  1. Rogue one. I dont belive it has anything to actually do rogue squadron. At least in the "legends" rogue squadron was created after the battle of yavin. Though since thats not cannon, they can try to force something about this either being done by "rogue squadron" or its creation. :p That's what I meant......
  2. Mannfred has already talked about this, and it would be a terrible rule (IMO). Also, I know the data suggests that shifting creates more outs (by a rather wide margin) than hits that it allows. But I would also say that the Brewers (as they're the only team I watch regularly) probably need to do a better job of maintaining the possibility/probability of being able to turn double plays when they're shifting with runners in force position.
  3. Talk about wiggling off the hook.... That could have been way worse.
  4. If he pitches his usual "bad" game, should the Brewers make a change? There might not be any possible change to make accept releasing the guy. I wouldn't feel bad if they did release the guy. Now moving him to the pen might be the best thing if Peralta would be up to that. There is a 0% chance that the Brewers would flat out release Peralta at this point.
  5. Well yes, 5-8 is bad, and projected out it's bad. But the pyth 3-10 is REALLY bad, projected out would be 37 wins. D:
  6. The run differential makes the Pyth. w/l look worse than it should be because Peralta has been absolutely atrocious. However, you can still only lose one game when Wily is pitching (thank goodness).
  7. As excited as I am for Rogue Squadron (man that was a great trailer), a couple of people that I have talked to about it thought it was Episode 8. It took a heavy amount of explaining to my neighbor that this was essentially episode 3.5. "so.......who is this dark haired woman? Rey's sister? OR cousin? Where is Finn and Poe?" I think there's a potential for a fair amount of "casual" fans to be somewhat confused going into this (unfortunately) about where it fits into the timeline.
  8. Great, in depth article. I especially like the gifs that show the differences in the swing from last year to this year. I had to take a look at the stats, and I see DS only has 11 punch outs in 54 plate appearances so far this year. That's WAY down from his rate stat on K's last year. Now.... his OPS is only slightly up (.783 vs. .766) so he's not really producing runs at a much higher rate, but it's also too early to say if this changed approach is a difference maker. I do like that .370 OBP, but lets wait and see if we get the power we were expecting.
  9. Playstation Vue comes with BTN, but (as of yet) does not have Fox sports midwest/FSN. It has FS1 and FS2, but it doesn't carry the Brewers games. I get ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN360, 3 different feeds of the BTN, and FS1/2, but just no Brewers games.
  10. Still only 2 games out of the WC
  11. I really hope Broxton gets it turned around in AAA and comes back up at some point and produces a bit. He's a guy I wanted to see have success and hopefully be a future piece here, even if just as a 4th OF type. He really looked overmatched, which is disappointing, but I just hate that less than 20 plate appearances were used to make this decision.
  12. Surgery for what? The Red Sox made up a phantom injury to put him on the DL. They're on the way to releasing him. I propose acquiring him cheap, then spinning him off next year. Might be able to get prospects out of both deals, assuming he commits himself. People are just assuming that because he's gained weight, that he won't commit himself to the sport. That's like saying that once people become wealthy, they just get lazy...no, they usually keep working their asses off This all ignores the fact that sandoval himself doesn't see his weight as a problem. How can he commit to something when he doesn't accept that there is a problem? If he was an all star caliber player like 2 years ago, I might see the merit to something like this, but as it is he hasn't cracked an 800 ops since 2011, and his fielding is just plain bad. He's at an age and body shape where I wouldn't expect him to trend up. Its just a bad, unnecessary risk to hope he will get in shape AND play well enough to flip AND hope someone will want him.
