  1. I like the strategy involved, but like others, I simply hate watching (most) pitchers hit, and now having interleague play, I think it kinda sucks, and leaves the NL at a disadvantage. I think there's got to be some way to have a balance between keeping that strategy in the game, and not making pitchers hit, like maybe having the DH go out of the game when you making a pitching change (just spitballing here).
  2. I would agree that the #1 thing that should matter in player acquisition would be talent. I would also say that I wouldn't care about the political leanings of the players on my team, either as a fan or a GM. I also don't even care if the player is maybe kind of a jerk. Bauer (from what I've seen) maybe stretches that line a bit. Telling people on twitter to kill themselves is crossing a line that I'm sure most people aren't comfortable with, and really shows a pretty rough lack of character. What kind of clubhouse presence is this guy? What kind of community presence will he be? How will he react if he has 4-5 really rough outings in a row, and starts getting boo'd by the home town fans? That stuff doesn't matter nearly as much as talent, but it does matter. If I have player A and player B, and the talent level is roughly the same, and player B brings a bit of baggage that has people questioning what kind of person they are, then that's where that kind of stuff should come into play. Are there these kinds of questions around Archer or Darvish, Cobb, or Lance Lynn? I know the talent level is not the same across all these guys, but you (as a GM) have to decide how much that stuff matters in your acquisition cost. It has to be part of the formula at least.
  3. That's what I get for skimming. Happens when these threads get so long. :p
  4. Braun would be a downgrade in RF compared to Phillips for sure, but probably on par if not an upgrade on Santana. Santana had a higher BA, OBP, and SLG than Braun last year. As Santana moves into his prime, and Braun continues to age, I see no reason that wouldn't continue. Santana isn't a good defender, but at this point, neither is Braun. Santana was a 3.0 WAR player. i'd put good money on him being a 3.0 to 3.5 WAR player again this year. I don't know that Braun is going to be that kind of a player going forward anymore.
  5. I think what OP is trying to say is "if Attanasio is willing to spend more, the expectation is that the team should start winning, and Stearns will get a shorter leash" In that same regard, if Stearns provides Counsel with a talent-laden roster, his expectations, likewise will be higher, and he will also get a shorter leash. I think most would disagree with those sentiments, unless DS goes completely off the deep end, builds a 140 million dollar roster, and wins about 63 games 3 years in a row, all while gutting the farm system to do it.
  6. You might want to change that from "plays one inning" to "starts one game". Remember, Carlos Gomez played an inning of shortstop once before. Weird things can happen in long extra inning games, or with late game injury replacements. Braun would probably be first up for middle infield if Villar, Sogard, Perez, arcia were all unavailable for some reason. In the super super super unlikely event that Braun were to play 2B, I'd put a paycheck on Counsell giving him direct orders to not turn any DP's unless the runner was still more than 40 feet away from him. Braun can't swing a bat or run bases without pulling something, or twisting his back, or getting some ache or pain. There's no way they'd want him getting run over in a collision at second turning a double play.
  7. Other than Boston and maybe Toronto, the East is trash. As mediocre as the Bucks have been, with their 3 game win streak, they're only 3 games out of the three-seed in the East now. I'm not advocating trading picks (and/or Brogdon) to go after Jordan, but there's not much keeping this team and the talent they have from having a home series this year. They're not beating Boston, but I would LOVE to see them just end the streak and win a playoff series.
  8. I use Ps Vue and watch a lot of sports through a lot of different apps, but I just have to say that Foxsportsgo is trash. I can watch games through any other app (cbs, nbc, abc, espn) and have no problems, ever, and when I use FSgo, I get frequent buffering, will often have to refresh every 10 minutes or so, and the audio can get out of sync with the picture. I've emailed them a few times about it, and their response is "it's your internet connection" (100mb) or "your computer or tablet is too slow". sigh..... no it isn't. Just something to think about. I've heard other people make this complaint about foxsportsgo as well.
  9. It really can't be overstated how actually tremendously bad he was at 3B. People say "he just made a lot of throwing errors", which is true. But then also his range/zone ratings were horrible, no matter what metric you look at. He judged balls poorly, he had a terrible jump on anything hit his way, he was, by any metric, eye test or any way you want to judge it, a historically bad fielding third baseman. I like that Braun is doing the "good teammate" thing and is willing to move, but the idea of Braun at 2B gives me the heebie jeebies. I could live with Braun at 1B.... maybe? But Braun at 2B is a disaster in the making.
  10. Always liked Cain. Was said to see him go, but understood the necessity of it at the time. Glad he's coming back! He's gonna be getting a little long in the tooth at the tail end of this contract, but I don't feel like the dollars hamper the Brewers financially, so.... I'm ok with this, especially if he keeps producing.
