  1. LOL! WHen I saw the thread title, I thought of the "is this real life" kid, and sure enough, there he was in the first reply. Good stuff!
  2. If we had played and lost to the Phillies, I'd have been disappointed, but happy with the successful season and exciting playoffs. If we lose to the Cardinals, I may well be inconsolable for several weeks, and may need medication to get get out of the deep depression that is sure to follow.
  3. I think RRR actually did double switch on a very select few occasions this year. He doesn't do it often, that's for sure.
  4. So the guy never managed in the minors before. He played baseball for 15 some odd years. He's also going to be managing in the AL. So I'll write him up a guide that should get him through his first year. Bat your best hitter 3rd. Bat your next best hitter/power hitter 4th.Your fast guy/OBP guy hits first. You have 5 starters, who pitch about 6 innings.Your best reliever pitches the 9th inning when you're winning by 3 runs or less. There, he's all set to go.
  5. I'm strangely calm. I was extraordinarily pissed last night, and I thought waiting 2 days for resolution would have me on edge, but I'm not, which is unusal. Must be the meds.
  6. So Greinke sucked in his start, Marcum REALLY sucked in his start, and Wolf couldn't possibly suck any worse in his start. What a great time for the starting pitching to completely go to complete hell.
  7. In no particular order........ Jenks' 3 homer game in 2003. The last game at County Stadium. The game at the Metrodome in 1983 in which Ben Oglivie hit a 486 foot homerun off the back wall. The first game in Miller Park........we tried to get in, but couldn't find a scalper with tickets we could afford. We ended up going down to Fuddruckers in Brookfield, getting fish dinners, and asking if we could turn a tv in the corner to the game. We stayed all night, and had an absolute blast. They didn't mind, as long as we bought a few drinks now and then. This past Saturday.......my first playoff game in person.
  8. It's a good strategy in playoffs to pitch your best pitchers. I would be good with Greinke throwing a few innings today as it is his bullpen session anyhow. Just have him throw a session tomorrow if you don't need him. Whatever it takes to win. And I am alright with Wolf starting today, just have a quick hook. Marcum should have been pulled before the Grand Slam. He was struggling and you have a pen, use it. This. I'd sure like to know what was going on between Marcum and Lucroy before that pitch. Ultimately, location is still on the pitcher, and Lucroy was set up inside as it was. That was just bad location there. It doesn't help when the pitcher and catcher appear to not be able to communicate though.
  9. LOL @ calling a bike cop who asks you to leave after one hour (and then doesn't really even enforce it) 'Gestapo'.
  10. A grown adult not just missing the start of an 11 am shift, but missing the shift completely because of 'waking up late.' And the excuse is, "it's not my fault, I was up til almost 5 am, and my cell phone battery died, and my alarm didn't go off". The sad thing is the person that was reciting this was stating it with the absolute conviction that these things were, in fact, NOT her fault. The lack of personal responsibility amongst young adults is appalling. ( I suppose I should mention that this person has been starting her shift at 11 am for 3 years now, on the same 5 days of the week)
  11. I know that I'm a homer, I'm born, raised, live, and probably always will, in Wisconsin. But this sports weekend, going to the game, seeing the ticket prices on Stubhub, watching the Badgers on national TV, and then the Packers.......we're an awesome fan base. We are. You see garbage like this, you see the D'Backs in a GIGANTIC metro area not able to sell out playoff games, and you realize, we're pretty awesome.
  12. I do count calories pretty religiously, in all honesty. I do count condiments (butter, mayo, ketchup). We have made a lot of changes in how we grocery shop, especially in the last year or so. I stay away from, for the most part, caloric drinks, sodas, juices, coffee, alcohols, etc. I'm not 'lying to myself' when I say I'm usually (but not always) coming in under 2,500 calories.
  13. Ohhh, yesterday had to hurt.Hurt? I hope he's got friends and family keeping an eye on him today..........
  14. I guess I don't understand why people are getting on Greinke's case about this kind of stuff. It's not like we didn't know it coming in, that he had issues, and that these weren't things that would just ' go away' because we were winning. Is Greinke's quirkiness, or lack of enthusiasm, or what it seems to me is, inferred anti-socialism interfering or retracting from people's enjoyment of the Brewers' accomplishments? The dude has a mental health condition that he's been dealing with for a long time. Until/unless any of us really understand what it's like to cope with what he's going through, I find it disappointing that people are disappointed in his behavior. I lost a construction job because I suffered (and still do) from occasional terrible migraines, and in a man's world, any illnesses, maladies, or diseases that don't manifest with spurts of blood, bones sticking out, or torn ligaments are still viewed as things that you can tell a man to 'get over it'. Sad.