  13. There's evidence that would contradict how motivated he is. http://www.totalprosports.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Fat-Pablo-Sandoval.jpg
  14. I wonder if LaRoche took his son along with him...
  15. http://deadspin.com/report-red-sox-happy-to-pretend-pablo-sandovals-injury-1770956455 The only solution that would satisfy both sides would require Sandoval spending this DL break conditioning, and return to the team able to recapture at least some of his value so the Red Sox could trade him without having to swallow nearly all of his contract. That’s right: the only thing standing in the way of a player and a team who can’t stand each other being stuck together for the foreseeable future is the possibility of Pablo Sandoval getting in shape. No biggie." It's like they read my mind.
  16. If the starting pitching can at least be "mediocre" I wouldn't be surprised for them to hang around .500 for a while, into June or July. The offense should be middle-of-the-pack, as long as guys like Villar, Santana, and Carter continue to contribute and Gennett's early season surge isn't just smoke and mirrors. We know that Lucroy and Braun will be at least above average, so that's the core of at least an average offense right there.
  17. Here's the big problem. Panda doesn't think his weight is an issue. He's totally comfortable being 330 pounds and calling himself an "athlete". We're not close to being buyers, and getting a guy like this as a "flip" candidate is a HUGE (pun intended) risk that they shouldn't be taking. I'd rather let a guy like Walsh or Cecchini play (and succeed or fail) than pay even half of what Sandoval is owed to be huge and suck for the next four years if they can't find a taker for that contract and gigantic belly.
  18. I read that on Deadspin today. What a really, really, really weird article.
  19. To pile on....... this was absolutely the right call. It's early in the season for one thing, and you're not 100% stretched out yet. Secondly, it was going to take at least 15 - 20 pitches to finish the game, and that's if everything went right. 120 pitches+ is just not a smart way to start the year. If this was a Cole Hamels or a Clayton Kershaw or a Madison Bumgarner, sure if they say they're good to go, you let them stay out there and finish it off. I find myself wondering if some of these more analytic driven front offices and coaching staffs aren't (if they haven't already) working on more advanced systems of limiting pitcher stress. More than just pitch counts and innings pitched but something like the frequency of times a pitcher hits "high stress" pitches, or counting the number of time they go over "X" number of pitches, and assigning values to these things and just tracking it over the course of a season. Not saying it would make a difference in pitcher injuries, but I'd be curious if there's a team or team that's trying this sort of thing.
  20. This is a huge improvement, and it's indicative of the type of players we've acquired to some degree. I don't think they'll average five walks per game (obviously), but I definitely don't think this is just an early season aberration. I think this is the type of players they have.
  21. It does matter when comparing twp players and ignoring one is getting penalized for playing a tougher defensive position. AS for the idea that it doesn't matter if they can play multiple positions if they can't play them well I disagree. It provides versatility to get a good bat in the lineup. Schwarber's versatility allows them to play him and Rizzo at the same time. I don't know about you but I think that matters. I certainly agree that it matters. I said so in my post (being versatile helps with 25 man roster management). The thing you are doing though is using the word "penalize" like people are choosing to add some intangible negative value for his bad defense and you seem as though you want to ignore it because he can play multiple positions. What I'm saying is, it's fine that he can play multiple positions. That does have an intangible value, but after the games are played, the statistics (whether you use WAR, wOBA, batting average, or everything combined), are simply measuring what was done. I'm simply talking about "what he did on the field", and that result will show that his defense is a net minus. Is his bat worth putting up with it? Sure, but that doesn't mean that being able to play multiple positions is a value (In my opinion) when he plays them very poorly.
  22. Being versatile and playing multiple positions doesn't (and shouldn't) get you a net plus if you play them poorly. The only positive that provides a team is 25 man flexibility, but it doesn't provide any value to run differential while that man is on the field, relative to any other factor. WAR is simply a numeric measure of what a player has done, relative to the rest of the league. It doesn't matter if a guy can play 3, 5, or every position if he's not good at them. That doesn't mean that being versatile doesn't have an intangible value to a team as it pertains to roster flexibility, but when you have a guy who's just really bad on defense wherever you put him, you can't say that the defense doesn't count against him. It's still bad defense while he's on the field, and it still definitely counts in a very tangible way.
