  1. Got something cooking with our 5 hole hitter coming up! Oh...Saladino...must be the 8 hole. I'd rather have Saladino up there than a lot of our guys right now.....
  2. I feel like Saladino's been pretty good at SS. He had no line of site to that ball (Anderson was shielding his view of it) and it took a big hop on that last hop, so it came up on him as well. That's a really hard play to make. There's no guarantee Arcia makes that play either.
  3. I know this is exciting, but the language/curse rules in the TOS still apply in the game threads. Thanks.
  4. Hey, to be fair... uh.....we have a guy with a .710 OPS and 10 dingers hitting um......cleanup?
  5. I guess what concerns me about Nottingham (super small sample alert) is that he's not swinging at pitches. He's standing there with the bat on his shoulder looking at strikes. So.... I went over to fangraphs, and found His Z-swing % is hovering right around 50%. I thought, "maybe that's average?" but I just randomly picked a bunch of other guys, and just about everyone else is around 67-70%. Like I said, small sample, but that's something I noticed just in the 24 PA's he's put up so far. Get the bat off your shoulder kid.
  6. I think the difference is that nobody here initiated the thread on our own. It was in response to something in the news about a Brewers player. To me that makes it different than the stuff of the political board. A brewerfan.net human poster started this thread... so yeah, someone initiated the discussion in the Major League Forum. So writing here in the Major League Forum about morality, discussion about right vs. wrong behavior, why something is wrong, correct punishment for failures, forgiveness, redemption, and all that is fine here since there is/was a Josh Hader story about these race, sex, and ethnic topics? Didn't see that in your rules.... Take this up in private via PM with a moderator. Any further posts along this line are gonna be deleted. Thanks.
  7. Prior to Melvin's arrival the Brewers had gone 10 years since their last winning season & 20 years since their last playoff season. They were already in the ground. Melvin (& Mark A) made the franchise relevant again & hopefully Stearns can take us to the next level. I certainly don't view his seeming refusal thus far to budge from what he feels is appropriate value in negotiations as a weakness. I would say that it is definitely fair to assess that Melvin both made the Brewers relevant and then attempted to hold on to an aging core too long before rebuilding. That could definitely be construed as running the franchise into the ground by some. Melvin and atanasio never wanted to have a rebuild or punt year, and that probably delayed the rebuild a bit too long. That's okay, he had some success..... it just feels like most folks tend to look at these things in very black and white manners. 2011 was a huge success, imo.
  8. We wouldn’t even be discussing Machado if he hadn’t sold incredibly low on Segura and Scooter. Segura was traded for Anderson, who's pitched pretty well for us, and Isan Diaz, who was part of the Yelich trade. If that's selling "incredibly low", I'll take that every time.
  9. Expecting "Way too much" of a 17 year old is too expect them NOT to tweet that they hate gay people, and tweet hateful stuff about people of color, women, and such? Or to at least DELETE it when they do? If that is "expecting way too much".....I truly weep for our future.
  10. Assigning an intern to review history of all players in the organization and prospective trade targets wouldn't be the worst of ideas. Hindsight is 20/20, but they have a team of social media people who post pictures of dogs and players dancing. I personally think that stuff is idiotic, but if you are going to have these people on your payroll, this type of thing should be a priority over reenacting Dumb and Dumber scenes. Given the alarming rate that this kind of stuff happens with pro athletes, it seems like having an employee/intern keep an eye on social media for this should be at least a low level priority.
  11. "We've all done stupid things" and "He was a teenager" are as dumb and irrelevant arguments as the old adage "People are saying..." He was 17. It was 2011. A 17 year old in 2011 knows (or should know) better than to be dropping hard '-er' racial slurs on Twitter, whether in the form of song lyrics or not. Yes, they ARE a reflection of who you are as a person. Yes, they are a reflection of what you think about people. Leaving those posts up is also a reflection of who is and how he thinks. If he was a dumb ignorant kid in 2011, he's still one now to think that leaving that collection of hate-filled bile on the internet for people to find was ok.... All that said... I hope he's learning from this. I hope he CHOOSES not to be that person anymore. I hope he has people around him (Lorenzo Cain!) who help him understand how those actions (and inactions) present the perception that he's still "that guy". Nobody is a lost cause or irredeemable.
  12. I'm not "outraged". It sucks that they got the #2 pick, he blew out his knee twice, was a decent scorer, terrible defender, didn't do much other than score and grab an occasional rebound, and by his age 23 season, he's walking away and the Bucks get nothing .... no comp, no nothing. No sign and trade.......nothing. I'm not outraged, it just sucks that they (once again) blew a pick on a guy who turned into nothing. I wish the dude all the best. Hope he stays healthy and goes out and averages 23/8 and turns it around. I hope it doesn't lead to Bulls victories.... but good luck to Jabari in his career. He seems like a good guy. Just sucks that the Bucks get absolutely nothing out of a #2 pick.
  13. We are back to strictly defined bullpen roles that cant be deviated from no matter what. Things were going so well when cc allowed himself to he creative.
  14. Knebel is trash. Good lord. Counsell needs to learn how to pull him before he blows games.
  15. I didn't read The Athletic article. What kind of bullying are we talking about here? The Athletic has a paywall. I was going to go in and read it myself, but I'm a cheap old skinflint. I keep in mind that Bud Norris is also the guy that said The players don't appreciate "foreign players" coming into the game and showing emotion and having fun. “I think it’s a culture shock,” Norris said, regarding foreign players. “This is America’s game. This is America’s pastime, and over the last 10–15 years we’ve seen a very big world influence in this game, which we as a union and as players appreciate. We’re opening this game to everyone that can play. However, if you’re going to come into our country and make our American dollars, you need to respect a game that has been here for over a hundred years, and I think sometimes that can be misconstrued. There are some players that have antics, that have done things over the years that we don’t necessarily agree with. “I understand you want to say it’s a cultural thing or an upbringing thing. But by the time you get to the big leagues, you better have a pretty good understanding of what this league is and how long it’s been around.” I have absolutely no doubt that this is a guy who can ride a rookie or young guy all season long to the point that the rookie said the wrong (or right thing...... depends on your point of view) to a reporter or a person who said something to a reporter. I like that he thinks it's over the last 10-15 years that the game has suddenly become multicultural, like they've suddenly 'allowed' it to happen. Roberto Clemente probably rolled over in his grave.
  16. Yup. It's 2018. This stuff is not okay. Apparently we didn't learn ANYTHING from the Richie Incognito saga. Bud Norris should be suspended for a month and mlb should make a statement saying "this is not going to be tolerated" I know, I know "this happens on every team!!!" That doesn't make it ok. It's stupid as hell. There is no need for hazing and bullying. If you think bullying people makes you a good teammate, you're wrong. You're probably also an idiot.
  17. The timing of this is interesting. Story breaking of bad blood between Matheny and Dexter Fowler, and Bud Norris and others basically being a dick.... hazing Jordan Hicks, and Matheny not only allowing it but endorsing it, and now he's fired. I get that they're not good this year, but these stories coming to light confirm what we all already knew about Matheny the manager, he's a Grade A butthole. You can be a butthole if you're a winner. Once the wins stop coming...... that's another story.
  18. Get the #2pick in the draft and by age 23 hes gone and you have nothing to show for it. Awesome.
  19. Boston and Philly will be the teams to beat in the East. Bucks are somewhere in the 4-7 range, I'd guess.
  20. If only Santana and Arcia hadn't decided to take the season off with the bat. Don't forget Pina.
  21. They're 18-17 in their last 35 games. Even bad teams have decent stretches.