  15. I need help. I spent 14 years in the trades, 10 years as a concrete wall man. I went a very comfortable 250 (at 6'0 even), and yeah, I'll say it, built like a brick craphouse. I probably ate 3,000 calories a day, but my workload and activity level (I played softball and volleyball, rode bike occasionally), so I could get away with eating, yeah, pretty much whatever I wanted. Then I wrecked my elbow, had TJ surgery, and was out 18 months. Because I didn't change my eating habits, I went up to about 315. I finally got back with rehab to where I could work, but my old company wouldn't take me back, so I got on as a mason tender, and I spent 4 years doing that, and that got me right back into shape. I was back down to 250, felt like I more or less had the stamina of a bull, and could once again, eat without worry. Then when I was 33, we ran out of work, I went to school, became a network/IT guy, and now I sit at a desk all day. I have tried, SAVAGELY hard to change my eating habits. I eat a lot of veggies. I eat less red meat. I have almost eliminated soda. I don't eat a lot of candy/sweets. But I just love to EAT. I enjoy cooking, creating dishes, and experimenting in the kitchen. If I'm full, I find myself wishing I weren't. I am seeing a dietician. She keeps trying to ask me WHY I eat, like, I'm sure she thinks I'm depressed, or sad, or bored. I am not depressed. I think any of my friends and family would tell you depressed is not one thing that I am. I'm not sad, and I'm surely not bored. I always have things to do. Very active with my time. that doesn't always mean PHYSICALLY active, but my time is always accounted for. I'm not eating to fill some void in my life, I just wish I could explain to her, and make her understand, cooking, making food, I really enjoy it, it's like a passion/hobby, and I mean, I'll sit at work for my last few hours of the day sometimes when I know I'll have the kitchen to myself for a few hours, thinking about something new I might like to try for a meal or dinner. And yes, I know that I make portions too big sometimes, and I eat more than I should, but if I LIKE something I'm eating, I won't stop eating after a small portion. Call it lack of self control, whatever.....it is what it is. Maybe I'm mentally ill. Is there anyone perusing this thread that understands where I'm coming from? OH.......and working out. SUCKS. I can't do it. I'm trying, but I can not. Up until I was kinda squeezed out of the mason tender job, I never had to work out to have a big build. My jobs did that for me. This is something I'm trying to force myself to do, and I've bought a bike, and am utilizing once or twice a week, but even that I find boring, becauuse nobody my age wants to just ride 10 - 15 miles even, just for the sake of riding. EDIT: Suppose I should bite the bullet.......right now I'm at 6' and 280. I had a stress test done, my heart is in supposedly fine shape, to my surprise. My ultimate goal is to be 245, and that's something my dietician agrees with. We both agree that to be 245 and not 'fat' though that I'll have to get faithful to working out and maintaining my muscle mass.
  16. What's interesting is that the group of people I went with yesterday had also gone in 2008, and they shared the sentiment that during the game (that 4-1 win vs. the Phils), it had maybe been a little more raucous inside Miller Park in 2008. Maybe. But they said, after the game, DEFINITELY yesterday there was a lot more of a celebratory/anticipatory mood. Let's face it, in 2008, we were happy to be there. This time, there's expectations that we'll at least make a run. If the Crew don't at least win this opening series, it will be considered a let down.
  17. THANK YOU! After the 4th inning, I finally had to say something to the party of 8 in front of us. They were BARELY interested in the game, and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down. There was not a single half inning in which at least 2 members of their group were not coming and going during an at-bat. Absolutely ridiculous. I missed most of both of Fielder's first 2 at bats because of this, and this was really the only thing that was casting a downer on an otherwise awesome day. Most people seem to know that if you are coming or going, do so at least after an at-bat, but not these people. Like I said, they were barely watching the game.
  18. SO much to say about being in Miller Park today.........what an unbelievable day at the ballpark. The pre-game introductions were great.....even guys like McGehee and Yuni, who were (rightfully) boo'd for much of the season got nice O's......and guys like Axford, Braun, Prince, Counsell........it was awesome. Uecker throwing out the first pitch, you could tell he was super pumped about this. The crowd was 100% into this game on every pitch. Yo had the jitters in the first inning for sure, but after that, as you guys obviously know, he settled down and flat out dominated. When Braun threw out Bloomquist at the plate, I thought the roof was gonna come off the place. Then, in the 7th, when GIbson for some INEXPLICABLE reason pitched to Prince and he hit that 600 mph rocket out in right, the place went nuts. They did the "Jump Around" in the 8th, and I got in on my cell phone video camera, and it was awesome. TBS had to love this game, even if the ratings weren't the best, the fans were NUTS all game long. The atmosphere, oh man.........I don't know if anyone else was there, but so cool, and WAY different than what we're used to. On the way out of the park, there were spontaneous cheers of GO BREWERS GO breaking out all over the place, and there was just a very palpable buzz in the stadium all day long that just seemed to grow and grow. I know, I know, some of the more 'wordly' fans of teams that have been there and done that will come in hear and read this and lol at this all and all I got to say is screw off, I'm 37, and this was my first playoff game in person, of any kind, in any sport, and damn, it was special, and it was an absolute fantastic day that I'll not ever forget. We were high fiving people all the way out to our car. I just hope the team reserves their emotional energy better than the fans, because we sure put out a LOT today.
  19. I can get a bottle of 100 aspirin at the Dollar Tree for.........well, a dollar. And they work as good as $2.49 aspirin from Walgreen. That's ONE CENT per aspirin. For a team with payroll limitations, that's the best bang for the buck.
  20. This works out AWESOME. I'm going to the game Saturday, and was going to watch the Badgers on DVR. I HATE DVR'ing live sports events, somehow, it's just not the same. Now I can go to the game, get home in time to watch the Badgers, and I don't care if I watch the Packers on Sunday. They *should* get through the Broncs without a hitch.
  21. My 19 yo daughter wanted a ticket for bandcamp, and they had a one day deal at Lyons where you bought a case of Bud Light, and got a ticket. I was like "well, screw it, I can drink ONE case of Bud to save her $40.00 on a ticket" As it turns out, no, I couldn't. I drank two of them, and that was all I could manage. Awful, awful beer.
  22. Well, I pulled this quote off of a Cardinals forum....... as it stands on paper the Cardinals are the second best team in the NL playoffs, so I don't doubt that they simply consider themselves champions.
  23. I think it's fair (and important) to note that seasons don't end like this very often. I'm not advocating adding a wild card, but this season here in 2011 shouldn't be used as the example of why we shouldn't add one. We could easily see a scenario where adding a team creates just as much excitement, depending on the context of the standings at a given time.
