  1. Cmon Helms, I dare you to pull a Branyan and hit one out. Yeah, I'll take back (almost) everything I've been thinking if you become the he-ro, Wes. Edit: Never mind. I'm thinking it all again.
  2. Still out there, RoCo? Maybe it hasn't been 10 minutes yet... Edit: Whew.
  3. Our defense continues to stink it up since the all-star break. AJAY, you're being too kind. Lordy, what's it take?
  4. Michael Barrett just missed a dinger. I wish Moeller could do that once in a while. Moeller did that once. What more do you want? And for those of you who have been to the park since Branyan came on board : does his videoboard picture look kind of like John Jaha, or what?
  5. Having just returned from the game... Another big relief and (overall) decent outing. Maybe a high LOB count is starting to seem normal. I had to dash to the concourse to see the complete path of Hall's triple because our seats don't provide a view of that corner. Imagine my pain upon seeing Sammy scramble to pick that ball up. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Cubs fans were still in the majority (60-40? maybe I'm just hopeful), but the ones around us were okay this time - and for anyone who read my ranty post earlier today about not being ready for tens of thousands of Cub fans, that's saying quite a bit. Obviously it helped when the Brewers took the lead, but I didn't feel harassed at all, for once. We did hear about one fight on the terrace level concourse - guy didn't like what his lady was saying so (of course) he threw beer in her face - but otherwise things were practically mellow, for the royal blue scourge, at least. Oh, and I chuckled when I read one of RoCo's earlier posts, 'cause it occurred to me repeatedly: [NO FREAKIN WAY does Helms make that play] Now on to Wednesday night and the No Run Support Classic (Sheets vs. Clement). Anyone else anticipating 0-0 in the 21st?
  6. Well, this is just the springboard you want heading into a Cubs series. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  7. Lenny Harris is the most prolific pinch-hitter of ALL TIME. It's so nice to be reminded.
  8. And no, the Gumby bobblehead isn't the best ever. At least on mine, the paint job is pretty crappy. Ah, geez. A piece of crap bobblehead (no offense, Gumby) to go with a piece of crap game. One of my officemates was hoping to go with her sister, and since they are Twins fans I figured it was worth asking if they were looking for a more appropriate home (i.e. mine) for the bobbles. They might still go for it (if they went at all), but I almost hate to ask after what they would have sat through.
  9. That Gumby bobblehead had better be the best. bobblehead. EVER. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  10. Well... Who'd have thought that tonight's pitching trouble would NOT have involved Obermueller? My hat is tipped to lil' Wes. He got what might well have been a Kinneyesque last chance and (unlike Kinney) made it work. I gave him a personal standing ovation after each successful inning, plus one for his hit. Solid crowd tonight (35K, and without the bobblehead draw of Saturday and Sunday) which was moderately into the game. We actually got some people in our section to do the Overbay "O" with us. And lord-a-mitey, was it nice to see Russell instead of Big Wes. I tried to keep track of the number of "no way would Helms have made that" plays, but I lost count.
  11. Do you all know what this means? It means that useless piece of human debris called Wes Obermueller will get to battle through 2 or 3 innings on Saturday night. This statement is prompting a variety of emotions in me right now: - Relief : You mean Obie's not pitching Friday? That's our next game and I was just resigning myself to his starting then. - Skepticism: You think lil Wes would last 2 or 3 innings anymore? - Curiosity: So who is due to start on Friday? - Doubt: Is it fair to call lil Wes a useless piece of human debris...when, baseball-wise, that applies so much more aptly to big Wes? (Note that I specified 'baseball-wise', folks. Baseball-wise only. I'm sure they are fine men otherwise.) - Awe: Calling a Brewer a useless piece of human debris (even just baseball-wise) reminds me of a stunning tirade that gregmag posted against Sal Bando last fall. I believe he called Bando a horrible excuse for a carbon based life form, and more besides that. Based on that statement, gregmag and I may be Brewers soulmates. Now I'm emotionally spent.
