  1. As grisly as he's looked at 2nd base, I'm gonna give him a pass on that, with it being 30-some degrees tonight. Gotta be hard to get a good handle on the ball on a quick exchange like that.
  2. I'm not pessimistic about getting a deal done with Kimbrel. At this point, I'd rather they don't.....
  3. I get what youre saying...
  4. This tourney has had some good games but not a lot of drama in the way of Cinderella teams. I know this is the Red Raiders first final four but they are a 3 seed and a really good team this year, plus Gonzaga just has a habit of choking in the tourney more often than not so that really wasn't all that unexpected. Really looking forward to another final four with Duke and Kentucky.... (Blue)
  5. Same as many others, I check the link reports maybe not every day, but quite a lot during the regular season. Feel bad for simply not saying I appreciate the work that goes into this. I have a twitter, but I absolutely don't use it more than 3-4-5 times a month, so link report is my go to for Brewers minor league stuff.
  6. It's not a given Kimbrel will sign a one year deal. Even for 20 million. Maybe Kimbrel just doesn't want to play in Milwaukee. It's not as simple as saying "here's 1/20 or 2/40" and having him jot a name on a dotted line. He has to want the contract and has to want to play in Milwaukee. For all we know, he may be mentally prepared to sit out a year.
  7. He must have hit it hard... but right at the Cardinals shortstop. Can we get Hiura up and Moose at short yet? No. No we can't get that.
  8. "What people do not want are ex-players taking the persona of grumpy old men on baseball broadcasts." This is what Schroeder comes off as about 3 times per game.
  9. The 2011 Brewers were 16-21 on May 11th. The 2008 Brewers were 23-27 on May 25th The 1982 Brewers were 22-24 on May 31st. All three of those teams made the playoffs. Granted, they weren't ten games below .500, but that's well into May with losing records.
  10. It's fine for the in-game threads to be "one liner" posts and emotional reactions. I think (and know) that where a lot of people's issue lies is where they become overwhelmingly negative. We can have an error or bad play and have 24 posts about what an idiot/bonehead/moron player X is, and then a big homerun or great play, and 3 posts mentioning how awesome the homerun or great play was. Again, people can post what/how they want (within the community guidelines), but when there's a lot of posters saying to the mods "wow, the game threads have become overwhelmingly negative and just aren't fun to post in anymore", it's the mods duty to look into it and say "yeah, 33 posts about what a moron Counsell is for a certain pitching move or bullpen management or how awful player X is or repeated use of words like "moron" and "idiot" in reference to players we all want to root for can make a game thread kind of tedious. When someone then says "this is getting a bit old to see the same posts night after night", and then THAT turns into personal attacks and tit-for-tat back and forth nonsense between a bunch of grown adults who can't talk about baseball without saying "I HAVE TO BE EMOTIONAL WHILE WATCHING SPORTS" it gets kind of silly having to say "Can we have a fun game thread that people want to post in?" I don't think that's a lot to ask. I don't think anyone is saying that the game threads shouldn't be impulsive, crazy, emotional or anything else, it's just that they read as overwhelmingly negative, even in a season when the Brewers won more games than any team in the NL, and won a division crown.
  11. All this talk about pace of play, and that travesty of an at bat is allowed to happen. How many time outs were called during Braun's at bat?
  12. I love how even with the bobble, Molina was still out by like 6 steps.
  13. I still remember in about 2010 when BA said on the air that he believed that instant replay had a place in baseball and Schroeder asked him if he was some kind of sadist. Bill's a dinosaur. I just spent a little time digging through the stats, and in 1978 (forty years ago!) the average NL starter went 6.4 IP. Bill thinks the game is changing in some major fundamental way, and it's not. I guess that's what I love about Ueck. Even though he loses track of the in game action at times and really should have a full time in booth partner to call the action, Ueck really seems to enjoy and embrace the subtle changes and modernization of the game. Guys like Schroeder want the game to be the same as it ever was, when really, the changes that have taken place over his lifetime are pretty slight and subtle.
  14. Schroeder says "6 innings from your starter is about all you expect *these days*" in a snarky, almost derisive tone. In 1998, the average IP for NL starters per game was 6.1 innings pitched. Six innings has been the standard for more than 20 years.
  15. Playoff basketball is played differently, with smaller rotations. There's no scenario where I won't not be concerned about Philly or Toronto (or especially GS). I have no doubt that the Bucks should be absolutely heavy, heavy, heavy favorites in the first round over Miami or Orlando, but a 2nd or 3rd round series is by no means a gimme.
  16. I watched it as well, and Holbrook doesn't make the call until the SS peels off, and either stumbles or loses sight of the ball. That is absolutely a horrible call at that point. If Holbrook makes the call as the SS is backing up and tracking the ball, fine. I would have agreed with the call, even if the shortstop fell down after the call was made. It doesn't matter that it's 75 feet out into the outfield grass, but he makes the call as/after the SS stumbles/loses track of the ball, which doesn't at all jive with the notion that infield fly should be called when an infielder should easily be able to secure the ball. At that point, it wasn't at all clear that the ball would be caught by anyone (which, as it turns out, it wasn't).
  17. I should never feel leery when the Bucks beat the rockets by 14 points, but Middleton taking 23 shots to score 13 is not good. Luckily everyone else's shots were falling. I know the philosophy when guys are missing is to just keep shooting and eventually they'll fall but six for 23 is a horrible night
  18. Oh boy the original arguments here.... Jeffress is horrible for being a pothead. Braun terrible for steroids... who cares? Get off your high horse. If you haven't smoked weed before, I feel bad for you. I wish him a speedy recovery and a long, lucrative contract. Marijuana has so many potential positives that the older generation keeps denying. I'll stop there. I'm not sure a single person called Jeffress a horrible person (or even subtly hinted at it), so I'm not sure what you're getting at. I think some people weren't sure if his MiLB suspensions carried over (which is a valid concern. Should pot be illegal? Should MLB test for it? Those are arguments for a different forum. The reality is that MLB does test for that substance if they feel it's warranted, and that's the rules. It's a valid question to bring up for those that may not be 100% aware of how the rules work, and absolutely nobody said that he's a horrible person, or questioned anything other than how his past may potentially put him at risk of being on the field. I think that's valid, and those questions have been answered.
  19. The ref that steps over him and casually kicks the foot on his clearly broken leg should be fined 5 bajillion dollars, and then fired. Unbelievable.... Every single player just "noped" and walked away. It was that bad.
  20. If I'm Stearns and I've decided that Kimbrel (at his price) isn't what the team needs, and Mark A comes in and says "pay it/do it/get it done", and then Kimbrel flops, and there isn't any money left to do my job at the deadline because we spent money on the big FA reliever that the owner wanted, I'd be extremely pissed. Stearns has a vision for how he wants to build this team. Mark A hired him because he trusted Stearns' vision. Stepping on his toes in this manner disrupts the entire process and the vision.
  21. I'd like to see JJ stay a Brewer for as long as he's effective and at a fair rate. The pot use doesn't even hit my radar. The fact that mlb and NFL still demonize players for medical use is silly (IMO).
  22. In these operating expense numbers, do the myriad of coaches, support staff, front office staff, scouts, and many, many other people required to run an MLB franchise not get paid? Saying "income minus MLB and MiLB payroll and taxes = PROFIT" isn't at all accurate.
  23. Milwaukee being the best fans in baseball is not a "Fact", thats an opinion that every fan base of every pro sports franchise shares about its self. No fan base "deserves" a payroll of whatever it takes to win a world series. They deserve a product on the field of professional baseball, which we have.
