th, yet they are now telling me it will be sent out by May 30th. I don't get it. The feds seem to have started the whole process a bit early - for example, I was in the first batch of direct deposits for this rebate, and the funds were in my account April 29 instead of the originally stated May 2. So if yours is a bit early, that would be consistent.
  16. Russell the Muscle Hits it to the Dew Deck. Wow. Ben says, "Oh my God." http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. Sorry, TLB, I've only heard "see-sil" for Coop, and I heard it a lot in the 1980s. How novel it is for the Brewers to lead from essentially pole to pole. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif We weren't planning to go to this game, but I'm glad we did. As a bonus, the S.O. caught a foul ball that Hunter Pence sent back into the loge section to lead off the Houston 4th. It popped over the net, bounced off someone else in our loge section and the S.O. made a nice barehanded snag. Unfortunately, we have no idea if it was shown on TV or mentioned on the radio. (I prefer to think of it as a ball thrown by Manny Parra.) And that home run of Prince's? It took me right back to last season, it was such a no-doubter. He may have misplaced his timing or his groove, but no one who has lost his power could drive a ball like that.
  18. I only hope the handshake left you with enough of his DNA to allow a cloning.
  19. Looks like we may be driving through thunderstorms to get to the park tonight, so I very much hope they can overcome the retro uniforms and play well. Be the Man(ny)!
  20. Huzzah for craig, for being the first to actually post what many of us were probably thinking.
  21. With apologies for deflecting further from the original topic, I wonder what Fleming's offers as a Vegetarian Option.
  22. Once I saw that Wednesday's opposing starter was named Jo Jo, it made me think of the Beatles song Get Back. So I doctored part of the lyrics. It's not as funny as some of the charts (which I sincerely hope brewers19 appreciates, once he sees them), but maybe it will banish the Get Back tune from my head, at long last.
  23. Jo-Jo was a man who struck out nine Brewers Yet he didn't get the win. Jo-Jo walked J.J. (of Tuscon, Arizona) Then Rickie tripled him in. Get home, J.J.! (Dale Sveum was at his daughter's high school graduation.)
  24. No kidding. I wasn't flush with cash at the time, so I wasn't going to turn down a free personal pan pizza; but I remember thinking during the stop, "how many bicyclists are blowing through this intersection while you reward me for following the rule?"
