  1. It seems like just "yesterday" that Miller Park was shiny and new. I know the lease for MIller Park runs through 2030. (ish?) I mean, is the lifespan of our park 30 years? Or does this thing only have about 15 years left on it already?
  2. Wasn't Turner Field built on the cheap to be replaceable in a short time frame though? I thought I remember reading that somewhere.
  3. This is ridiculous.
  4. If Santana is not actually hurt, I'd just as soon see Flores get sent down. He's not hitting worth a crap. I know this season is more about developing guys and seeing who fits, who's worth something to the organization and what-not, but at the same time, he's just soaking up playing time while OPS-ing under .600. Send him down and see if he can get right, like Broxton did.
  5. This is excellent. Time for him to sink or swim at the big league level. He's doing everything he can do at AAA. He's 26. He's either going to cut it or he's not. time to find out now.
  6. Monty, you touch on a lot of good points in your post (long post, so I didn't quote the whole thing), but I am going to take issue with this specific, bolded part. Just because that's the way things have always been in baseball doesn't mean that's the way it should continue to be. I know some people are purists, and don't want things to change (and before you say "strawman", I'm not saying "you said this"), but I just don't get the history angle. Things change. Sometimes better, sometimes worse. Sometimes things just change. Throwing a baseball at someone for crowding a plate, for hitting a homerun, for staring at a homerun...... for taking too long to run around the bases, (or running around them too fast).... I don't get it. I never have. That's a part of baseball I simply *don't get*. Some people love it, some people think it doesn't belong in baseball. I'm in that camp. Throwing at people just is not a part of the game I have ever felt was necessary. Baseball has changed a lot in its long history. It will continue to change for better and for worse. For me, personally, I hope that this kind of stuff eventually goes to the wayside. I know it won't, but it's a dream I have anyways.
  7. This bat toss doesn't get the hangtime that Joey Bat's does, but it certainly goes further out of the batting circle, if we want to talk about potentially "injuring" someone. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/10/jayson-werth-bat-flip-grand-slam_n_5122887.html
  8. So many opportunities to win and then tie this game. I don't rag on Counsell too much, but he had a handful of head scratching moves in this game. You already have the man on 2nd. Bunting takes one of your three chances to knock him in with a single. The intentional walk to load the bases......
  9. I look at it this way. Would Giannis have matured into the type of player he is by playing two more years in Greece with the coaches he has there? Or by playing sparingly in his first year in the NBA (with NBA coaches) and learning and understanding the NBA game? Sure, the Bucks spent the first 2 years of his rookie contract basically developing him, but the reward is here now, as he's on the verge of becoming one of the top 15 or 20 players in the league (if he's not already there). If he stays in Milwaukee (which appears likely) long term, the risk/reward is absolutely worth it.
  10. ......after an intentional walk. To load the bases. To get to that pitcher.
  11. When he called the Maldonado pop out, Uecker sounded absolutely disgusted right there. Like he wanted to rage-punch something.
  12. If Peralta and Jungmann had even just been "mediocre" they'd be a .500 team right now, which is heartening I suppose. Davies has settled down, and Guerra (at least for the time being) is pitching well. I expect at some point the league will figure out the 31 year old journeyman, but may as well enjoy the ride while it lasts.
  13. Davis is doing exactly what he's always done, which is only hit homeruns. He has negligible on base skills, poor defense, an awful throwing arm, and he hits for low average. He has exactly one plus tool, and that's power. Not losing any sleep over him hitting homeruns in Oakland, and putting up a .3 WAR in a quarter season.
  14. No, actually, that doesn't surprise me at all. "We know you worked your ass off kid, but if you want to be part of the good ol' boys club, prove you're one of us, and go out there with deadly intent and hit him with a fastball because he hurt our feelings 8 months ago." Actually, that makes *perfect* sense.
  15. Purposely create a god-awful team. Fire manager when team is god-awful.
  16. Brutal would be losing the game after taking a 4-0 lead into the 9th inning. Shutouts are great but they're a more or less meaningless stat in the greater scheme of things.
  17. Yes, being taunted and "trash talked" to is very fun. That's why everyone loves bullies. Football eliminated most celebrations when players took them over the top (i.e. Randy Moss "mooning" the Green Bay crowd and players hiding props in the goal posts to use in their celebrations). I'm sure the concern is that players will continue to try to outdo one another and pretty soon you've got a circus. Do we really want to see players moon-walking around the bases or hiding a cell phone under 2nd base and pretending to call someone to describe the home run they just hit? At some point, respecting other human beings should be considered, and if someone does something to disrespect others, then I can understand when that person/group gets upset about it. And, while some fans may like seeing players "taunt and trash talk," other fans won't want that, and it will turn them off from the game. Personally, I like watching baseball for baseball. I dislike watching someone get "taunted and trashed talked to" in pretty much any situation. That's fine. I can respect that opinion. (For the record, I love bat flips all day every day). Regardless of how a person feels about taunting and the game being "fun" or whatever, the response to being "disrespected" should not be hurtling a hard projectile at 90+ mph at another human's body. That the Rangers are still mad about a bat flip from (eight months ago!) Is absolutely mind bogglingly insane! Was it over the top? Yes. (It was also awesome) Is it worth being mad about EIGHT MONTHS LATER? Good God, no. Is it worth throwing a hard projectile at someone for? For god's sake, no. This is primal idiocy, pure and simple. These guys are worried about "feelings" but they're not worried about serious injuries.....
