  1. I'm not defending Ventura. I simply think Machado is an even bigger idiot. The HBP was most likely because after Ventura pitched him inside earlier in the game (totally legitimate to do that), Machado stood to admire what turned out to be a warning track flyout. So it goes back to "you watched a flyball....my feelings were hurt, now I will physically assault you" That's idiocy in its purest form.
  2. That's just it though. Pitchers can hide behind the ole "I was just throwing inside" line or "It got away from me." IMO, there's no reason to ever drill a guy. Work inside, back him off if you want but intentionally nailing a guy is just plain stupid. It's definitely stupid, I just don't think it gives Machado an excuse to be even more stupid. He wasn't defending himself, he was retaliating because he was angry. I'm machados first at bat Ventura buzzed him up and in 3 straight times. Unless there's some history nobody knows about, there's no reason for this. Should Manny have charged the mound? Nah. But it wasn't just one pitch. Ventura was going up and in over and over until he got a reaction. If Ventura had "just" hit machado with a pitch that would be one thing but he was throwing at him multiple pitches in a row. Like others have said, the pitchers get to stand out there and fire a ball at the guy consequence free.
  3. Ventura is a punk and a hothead (so is Machado..... but that's another story) What this video doesn't show is that in Machado's 2nd inning at bat Ventura threw three straight pitches up and in...... not just inside, but way up and in. Then he comes in on his next at bat and just crushes him with a 99 mph fastball. This whole "poor Royals, we're getting picked on" thing is done. They've been playing that card for 2 1/2 years now.
  4. This is why umpires will be replaced by robots.
  5. Well....there's a chance that he pitches like pre-2015 Garza. If he does, he has a fair amount of value. At this point I think there's almost no chance that Wily reverses his misfortune by simply continuing to go out and start every 5 days.
  6. Pitching peralta every 5 days and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity
  7. Normally, I hate the "acquire guys so we can flip them" process, because there's an inherent risk for multiple reasons. (poor play, injury). As well as Hill has been playing, I think there's a real chance that Hill can turn into *something* at the trade deadline. I don't imagine he's going to get a huge return, but he could net a low level prospect.
  8. Segura has been alright for the D'Backs. Hill has been surprisingly ok for the Brewers. Anderson has been really up and down, but has done alright. I'd say this trade is one that both teams can say they got what they wanted.
  9. Sure. After (x) number of years (and I'm not going to go look it up) they can become minor league free agents. The Phillies kind of hosed Ryan Howard by keeping him down (because they had Jim Thome) and well.... he's kinda hosing them now, so it all comes around in the end.
  10. I had DirecTV, and every. Single. Time. It rained, there were service issues. On top of that, after one year, the package went up almost 80% in price, and there are fees for everything. When I had a card go bad in one of the receivers, they tried to charge me for an entire receiver replacement and it took 3 months to sort it out. When I finally cancelled service with them (or tried to), I had multiple reps hang up on me when I mentioned I was trying to cancel service, refuse to transfer me, and try to over-charge me for things I had not received. I never did end up getting back the partial month credit I was promised would be mailed back to me, but I decided not to fight for it, because the headache of going after the $70 dollars was not worth it for the small amount of money. I've had several different service providers, and DirecTV is 5 times worse than any of them when it comes to Customer Service. The user interface is great on the Guide and Menu, and the price is fantastic when you're starting out, but I hope and pray if you go with them, you never ever have to interface with their customer support reps, because that is nothing short of a nightmare.
  11. This is a great comment. A lot of people just jump to the conclusion that you can't add muscle mass without PEDS, and that is flat out false.
  12. I don't get what the McGwire picture proves. He hit 49 homers as a rookie when he was a skinny whip of a kid. I don't get what the Clemens picture (or accusation) proves. He was always a big, thick dude. Clemens taking steroids wouldn't be to make him "stronger", it would be for recovery, especially as he was pushing into his late 30's and early 40's. I can't for the life of me imagine why a pitcher would want to have bigger, thicker arms. that makes no sense whatsoever. Clemens doesn't look any bigger in either of those pictures.
  13. Because Bradley is not on the 40 man, this topic would go in the minor league forum. Thanks! viewtopic.php?f=64&t=34112
  14. Milwaukee Brewer Verified account ‏@Brewers Minor-league LHP Jed Bradley has been traded to Atlanta in exchange for a player to be named or cash.
  15. I looked at Peralta's last 28 days, and he's been pretty brutal lately, as much as he was in April. I think I'd make the argument that if anyone is deserving of a demotion, it's Peralta (if they don't make up a phantom "injury" for him that is)
  16. Davies has been pitching pretty well lately, they'll probably ride Guerra until the league figures him out, and Peralta has been pretty horrific from the start of the season until now. In fact over the last month Davies has been pretty stellar. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=davieza02&year=2016&t=p I don't know what can be done to help turn Peralta around... but just going out there every 5 days and doing the same thing he's doing isn't working.
  17. Villar now leads the NL in steals, is 2nd in doubles (tied), is 10th in OBP (.406) and is 8th in walks. I know he makes some mental mistakes on the basepaths, and isn't ever going to be a GG caliber defender, but I like the makeup of his offensive game a lot.
  18. I remember when Gennett hit that homerun off of Bumgarner. "Gennett can hit lefties now!" He's now 2 for 17 on the season off of lefties.
  19. The difference to me is that villar has plate awareness and takes his fair share of walks, and carries a very good obp. Yes, he has his mental lapses, but hopefully those can be reduced over time.
  20. I don't think Perez is faster than Villar.. I just think it was a foregone conclusion once that ball got past Francouer that Villar was going to score without issue, so he probably wasn't going 100%. (Minor nitpick, I know) Five Thirty Eight came out with their most recent power rankings and the Brewers are rated 26th, whoo hoo! (Ahead of the PHillies, I might add) Also, thy now project the Brewers as a 73 win team, with a 4% chance of making the playoffs!
  21. Khris Davis and his 264 obp isn't the difference maker for this offense. Santana has been alright, minus some power. Flores now has his obp over 300. Niewenhuis has been solid. Pressley has been decent as a fill in. This idea that Davis would be some kind of difference maker .... I just don't buy it at all. He makes outs 74% of the time this year. I don't care what else you're doing, that's awful.
  22. This seems to be the case. At the very least, they get a new renovation every ~30 years. Seems weird because Globe Life and Miller both feel pretty "modern," but I'd say the realistic modern feel would go away in 35-40 years...but of course everything moves faster so they'll try to make it a 30 year lifespan. Realistically, these things should be fine for 60-70 years but we all know how well that argument would go over with the teams. Sidenote: I've been to most of these mid-90s stadiums...Progressive/Jacobs feels so old. I felt like Camden and GlobeLife hold up a little bit better. Put it in the parking lot where County Stadium used to be. And then in 2070 or thereabouts, put the next stadium where Miller Park is now.