  12. Viz in the 7th? Taking a pitcher out before it's too late? Taking out Big Wes? Whaaaaaa? (Hope I'm not speaking too soon.)
  13. Are you still having "fun" at the games???? This organization and team makes you wonder at times why you even go. Oh, we still have fun. The fun we (all) had prior to the all-star break - of on-field action that was truly enjoyable for the home team - was better than the "fun" we had today (standing ovations when Dave Burba actually completed some 1-2-3 innings; hoping Mike DeJean would see action so I could really get my heckling game on; and the weather was about as perfect as you could want for baseball). We also have come to know most of the Brewers staff (ushers, etc) assigned to our section, and we genuinely enjoy catching up with them. We don't have seat nazis in our part of the park. I was in a worse mood when I sent my previous post than I am now. I entered the 2004 season hoping I wouldn't feel like I had to defend my choice to buy season tickets (like I've sometimes felt in 02 and 03), and in the first half of the season I was pleasantly surprised. Today's game was the worst all-around I have seen in person this year, hence the tone in my first post. Plus those preteen girls screeching behind us got irritating at times. Not like the Dime Family from June (I bet Shampoo4U remembers them), but too loud at times. I like an occasional weekday game, but only occasionally due to those kid crowds. It was redeeming to see a small group of preteen boys try to launch some counter-chants toward the end of the game.
  14. Someone feel sorry for me - I was at today's game. What a crapfest. Once the score was 0-6 within 20 minutes of the first pitch, I had this bad flashback to that Dodger game in '02 (?) when Shawn Green had the four homeruns. Much like what Glendon Rusch experienced that day, it was instantly obvious that our Victor didn't have it. Honestly, couldn't someone try to keep Santos out of the day games? Is he not night-and-day enough? And that was before the Brewers' defense had a chance to, um, shine. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif Also before the Kinney cameo. That was when I took a walk. (Note to Ned: Try Burba first next time. Could it make matters worse?) As Batman once said, "bad yuck boo." It's worth something that the home team actually put together some hits + runs, which they didn't do in response to a huge early hole in 2002. But today I'm tired of searching for the nuggets of moral victory. For those of you who had audio access: Did you hear the nearly constant chants of "Strike Him Out", "Get a Hit" and the like? That was the huge group of youngsters right behind us. I don't know how those kids had any voice at the end of the game. I appreciate their enthusiasm to an extent, but not once I can't make myself heard to the person sitting next to me. OK, I'm done. Thanks for the rant time.
  15. "I can't see getting so mad about Daron/Bill,it's not a new thing that they blow and are about as bad as it gets." The usual Daron/Bill is one thing. Daron/Bill staging a lovefest for the opposing team's pitcher is another. It's like they were trying to be the anti-homers, and the Brewers get enough of that with the Cubs fans. Let's hope Greg gets his 300th before August 16. I'll be on vacation starting Wednesday morning; maybe the Brewers will wake up in my absence. I'll think of bf.net every time I see a box score with "Helms" or "GIDP Jenkins" in it.
  16. Do you think hyp-mo-tizing the Brewers would get their RISP bats back? I'm running out of ideas.
  17. You know what I really detest? Having the game on the radio in the next room, hearing a big cheer, and realizing it's probably *not* for the home team. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif
  18. They won't have to. Overbay's gonna double and Clark's gonna go yard. Hey, halfway there.
  19. It's better that we surrendered the lead here because now the offense will be able to get a late inning, clutch win. Scrap Iron vs. Battlin' Ned. So what does that make this - the Scrapple Series? Never mind. Batman's right, though; you'd think it would be a boost to win one by scoring late. The score early + hang on script is okay sometimes, but wearing thin lately.
  20. ...I off handedly predicted 6 runs for the Crew tonight... RoCo, I assume you're going to revise that?
  21. Gary Bennett will be at the Uecker line before we know what "hit" us.
  22. Why does this make me think "out of the frying pan..."? I know, he has no inherited runners this time. But. Arg.
  23. So, Gary Bennett *owns* the Reds? Or at least Harang?
  24. Insert your favorite "split" image here. Good work today.
