  1. I don't think this is accurate. He wasn't that highly regarded, certainly nowhere near where Lindor and Betts stand, at the time of the trade. He exploded after coming to MKE. He was a good, young player, I don't think anyone thought he was a cornerstone guy at the time of the deal. Fair point. Some people even hated (or disliked) the Yelich deal, and thought we gave up too much. Some still do! :D Point is, of course, there's still trades out there to make.
  2. This seems to be the running theme this off-season. "the Brewers aren't spending the money I want them to spend on the guys I want them to spend it on, therefore David Stearns is a poopy-head stupid-face". The Brewers are, and always will be a franchise with limited financial resources, *No matter how much people don't want them to be*.... even when we have a star player like Christian Yelich. When we have a Yelich, or a Braun in his prime, or whoever, that doesn't mean the owner is suddenly obligated to lose money for three years to field whatever some blog writer thinks is his (or her) version of a "competitive team". Stearns has shown in the last three years that his method gets the Brewers into the realm of competitiveness. We were ONE game from the WS. That's all you can ask. The Dodgers spend money hand-over-fist and haven't won a WS despite 7 straight division titles. Once you get to the playoffs it's a straight-up crap shoot, so I honestly don't care about the "well the Brewers haven't won it all" argument. It's December. December. What does the dude have to do to earn people's trust that he has a plan? He's probably/possibly got more moves up his sleeve, eh? Yep. Rendon is off the board. He was NEVER on the table for us. Strasburg was NEVER on the table for us. I won't say that the Brewers will NEVER sign a guy like Rendon....... but, they shouldn't. If they're being wise with their cash, they shouldn't sign a Rendon. Or a Strasburg. Or anyone to a 275 million dollar plus contract when they're going to be 38 and putting up a .3 WAR. If Ryon Healy is our opening day 3B I'm gonna be disappointed. That means Stearns mis-read the market. Or one of many trades he had in the works didn't materialize. But I'm probably 75% sure that's not the way the rest of this off-season is gonna shake out. I think it's too early for these kinds of reactions. I know blog writers/sports rags have to fill their quotas, but this off-season is just full of people screaming about Stearns to "DO SOMETHING" and I feel like he's been pretty busy, and he's honestly been following the MO that he's set all along since he's been our GM.
  3. Holy cats, Gennett had 2 walks (two) in 139 plate appearances last year. Like.... you have to be actively attempting to avoid getting on base to only draw 2 walks in 139 PA's. He's always had a relatively low walk rate, but that's something else entirely. .568 OPS and a -.7 WAR. That's absolutely someone who should get a "prove it" contract.
  4. Even if there were a place for him on the team, there would be absolutely no reason at all to throw 4 years at the guy. Never mind the fact Stearns has shown almost no interest in going multi-year with almost nobody but a very select few guys. I absolutely can't see going multi year with a guy who doesn't have a position. And 3rd base is not a position for Gennett.
  5. Healy is the definition of "just a guy". I'd wager the chances of him seeing more than 100 PA's in Milwaukee are entirely contingent on multiple guys getting hurt. I'm not super excited about the possibility of him getting a lot of playing time, but at the same time, there's worse options out there for backup plans. You can't just stash a bunch of proven, 2-3-4 WAR guys in AAA in case all your starters go down. That's just not how it works. Healy hits for a decent bit of power, plays both corners, and uh.... yeah. He's AAA filler. Let's not get too up in arms about this.
  6. Yeah, this. There's already people saying that Garcia could hit 30-35 (or even 40!) homers in Miller Park. I remember way back when we acquired Carlos Lee, at least a few people said he'd hit 50 homers hitting in Miller Park. It just doesn't quite work like that.
  7. Made it interesting at the end.
  8. I've seen a few of these overlays. A couple things. The Brewers don't play all 162 games at home. (which everyone knows) As much as it seems like moving to a "hitter friendly park" seems like a guy should just hit more homers, it doesn't seem (perception at work here) like it usually works out that way. These overlays are neat tools and all, but I'm' gonna go out on a limb here and just say I don't think garcia is a 35 home run guy. I'd be pleased if he hits 25, and leave it at that.
  9. To be fair, I doubt ANYONE who did a pre-draft write up on Yelich in 2010 figured he'd project out to be the best player in the NL. :D
  10. Nobody helping Giannis tonight. Pretty disappointing when you consider the Mavs without Doncic are really beatable.
  11. If he puts up an .849 OPS... how does that play at third? Crew signs Thames to handle first... ss: Urias 2b: Hiura lf: Yelich rf: Garcia 1b: Thames 3b: Braun c: Narvaez cf: Cain pitcher Just saying... it's an option. Braun at 3B is definitely not an option on the 2020 Milwaukee Brewers.
