  1. Ohhh, this is going to be a wacky game. Did Uecker just say "true dat" while talking to Jim? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Bob has been known to utter exactly that phrase from time to time. It was mid-season last year when I first noticed it.
  2. One of my best employees is moving out of state next month (stupid grad school plans). I want to take him to a Brewers game before he leaves, and despite our having season tickets to what seems like a zillion games, the only date for which he appears to be available is not in either of our ticket packages - Thursday, July 10 (day game with Colorado). Poking around on the Brewers' website, the pickings for two seats together looks surprisingly slim. If you have two contiguous tickets you're looking to move for that date, please send me a PM. Please note that my employee has not 100% confirmed his availability for July 10, so I am not 100% in the market for this date just yet. I'm told I should know in the next day or two. Without wanting to sound too much like a snob, for this game I'd like to avoid terrace reserved seats. It's YMCA Day and I imagine the terrace will be jammed with amped-up kids wearing matching neon shirts. Terrace box on down, I'd be ready to consider. Thanks, in case you can help.
  3. The map I linked to in reply #1 above indicates that 19 is still closed in part of Jefferson County, about half the distance from Waterloo to Watertown. The only problem with the County A to 16 route is if the traffic backup begins west of the Lake Mills exit (which was the case for us last Friday). If you're waiting half an hour just to get the last few miles to that exit, whether you take that alternate route or just suck it up and wait through the rest of the backup might be a wash (pun unintended).
  4. Last Friday we left Madison at 4:00 for the Brewer game. The traffic backup began a little bit west of Lake Mills and it took us 55 minutes to travel 7 miles. We reached the MP parking lots at 6:30. Given our experience, I would be surprised if you could leave Madison at 5:00 and not be late for a 7:30 concert, on a Friday night. Coming back from Madison (before the I-94 crossover lanes were built), we had decent success taking the Hwy 16 exit from I-94. 16 goes around Pewaukee and Oconomowoc, then to Watertown. In Watertown we took Cty A which got us to Lake Mills and from there it was easy to get to the interstate. While we were stopped in EB traffic last Friday, we wondered if we shouldn't have tried taking that route in reverse (exit at Lake Mills, then take A to Watertown, and 16 back to interstate) - but since the backup starts west of Lake Mills, I don't know if that would have done much good. Other roads may be available (like 18 out of Madison? nope, that's closed at Jefferson), but bear in mind that up to 3" of additional rainfall is expected from Thursday night into Friday night. Smaller highways that may have opened since last week may be closed again by Friday afternoon if enough new rain falls by then. If I were in your shoes, I'd try to leave earlier. If that's impossible, I'd keep checking the DOT road closures map before you leave Friday, and if you have a good, detailed map (like a DeLorme gazetteer) or a GPS navigator, bring it along.
  5. Actually, we went by this weekend and there is still some hill space - but considering how full the larger space usually gets (and how quickly), I think the only way we'd score a spot there is to go in like mid-afternoon (earlier than we'd prefer). The nice thing about the larger space is that we've been able to arrive as "late" as 7:00-7:30 and still have a good seat, listen to the end of the Brewer game, etc. If the Union Theater weren't so tall, we'd have a decent view from the S.O.'s office, and wouldn't have to contend with bugs or even mugginess. But alas.
  6. Rhythm & Booms, Madison's biggest fireworks show, is this Saturday, 6/28. We usually walk to campus and sit in front of the Washburn Observatory to watch from across Lake Mendota, but the observatory is being renovated and our traditional space is fenced off. For those of you who check out R&B, but don't want to spend all day and night out at Warner Park, where do you go to watch? I'd prefer to find a place that is accessible from the near west side without a car (Metro may be doable), and doesn't require arriving there hours and hours in advance. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
  7. As a platoon nickname, Counselnino will be difficult to top. Good luck to Tony, and may you not save your greatest post-Brewers play for a future game against the Brewers.
  8. OWBC, if this comes to pass, it will be on your head. I will keep track. And OSS, I realize that the photo you posted of the sobbing woman has come to signify the cubs' excruciating near-miss of 2003 (for better or for worse). Every time I see it, though, I'd have to admit I'd be doing the exact same thing, should the Brewers find themselves in the same situation. (Obviously I'd be wearing a different cap.) Since we'll probably never know if she's one of those mindless Wrigleyites that give real fans a bad name - because amid the scads of arrogant casual fans who rile us up so, there are good fans in even their fanbase - or the cubs' equivalent of me, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and not laugh at the photo. I find ways to ignore the cubs as often as I can. I do this for my mental health. The only time I can't avoid them is when they play the Brewers (unless I choose to ignore the Brewers during those series). The outcomes of those games are either terrific or horrific, not much in between. P.S. Also for OSS: Weird time stamps appear occasionally in Yuku posts. The reason why is not known, but PrimetimeHater may be on to something.
  9. http://www.allegria.com.au/images/fullsize_corporate/minus5_3_fs.jpg Congratulations to pitchleague and hammytime too. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. Oh, but the miracle blast did happen. Julian Tavarez cannot take that beautiful moment away from me.
  11. So, those of us who were at the 6/14 loss to the Twins not only can remember that night for the Branyan Miracle Blast, but also for the possible sunset of Julian Tavarez's career? (or did he have another appearance after that?)
  12. I don't know about "ready" as in "hopeful", but maybe "prepared."
  13. High risk, high reward. Plus if you want terrifying, wait 3+ months. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  14. and UWSP (which is basically 30 minutes away, too close?) Whether 30 minutes away is "too close" or not really is up to you to decide. I started off at Beloit College, about 30 minutes away, thinking that being closer to home might ward off homesickness. (I spent too much time prior to college anticipating homesickness, which snowballed into a self-fulfilling prophecy.) Beloit and I turned out not to be a good match for each other (though it's a good school and I was a good student), but looking back, my dissatisfaction had nothing to do with its proximity to home. If gas prices weren't on the rise, I'd suggest that living within commuting distance could save you some money, though at the expense of some typical college experiences.
  15. I like how this thread was begun during typical workday hours. There's not much major I dislike about my job, apart from maybe the tendency of some to automatically assume that public employees are a bad thing.
  16. I only hope you have a whole hawing chapter in your diary. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif And TLB, you've got some 'splainin' to do. This thread is headed for WOAH SOLVDD, right?
  17. I was a little surprised they used Chipper when they did.
  18. I think that might have been scoop53714.
  19. A little bit of me would die if Kapler were sent down and he was claimed by some other team.
  20. I think it's really annoying too, but unfortunately writers will make a play on words with any team/player/sport or whatever. Yeah, ask any Monroe Cheesemakers alum. I saw my share of "Curdle the Cheese!" signs back in the day. Though when Monroe has won state championships (which actually started happening once I was out of high school), I did kind of like the headline, "The Cheese Stands Alone."
  21. There must be something better over which to have a vendetta. http://www.simpsoncrazy.com/episodeguide/HABF02.jpg
  22. Early in the season, we got a mailing from the Brewers saying how easy it is to sell tickets we can't use on Stubhub. It's at home with our Brewers ticket stuff. I'll try to remember to check it tonight for details.
  23. Did Joe Dillon blink when you met him? I just wonder if he ever blinks.
  24. Would that we might see a September 2007-esque Rickie. Welcome back.
