  2. I'm not sure how if there is a way to do something correct more often than the current way, that we shouldn't accept that way. To me, this is like saying "when I go to a fast food restaurant, they get my order correct 90% of the time (that's being generous, honestly), but that's the way it's always been done, so I'm ok with that". No! If there's a way for them to do it better, I want them to implement those ways. If using an electronic system, either in whole or part makes the strikezone more consistent, then I don't care about the tradition or "nuance". These dudes play their butts off for 7 or 8 months out of the year, and to say that we're ok with umpire human error being the deciding factor in even a handful of games is silly, if there are ways to remove that.
  3. The lowly Reds just took two out of four in Chicago. Strength of schedule matters but it's always difficult to just assume that you should win a series or sweeper series or win a road trip or a homestand based on who you're playing. As many others have said how you're playing at a given time matters more than who you're playing against. And that doesn't mean that I think if the Brewers are hot they'll just Waltz all over the Dodgers. I just think we'll see how things shake out over the next 10 days or so
  4. I mean.... The cubs won the first game in the series 15 to 5. I love the optimism, but I have to wonder about your definition of "close". :D
  5. Bolded for emphasis. This is a really good point, and we've seen many times a stretch of schedule where our Brewers are going up against a batch of sub-.500 teams and say "we should go like 10 - 2 or 9-3 in this stretch" and see them go 5- 7 or something or other. It's a tough roadtrip, but hopefully they can come out with a net positive, and the Cubs will stumble over the next 10 days.
  6. I remember a Brave's game, and I think it was ... Chip Carey? Chipper Jones hit a walk off homerun and Carey called it with absolutely a no-frills, monotone voice, it was so hilarious. "There's a fly ball to left. Left fielder going back. He's at the wall. It's gone, and that's the ballgame, Braves win." Super flat, no emotion at all. I bet that was Skip Carey who's voice changed very little with whatever was happening on the field. Skip, thanks!
  7. Yeah, I feel like Levering and Grindl have grown on me, and I much prefer when they're in the booth together, as opposed to the rotational aspect that we're used to with Uecker and his sidekick du jour.

  9. I really don't mind Ueck's ultra-laid back style, it's just frustrating when something's happening in a game, and you can hear people cheering, and you KNOW something's happening, and he's not telling you what happened. Yesterday was a great example of that.
  10. Watching highlights on mlb.com, you really come to realize how tremendously awful most of the announcers across the league's homerun calls really are. I have to say Hawk Harrelson's "put it on the BOOOOOOOOOOOOOARD" is the worst.
  11. Last night Travis d'Arnaud was forced to play infield because of injuries. The Mets flipped him and Asdrubal Cabrera back and forth between 2nd and 3rd twenty-three times, depending on whether there was a right handed or left handed batter up, to try to shield him from having to field a ball. It largely worked, as the only ball he had to field was an infield pop up in the 9th inning. From ESPN: TRADING PLACES The Mets said it was d'Arnaud's first professional appearance at third base -- though he spent much of the game playing second. The Mets flip-flopped Cabrera and d'Arnaud some 23 times depending on the batter and baserunners, hoping to keep the ball away from d'Arnaud. They were largely successful: His only chance in the field was a popup to second that he caught with a grin in the ninth. "I was fired up," d'Arnaud said. "It was fun. ... I wanted to make a diving play down the line, rob someone of a base hit like people do to me." http://www.espn.com/mlb/recap?gameId=370816121
  12. I guess I don't care all that much when we're 55 - 72 and completely out of the race and Ueck is just filling time with his fluff stories, but when we're a game back or whatever and in a one run game in the 8th, I kind of want to know what's going on!
  13. Depending on how the Bucks backfill the bench and depth, they could be the #2 in the East in this scenario. This is a short term thing though, and I don't know how I feel about that. Trade off a ton of depth for a 2 year window at getting to the finals.... I just don't know about that.
  14. The Brewers have more wins than the Cubs.
  15. Sure... But its a little overbearing when one of every four posts is a complaint about a bad pitch call. Extremely repetitive.... Same could be said about villar, Braun, Davis, scooter, pitcher x, reliever y. It's an in game threads. Strike calls are consistently wrong. We aren't creating threads every other day. We simply continue to point out the absurdity of the strike zone...in game threads. Edit: I guess my question is...if we can't express frustration with certain pitches in at bats...where is it supposed to go? I'm not saying you cant.... Im saying be cognizant that several posters are expressing frustration with the fact that game threads are bogged down lately with a ton of complaints about ball/strike calls. Everyone understands that bad calls happen but pointing out every wrong call is probably not necessary, is it? And as others have said, theres no guarantee that any of the many pitch tracking services out there are 100% accurate. I'll be completely honest here, and this is my personal take. Reading game threads this year is like reading Packer game threads on fb. (And im a packer fan) "Bad call. We got screwed. Always happens to us" etc etc etc etc. It feels like with the advent of pitchtrax and gametrax everyone is either suddenly an expert or thinks the umps will stop sucking. Neither of these are true.

  17. Uecker's call on that was unbelievably bad. I still don't know what happened. He has gotten to be just awful. It was three minutes after the play and all I could do was assume by the cheer from the crowd that it was caught. I love Ueck to death but he is awful at calling action as it happens.
  18. Don't forget that dangerous shampoo bottle. My guess is that he was attempting to adapt a core strengthening crossfit exercise to his hotel room, and was ripping up phone books. Regardless of what new imformation comes out, this is what I'm choosing to believe.
  19. Did Colorado Springs make the playoffs in 2016? 2015? I don't know, and I don't care, as do 99.9% of most other Brewer fans. Minor league teams exist for one reason, and one reason alone - to funnel out players talented enough to help the big club. If Phillips can help the big club starting Sept. 1, he should be up. If the Sy Sox need a CF, Michael Reed should be ready to roll in. I would guess if a team is effectively out of a playoff race, they might leave a key player down to help a minor league club in a playoff series, but if you're contending, and it's decided that a player is needed to help the big league ballclub, that absolutely, 100% of the time takes precedence over a minor league playoff series. That's my unknowledgeable take on it anyways. Hopefully when September 1st gets here, the Brewers are in a position where they need Phillips more than Co Springs does!
  20. I think one of the big knocks on Broxton is that he gets terrible reads on balls at times. Sometimes he goes back on balls that are hit in front of him or vice versa and that can definitely cost him ground.
  21. Broxton at -6 is both a surprise and a disappointment
  22. Back to 2 games over, the offense seems to be back on solid ground, and the bullpen did a nice job the last 2 days. Only 2 games out on aug 13th.
  23. I get that every game is pretty much "must win" at this point, but using Knebel for a 3 run save the day after he pitched 2 innings seems dumb. If Swarzak, Hughes or someone else cant be counted on to get a 3 run save, just fold the team.
  24. Im cautioulsy confident that the offense has busted out of its doldrums.
  25. Suicide squeeze. Sogard triple. H. Perez squeezed him in.
