  1. I think the reasoning is there's not really a trade partner for a 2nd base-only guy who has to be platooned vs. lefties.
  2. They brought up Wilkins because they needed an "extra bench guy". He's had one at bat. He may get one or two at bats in the St. Louis series, and then he'll be sent back down. So he'll get possibly 3 PH appearances, at the expense of costing ZD 24 grand and a lot of good will. We all understand that's how the business *can* be gamed and worked, and it is a business, but there's times when the tiny little bit of whatever you think you're doing in a business sense isn't worth the human relations hit you're taking for the sake of getting 3 pinch hit at bats in pretty meaningless games.
  3. Like Reilly, I think Braun could have (and should have) taken a much less "aggressive" tone with his initial "I didn't do it" news conference. I also think it's hilarious when I read message boards/comments sections how many people still think Braun "ruined the sample collector's life". As far as I know, that was/is his 2nd job, and he's still doing it, as far as I know.
  4. Wade signed with the Bulls
  5. I realize Wade isn't going to get younger, but he played 54, 62, and 74 games the last 3 years. Suddenly predicting that he'll average 33 games per season is a bit of hyperbole isn't it?
  6. Yuniesky Betancort was not a shortstop, and we did that for a whole season. nn
  7. People that burn jerseys bother me. Being an athlete is a job. Athletes change teams. The star athlete didn't change teams to personally offend you, so get over it. You don't need to burn the jersey and post a YouTube video to show how personally offended you were.
  8. He's "sorry" http://deadspin.com/zack-hample-apologizes-for-ballhawking-at-mlbs-fort-bra-1783128869 If you have to apologize for your hobby, you're doing it wrong.
  9. Hample is a self promoting turd who's "hobby" is hip checking little kids to chase batting practice balls and then bragging about it on Twitter. First he went on Twitter asking for tickets to a game he wasn't supposed to be at, then changed his story and said it was from a "friend who didn't take his girlfriend". It would be semi believable if he didn't change his story after he got called on it. It's one thing for adults to have kid hobbies. I get it. It's cool. But his ultra aggressive self promotion when he gets called out for the crappy stuff he (repeatedly) does.... Maybe he ought to consider where the criticism is coming from.
  10. Call it whatever you want, even his own peers think he's a dirty jerk-bag. http://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/cavs-matthew-dellavedova-voted-nbas-dirtiest-player-in-recent-poll/ And nobody has even posted the gif where he swats Iguodola in the twig and berries (and wasn't even CLOSE to going for the ball). Well. actually he did hit a ball..... I guess.
  11. How in the world does evan Turner get 70 million dollars??? I realize the nba is playing with monopoly money, but this is stupid.
  12. Barf. Please please please let cleveland match this offer. Dellavedova is the dirtiest player in the league. I want nothing to do with him.
  13. When it came out a few days ago that Dwight Howard was seeking 25 million per, I thought he was off his rocker. But if Timofey Mozgof is getting 4/65, Howard getting 24/25 per is probably not out of the question.
  14. Feels like they're trying to get another giannis. Time will tell.
  15. Thanks for posting this! The pitching staff also *allowed* 301 homers, and had a 6.70 ERA. Gary Cavallo allowed a staggering 40 homers in only 116 innings, to go along with a 9.16 ERA, and STILL somehow posted a 7-5 record.
  16. Just watched all the highlights from the game last night. What in the world was Grandal thinking? Braun was way too deep to throw the runner out at home, so his ONLY play was at 2nd. I know the Brewers make some boneheaded mistakes on the bases but I just can't even fathom what Grandal was thinking in that instance there.
  17. Couple thoughts on that..... While the team didn't take a step forward like we hoped they would, the important core players (Giannis, Middleton, and Parker) did take steps forward with their game. The Monroe experience turned out to be a downfall, and hopefully they'll move on from that. The young guys seem to not only like playing for Kidd, but they learn and grow under him. Secondly, Kidd seems to want to be here, and that matters. Milwaukee isn't exactly a "destination" job, so having a coach that not only CAN coach, but views the job as desirable, it matters. Having that continuity for this young group of players we hope is the core of our next contender is important (IMO).
  18. I will root for them to win each game as it comes up, with the understanding that this is not a year in which they're going to compete. I am fully in favor of the rebuild plan, and I would be absolutely against trading young controllable talent this year (or even next year) for one year or even two year rentals to chase a wild card. That being said, I still hope they play well, I root for W's, and while I understand the value of draft position and slot money, I can't root for my team to lose a few extra games for that purpose.
  19. I am absolutely not advocating veering off course of the rebuild, but Houston was 3 outs away from the ALCS. They've got guys this year that are just flat out not performing.
  20. Lollapalooza in 1992. Soundgarden, Ministry, Pearl Jam, Ice Cube, Chili Peppers. I was there and that was one of the best concerts from my wasted youth, lol.
  21. The Cubs have almost a double run differential. This, I say, is absurd. I doubt they can keep it up for an entire season, but....what if? I wonder if this has ever been done over an entire season.
  22. Agreed. Who cares if grown men fight? Because they are grown men. I realize that things are different in the sports world and these incidents will always happen when you are constantly battling for wins and that is the nature of your profession. However I'm going to go off on a tangent a little and just say that in general, day to day situations, I get really tired of the "grown men" I see that clearly are looking for an excuse to get into a fight. I don't like what you said, or the way you looked at me, or the fact that you took exception to my unwarranted rudeness towards you....so instead of trying to settle the issue in some intelligent, non-violent manner, I'm going to prove I'm right by displaying my misdirected pride through brute force. I swear, I go to a local summer festival and at times it's like watching a bunch of cavemen who only react to situations based on instinct and zero thought. What does this have to do with a baseball brawl? Maybe not much, but it all contributes to the culture in some manner. The over-served slob in the stands that sees this "action" on the field, and this has the effect of doubling his levels of testosterone as well as his eagerness to find an outlet for it. God forbid there is fan from the other team in the stands near him. This is why I made the choice to sit in the family section many years ago. I enjoy drinking, but I can live without it for 3 hours in order to avoid some of the behavior I have witnessed in other sections. I had a job interview recently, and one of the questions I was asked was "without knowing how we handle the situation here, how would you handle an interpersonal problem with a fellow employee?" me: "Well, when I worked in construction at a concrete company, It seemed like we had fistfights when we had a problem with someone else, But here, in an office setting, I'm sure that's frowned upon, and I would get fired, plus I'm older and wiser, so I would talk to the person, see if we could work like adults to resolve the issue, and then if that didn't work, I would talk to my supervisor" The two interviewers laughed (probably not sure if I was serious) but it does show how absurd in some ways it is that in certain situations and social settings, physical violence seems to not only be accepted, but expected, when in others, we are totally capable of comporting ourselves like grown adults and using our words to resolve adult situations.
  23. Logistically, there's no difference between a 9 game suspension or a 6 game suspension for a starting pitcher.
  24. When you get drilled with a 99 mph fastball, it's not really your feelings that are hurt at that point.