  11. That poor DB. All he had to do was grab his legs and hang on. Push him out of bounds... hold on to him until help arrives, anything. Instead of dipping his head and trying to chuck him with his shoulder with his eyes (seemingly) closed. Unbelievable. I know these guys are the top of the line pro athletes, but that this is the form of "tackling" we still see at the very top level, literally every week, amazes me.
  12. John Henson isn't a starting caliber center, and they don't have a backup center, and they don't have a power forward at all. Their front court is super bad. Jabari Parker coming back probably doesn't help that all that much. We don't know how good he'll be when he comes back. It's one thing to have a superstar and say "carry our team", but to just not have a front court at all is so so stupid.
  13. I can't wait for Matthew dellavedova to not be a buck anymore. There's a big gap between being a hard-nosed physical player and just being a dirty player and he's a dirty player. He's also not a very good player and those two combined make me hate him and hate the fact that he's on the bucks.
  14. One of my gripes with Thompson as well. It often seemed that he was more interested in having trophies for "youngest team" or "most drafted players" than he was with actually putting together a winning roster. I know, academically, that this isn't true, but it sure came across that way at times, and I think that's why such a large part of the fan-base became so frustrated with him.
  15. I don't do "fan theories" very much, but one that sticks out to me is this one. When Hux comes into the throne room, he asked Kylo Ren what happened, and Ren said that Rey had killed Snoke. Also, Snoke had said that he could see Ren's thoughts. My thought is that Rey was the one that killed Snoke with the lightsaber. Just a thought, and maybe I'm wrong, but it's possible.
  16. I'm guessing the Packers picked the guy they wanted, with some (minimal) input from McCarthy. Everyone has their theories, but at the end of the day, unless there's someone here who works in the front office, everyone is just guessing.
  17. I will and I won't blame McCarthy. McCarthy said "we have 3 years of development in this guy!!!" In three years, you guys never saw that he couldn't complete a pass of more than 5 yards downfield? He hampered the offense so badly, that really all they could do was throw dumpoffs to the RB's, and quick hitters to the WR's behind the line of scrimmage. When, after three years of development that's all you've got, and you should KNOW that after three years, that is kind of on McCarthy. I understand that teams aren't going to have superstars for backup quarterbacks, but Hundley is dumpster fire material. If he was a rookie, this would be excusable, but he's not, so it isn't. When we had Detmer, Flynn, Brunell, Hasselback or even Doug Pedersen, it's not like I'd expect those guys to come in and take over a 5-6-7 game stretch and lead them to the promised land, but at least you had the feeling they could competently run an offense and throw passes more than 5 yards downfield. 2. We've known for a while that Dom Capers has no idea what he's doing.
  18. I'd argue that if their starting QBs were out for 10 weeks you would find the flaws on their teams as well. The one season NE went without Brady, they still managed to somehow squeak out 11 wins. The Packers without Rodgers beat the Bears, had to go to OT to beat the Browns, who won't win a game this season (they are, literally, one of the worst teams in history), and needed OT to beat the Buccaneers. To simply say "any team would struggle without their starting QB" is to give a pass to how really horribly mismanaged and poorly built this Packers team is. When Rodgers went down, and McCarthy was asked if the Packers would look at alternative options and he blustered and harumphed through the presser saying "We've got three years invested in Hundley!!!!!!" and we've seen in 9 games that the guy can barely complete anything more than 4 yards downfield, yet Jimmy Garrapolo is undefeated in San Francisco, and Kase Keenum is leading the VIkings to the two seed....... it really shows you how poor the entire makeup of the Packers roster is, minus Rodgers.
  19. ahem.......
  20. I didn't think Hornibrook had this kind of game in him. I thought the Badgers would come in here and win a lower scoring game (like 17 - 14), but do it despite Hornibrook. There's still 8 minutes to go, and let's hope they hang on, but dude has had himself a night.
  21. Hornibrook has been ridiculous in the 2nd quarter. The defense has put them in position to be successful and Hornibrook has been absolutely on fire.
  22. Thank goodness!
  23. So, they've played one bad quarter and that's it? I'm shutting it off now then. Thanks!
  24. I mean, DeAndre Jordan shot 72% from the floor for the season last year on 7.1 attempt a game. Doesn't DeAndre Jordan only dunk? That's actually not that impressive.
  25. This is a trend that is only going to continue. 7 guys pitched 200 innings in the NL last year. The average starter in the NL pitched 5.5 innings. Guys that can shorten the game are going to be at a premium. Relievers that don't give up runs are the new market premium. Granted, that the Wade Davis from 2017 isn't what he was from the previous three years, but I'm sure that's what the Rockies are hoping they get. When you have a guy, or guys in your bullpen that can shorten games because they just don't give up runs, that's a premium, and teams are starting to pay premium prices, both in dollars and in prospects, as we've been seeing the last few years.
