  1. If I ever see David gruber on the street, im gonna push him down because of these annoying commercials.
  2. Knebel looks like a different pitcher since he came back up.
  3. I love this. Teams might "tank" (hate that word), but the players are going out there and busting their asses trying to win those games, even when they're 100% out of the playoffs. In some cases, even cheating!
  4. Funny enough, 36 years ago pet vuckovich won the cy young award with a 2.9 war, while compiling an 18-6 w/l record and a prettt darn ugly 1.500 whip. Dave Stieb had a 7.7 war, but went 17-14, and finiahed 4th in the cy voting.
  5. Miley has been very durable and very average over his career. Before this season he had made 30 starts 6 straight years. But for most of those years he had been slightly below-average or, the last 2 years pretty bad. He's turned it around this year obviously but it's not very many starts. Did DJ work some magic? I don't think the amount of starts he's had is enough to make any kind of determination. With the Brewers payroll I'd be fairly comfortable with a 2-year 12 million or thereabouts commitment but Miley and his agent may feel he's proved himself. He's at an age where he's not going to get another shot at any kind of a big contract so he might be gunning for a 3/36 deal, as that will probably be close to the best I think he can expect from some desperate team, and there's no way I think the Brewers should come close to matching something like that.
  6. Miley probably is what the advanced metrics say he is. He's probably an average-ish 3.5 to 4 era guy. That's fine but at some point the results matter. Right now, the results matter and the results he's given us are barely above a 2 era, and that has been huge for the 60-plus Innings he's thrown for us. I certainly wouldn't go into next year and expect Miley to be a cy young candidate. But sometimes it's nice to look at a guy who for a stretch of time is outproducing his talent level, and just saying wow that was a nice stretch for that guy. It's especially cool right now, because we really needed this from Miley when other starters have faltered.
  7. Man, pour it on here. Burn up every reliever in that pen.
  8. It'd be interesting to see if they could set this up and tell a team they were just "capturing data", and then use it for a game without telling the teams and see what the perception of the called balls/strikes were.
  9. Nice... manufacturing runs tonight. Can't complain.
  10. I'm thinking get him through 6 worry-free, and see where he's at. He's got to be at less than 90 pitches I think to see him go out for the 7th. EDIT: Miley threw 105 pitches last time out, so they might limit him this time out.
  11. https://deadspin.com/brett-phillips-somehow-stays-in-game-after-top-speed-co-1828815524 Brett Phillips eats it hard running into wall at full speed. Somehow, he stayed in the game after this.
  12. Whether he's right or wrong, I don't give a rip what Cole Hamels says or thinks. To get worked up over his comments is silly. Go to the games, sell your tickets, don't go to the games.... everything is each individual's choice, and none of those choices in inherently wrong.
  13. Pina has pretty quietly raised his ops to a semi respectable .720. Considering where he was, I'll gladly take it. He's been solid in the 2nd half.
  14. I don't have a problem with this at this time. Knebel hasn't been useable in any kind of leverage situation at all lately.
  15. Im reading these comments and figured it was like 6 to 0 or something so i go check the score and its 2-0 lol
  16. I wonder how the Indians feel about Aguilar right now.
  17. Hard to complain about five runs in four innings, but 12 hits and nine stranded runners leaves a lot to be desired.
  18. Dozier is not, and won't be a 1.000 OPS 2nd baseman. Schoop is not, and won't be a .400 OPS 2nd baseman going forward. It's completely legit to question the necessity of adding another infielder. If Schoop were added to play SS 4-5 days a week, and you expected him to OPS .750+ for the rest of the year (and he's looked pretty competent at short when he's played there), then it makes more sense under that lens, but I'm not going to say (again) that there is not merit to the argument that we didn't need Schoop. Adding just Moose, and moving Shaw to 2nd, I was initially skeptical of, but Shaw has looked solid, if unremarkable there. The way the Brewers shift and position their players has convinced me that Shaw is capable of manning the position, and I had and have no doubts that Moose is and will be an offensive force in the lineup. I can definitely see why the Brewers brass would be concerned about Arcia's offense, and would want to add more pop to the lineup. I know Perez is a capable defender, and so is Saladino, but I also see the Brewers looking at Schoop's 2017 stat line and knowing that his ceiling is a lot more than you can hope to get out of any one of the three of Arcia, Saladino, or Perez over the next 50 games. I'm not even saying it's the right move, it's questionable, but they're saying it's worth a shot.
