  1. I think it's alright to open these threads and say "hey here's some stuff that people said about this trade". As long as it's not done in a really mean spirited way. I've been right, and I've been wrong. I didn't like the Lind trade, because the guys we got back were all no-names. That one worked out ok, (so far), and Adam Lind is pretty much looking for work now.
  2. Baez has a great reputation as a flashy/well regarded defender, so I don't think that's a plus in Yelich's column.
  3. How do you start 30 games, pitch nearly 7 IP per start, have an ERA of 1.78, and have a record of 8-9? I KNOW the answer is "because Mets", but still...... that's beyond belief almost.
  4. This post made me curious obviously. Zoilo Versailles won the AL MVP in 1965 with a .273/.319/.462 slash line. Yuck and a half. Marty Marion won the NL award in 1944 with a .267/324/362 slash line. He must have been a HECK of a defender.....
  5. True, but it's good to learn from mistakes too. A lot of analytics had Yelich pegged for a power surge at Miller Park, and they. Analytics actually didn't peg Yelich for much of a power surge at all. As mentioned his launch angle wasn't all that significant from his swing. Thus simply moving to Miller Park wasn't going to necessarily give him a big power surge. The big power surge was on the assumption he would change his swing to favor Miller Park a bit more. I don't know if that is the reason for his surge or not though. I think that is a fair assumption though, isn't it? If you play in a park that doesn't cater to LH power, why would you go up there and try to hit flyballs?
  6. I just want the Brewers to keep winning (obviously!) so that they can set up the bullpen for a WC game. I'm not concerned too much about who they might be playing, be it the Dodgers, Cards, or Rockies at this point. I'd like to avoid the Dodgers, probably, just to not see Kershaw in a one game elimination.
  7. The only thing I saw was one poster in an IGT call him overrated. I think it was immediately after he bounced into his second double play of the game. Perhaps misguided, but somewhat understandable. I saw (again, not just on Brewerfan), more than a few people question why he wasn't hitting for more power, a lot of comments that were "I thought he'd be better once he got out of Marlin's Park"... nobody calling him outright "bad", just more of a sentiment that he should be a superstar in the making (which he is......of course)
  8. I think around the all-star break, there were people (not just on Brewerfan) saying that Yelich was "disappointing" because he was hitting "only" .290-ish with not a lot of power or RBI's and he was hovering around an .820 - .830 OPS.
  9. How can that be his upside if he already had a better season than that last year? His only season better than that was .277/.324/.407 and it came with a BABIP 17 points over his career norm and it largely came from one huge month. The other dozen or so months of his career showed a much weaker upside. Arcia had an OPS over .700 in every month of 2017 except one. He OPS'd .848 in June, .759 in August, and .749 in Sept/Oct. The only month he OPS'd under .700 was May. So saying that it was largely driven by one big month is not true at all. His homeruns were spread out pretty evenly over the entire season. The month of June he had a nice spike in batting average, and a few extra doubles.
  10. There was an article (don't remember where, sorry), before 2017 about how guys like Encarnacion, Joey Bautista, Mark Trumbo, and Chris Carter weren't getting ANY kind of interest in the FA market, and it basically was centered around "guys that hit homeruns, don't play D, and hit for low average have no market value" EVERYONE hits homeruns now. Homers are valuable, but they're not a commodity, because most players are understanding of launch angle and so on.
  11. Granted, she asked him some .... kinda lame questions. "How does it feel to hit for the cycle???!!???"
  12. People talk about Baez's RBI total, as if that's a huge advantage for him, but he's at 103, and Yelich is now at 93, so it's not like there's even a huge gap between those two players in RBI.
  13. Less than 10% chance? Really? ESPN had it between Baez, Yelich, and Goldschmidt, with the edge going to Baez.
  14. I can happily say that I loved the Yelich trade the moment it happened. I hated the Greinke trade, for whatever that's worth.
  15. Yeah, he's playing well for the Rays. Good for him, glad that he's somewhere that he can get some playing time.
  16. I was just thinking, with a lot of everything else being pretty darn equal, Yelich has provided some really cool "moments" lately, which might just give him an edge.
  17. When that ball left the bat, I thought "Arcia is out at home", but Suarez just whiffs it. Arcia has some kind of black magic hex on the Reds right now........ no other explanation.
  18. That's an ok send, I think. If Hamilton fields that ball, dude has a noodle arm. I'd rather see a guy get thrown out trying to get into scoring position than trying to steal with two outs and the pitcher up.
  19. To keep the narrative going, Braun hasn't been "bad" this year, his batted ball data says he's hitting the ball as hard as he ever has. This year is the epitome of "bad luck" for Brauny. That being said, I do agree that there just isn't a place for him on this team going forward. He's an outfielder only (he isn't a first baseman.... OR a 3rd baseman, sorry Clancy), he is going to miss 30 - 40 games, and he's probably still a slightly above average offensive weapon.
  20. MVP ! MVP ! MVP ! It's pretty hard to be as hot as a guy has for as long as he has. Wow.
  21. I'd like to see them lock up the WC1 with 2 or 3 days left in the season, so they can sit on Burnes, Hader, Jeffres, and Knebel and make sure they are all well rested for a WC game. That would (obviously, I suppose) be the truly ideal scenario. Get 2 times through the order with your starter (or even just 3 innings) and let that bullpen shut down the game for you.
