  1. Ned Yost earned and deserved his firing after the Shouse/Howard/Burrell debacle.
  2. If we could get a healthy Ramirez, who could play 5 days a week, and maybe 110 - 115 games, I'd wish for a solid .750 OPS out of him still this year. Is that worth 14 million? Probably not, but we have nobody in the system that's going to provide that, and as others have pointed out, any of the FA targets are going to have lots of choices.
  3. Hardy is perhaps the best defensive shortstop in baseball. He is very underrated because he has amazing fundamentals as opposed to making flashy plays. Andrelton Simmons, and I don't even think it's close. Hardy is very good, but he's not in Simmon's category.
  4. I would want to see a really excellent return. Gomez is in his prime years, signed cheaply for two more years, and has put up almost 14 WAR for the last 2 years. He should really get a lot back for 2 years of control at the price he's getting paid. I'm also not really excited about the idea of Parra being the everyday centerfielder. I know Gomez has an "ugly approach" but the last two years he's had a .338 and .356 OBP, and Parra has had .323 and .308 OBP in that same timeframe.
  5. The most important thing for every single guy to do is not make outs, as often as possible. Regardless of what role each batter is supposedly defined to, not making outs (OBP), is absolutely the most important thing each batter can do.
  6. The one thing I can point at that really kills me is the batters (Ryan Braun, I'm looking at you) that step out after every pitch and unzip, and readjust their gloves, zip them back up......etc, etc, etc. YOU DIDN'T EVEN SWING!!! I think the whole thing is just such a ritual for some guys that they just do it mindlessly at this point. It's just part of their 'thing'. The game would lose a half hour without that kind of stuff. Let's get rid of it.
  7. I'm torn between wanting the Royals to win, and wanting Ned Yost to lose for making yet another absolutely boneheaded mistake.
  8. Royals vs PIrates would be outstanding.
  9. 2 managers in 28 years. That's pretty crazy.
  10. I never got the impression Ramirez was dogging it. I just think he's really really slow.
  11. While many agree with this (as do I), with Melvin coming back, I just don't see this as something the team will explore, unless it's July of next year, and the team falls well behind the pack.
  12. Putting together an 83 win-talent team, and then hoping you luck into 7 more wins is just an awful strategy, especially when your manager is Ron Roenicke. I'm not going to write a book-long post about what I think the organizational strategy should be. I just know it shouldn't be putting together an 83 win team on paper, and hoping they can somehow squeeze out 7 - 9 more wins somewhere.
  13. It's not like they had a choice. There was only one team left when the Brewers were left holding the bag.
  14. Not my place, but that dude should be banned for the season-long troll job he put on here.
  15. But hey! We're going to match our preseason prediction of 83 wins! So everything is "OK!"
  16. in a series with the season on the line, the offense scores 3 runs in 3 games. Very sad. What an epic, epic collapse. Not like, "The Giants win the pennant" epic, but it is utterly disheartening none the less.
  17. But he's a good baserunner, because he's fast, and aggressive.
  18. Looked to me like it hit on his cheek, just to the side of his nose. If it caused a cut on his cheek, facial cuts would bleed that much as well. You have to worry about both guys mentally going forward. Stanton won't feel to easy stepping into the box again. Makes me think of Conigliaro (sp?). I sure hope this isn't a career altering injury for Stanton. Loads of talent for that kid.
  19. The only reason the pitch hit him is because his hands moved into the ball when he started to swing. I thought when you swung, the hand was a part of the bat, hence that would be a foul ball, not a swinging third strike. I could be wrong (obviously)
  20. The Brewers aren't like the A's or the Rays or the Pirates though. The Brewers are smack in the middle of the league in payroll. If the Brewers were consistently developing good talent, we wouldn't have to do what the Rays do which is continuously turn over their roster. The Brewers can afford to hold onto guys when they see fit, if it doesn't break the bank. They CAN afford to bring in a guy as they see fit. The Rays and A's and Royals etc, can't operate that way.