  12. Thanks. Is that projection based on him being with the Rays? I think he can have better power numbers with Miller Park as his home field.... I'm not certain on how Steamer projections work, but even 23 homers would be a career high. I wouldn't be unsatisfied with that.
  13. Which almost certainly means we are out on Donaldson. I don't dislike this signing, not one single bit, but if getting him means we can no longer even consider Donaldson, then this hurts me, inside... If it makes you feel any better, I doubt we were ever really in on Donaldson.
  14. That's what's really interesting. WHen someone signs a free agent for 4 years and X dollars, a lot of people say "We could have signed that guy for X dollars plus Z!" First of all, the guy has to WANT to come to Milwaukee. I don't think people understand how much of a role that plays. You hear the "they'll go where the money is" line quite a bit, but man..... some people just don't wanna play here, or look at the Roy Halladay thing. Location matters to these guys. Stuff matters.
  15. The NFC playoff field, whoever is in, is going to be ridiculously stacked. Even the Rams, who could be left out, are a really good team. Either the Eagles or Cowboys are going to get a first round playoff game, but realistically are going to be heavy underdogs to whoever the 5 seed is, probably the 9ers, if they lose to the Seahawks in 2 weeks. The Packers (if they win out.... ) will likely be playing the winner of a Saints/Vikes matchup, so we have to assume the Saints would be coming to Lambeau. I'm honestly ok with that matchup in GB in January. So if we can somehow get past the 'aints, we're getting whoever is left standing between the 9'ers and the Seahawks. I'm not even considering the Eagles/Cowboys at that point, though it would be pretty amazing if they could sneak that far ahead.
  16. I mean, we're all going to do the same thing and hope for the best. We're all in the same boat. I don't think it's a zero percent chance, just a low chance. I don't think it's negativity as much as an honest unbiased evaluation of what is seen. It's not negative to be negative. No one is trashing the Bucks right now just to be negative. If we're having a different discussion in 6 weeks, I'll be very happy about it. It is a message board, we really all are just talking heads who don't get on TV.
  17. I don't know what else to say. I've said the 9'ers are NFC favorites. I've said (repeatedly, repeatedly, repeatedly) the Packers have some serious flaws. Should I just not watch the games and say "WELP. Gonna lose anyway!!" I don't know what else to say to this rampant negativity. The Packers are 11-3, gonna make the playoffs, and the other contenders have flaws. Do I think the Packers WILL win the NFC? Nah. Do I think they can? Do I think that in any given year, a team with flaws can get hot and run the table? Yes. 2007 Giants got kinda hot at the right time, eh? When I see at least a handful of posts in every game thread that say the same thing, week after week "One n DOne/won't win a playoff game/The 9ers, saints, seahawks are better than us", I honestly, all sarcasm aside don't know why people are watching this team. Like, is there honestly no hope for those fans that they can win a playoff game against these teams? ZERO percent chance? I agree, the 9'ers are better than the Packers. 100% agree. I still think come January, I'll waste my time and watch the game if we match up against them in the playoffs and see if we don't get a different outcome. Good times....
  18. Im completely satisfied if they win out and get a 1st rd bye
  19. It really is a nice reminder that these teams that we all think are so much better can lose a bad game here and there too. Falcons were 1-7 at one time. They are 4-2 since. I wouldn't say this was a bad loss for them. It's a 5-9 team. If we're going to call the Chargers and Eagles games bad losses, this is a "bad loss" for the 9ers.
  20. Do we have tiebreaker over Seahawks? 9ers still have to play vs Rams and @ Seahawks. If the Packers win out, there's a good chance they'll be a game ahead of the 9ers but tied with Seattle.
  21. So now..... are the 9'ers fans saying "We won't get out of the 2nd round" after choking away a lead to the Falcons in the fourth quarter?
  22. Nobody has said anything about this deal being regrettable. you're arguing with yourself to make a point. You've been asked by multiple mods to stop bringing this payroll argument to every thread you post in. Just in the last 2 hours you've derailed the Garcia thread, tried to derail the Kluber thread, and brought it here unabated. If you want to talk about the payroll, there are threads about payroll. Stop derailing every thread with this payroll rant.
  23. Now you're coming around!! Still room on the bandwagon for you!! :D
  24. That got closer than it should have.
  25. Lafleur said "Oh my God, really?", so it's something bad.
