  1. Y'arrrr, the Pirates be a pack o' scurvy bilge rats! (my pirate curse)
  2. Any Cubs success is generally problematic for me. However, I can think of a few very thin (wafer-thin) silver linings to which I would cling if they ever win it all: - Their casual fan base would take at least a small hit. The casual fan who watches the WS and says, "hmm, Chicago hasn't won in like 100 years, may as well root for them" wouldn't have that argument anymore after they won. I realize that this would probably be more than overshadowed by the overdose of (as SeriesFinale aptly put it) entitlement/arrogance, but that's why I said "wafer-thin silver lining." - I do know a handful of people who are fans of the Cubs like we are fans of the Brewers. I would be happy for those select few. - If it did happen in 2008, based on recent history, that'd probably be it until 2108, which should take care of practically all of our lifetimes.
  3. Good point, LaprilOne. I believe a bad day at the ballpark is better than the average day in the off-season.
  4. Well, this morning's media action does make Yost's future a more public issue than it has been (except on this site, where it's been on the table for months).
  5. Maybe if Ryan called a players-only meeting.
  6. I'd expect to. Finishing under .500 certainly hasn't stopped us before. Edit: In fact, a sub-.500 finish may deter enough other fans so that those who do renew may get better seats next year.
  7. If the Brewers' deal with Kohl's lasts until the day they clinch a postseason berth, whether it's Bob or Jim who triumphantly announces the final score, I hope they purposely skip the "baseball presented by Kohl's." I'd chip in to pay their fine or whatever. (I know how impossible the above scenario seems right now. In theory, I think it would detract from the moment for either of them to have to say "Your final score today, in this championship game - baseball presented by...") The statement is invasive enough right now, even when they announce a crappy ordinary game score.
  8. The May 27 loge outfield seats now cost $10. That should be more than enough of a discount to get people buying them Monday morning. (Edited to specify loge outfield)
  9. Bill needs the Lasik. There's an all-star break coming up if he's worried about missing a lot of games.
  10. (sorry I know there is a thread for this) Yeah, just to preserve our remaining shred of forum sanity, let's all please take Ned comments to the Ned Thread or the Vent Thread. Thanks.
  11. In some cases, adequate hitting and pitching, but then no defense. I wonder if there have ever been three contestants in the home run inning before? There are already two winners today.
  12. Those May 27 loge outfield seats are down to $17!
  13. Woogie, I think it's time for that zombie themed IGT.
  14. What an all time awful game for Mr. Hall. How will he ever be able to out do this one? Shhh, don't give him any ideas.
  15. Come on, Brewers. Think of all your fans who spent all the dollars and endured all the hassles to get out to Boston to watch you. Do it for Mass Haas, for cryin' out loud!
  16. Props to mrs. wopat for catching the foul ball! May it not be the only good thing to happen today.
  17. A couple runs here would be nice. Ask and ye shall receive.
  18. Now this, and the original post, form a Yost angle I can support. Thanks for bringing it up.
  19. Man this is my first IGT of the year, has it been this doom and gloom all season after just ONE run? You'd certainly think so, given some of the posts so far today. Garbage? Game over? Nothing to enjoy after one hour? And I thought the FOX announcers' attitude on the Brewers (motto: FOX loves SOX) was bad. I acknowledge that the short-term outlook is not promising for this game, but if all you're going to do is run down the Brewers and assume things are hopeless, why hang out here?
  20. At the time the postponement was announced, Brian and Bill didn't know.
  21. And in the meantime, I caught up on some FSN Wisconsin Brewers programs. Where do you suppose they filmed Braun's In My Own Words? It looks like the kitchen of an upscale condo behind Ryan.
  22. Well, if any of the bumped fans had plans for tonight's game, they've got some leeway now. (So Midwest Airlines, a Brewers sponsor, didn't anticipate that Brewer fans would turn out for this series?)
  23. It's interesting to see a few AL teams per year - probably because most of the AL used to be the Brewers' regular opponents - but it's not like interleague play was the magic bullet that rekindled my interest in baseball. Like some other posters, I don't consider the 'natural rival' to be critical. Every year I smirk when seeing some of the matchups between teams whose rivalry is clearly manufactured by MLB and not at all natural. I'd trade the home and home series with Minnesota for more interleague variety, but in the wide world of baseball, I suspect that puts me in the minority.
  24. I'd say today's phrase of the game was "Gary freakin' Bennett." What's his thing with getting to the Brewers? It's not like the fans booed him on opening day. I'll focus on what went right, or at least better. The S.O. and I each spent time in the front row behind home plate, thanks to And That's generosity (and mostly because he woke up feeling unwell - we hope that doesn't last). We didn't have a lot to cheer about, but it was a very interesting view, and at first I felt like Bob Uecker in the classic Miller Lite commercial (only with the seat really being in the front row). sgtcluels, it was nice to meet you, and I hope your injury heals quickly and completely. bball123h, I'm sorry I missed you. Brewers, please hit the reset button (except Ryan).
