  1. I think he was being nice (to a degree). Hitting against that kind of speed and movement is definitely dragging batting averages down (as we are seeing). If guys like Molitor, Yount, Brett, Boggs, were playing now, they'd still be the good hitters that they were, comparatively against their current peers. Of that, I have little doubt. A guy like Wade Boggs might strike out 60 - 70 times a season instead of the 40-50 or so we were used to seeing from him back in the 80's, but he'd still be the type of guy we'd say "he makes good contact and carries a good average". IMO of course.
  2. Is this 8th grade? I double dog dare you. I'm just saying, if you're going to spit off about Yelich's contract counting, when it's NOT even the context I'm talking about, then be man enough to admit that you know DAMN well I'm right about them being able to add payroll(they just refuse to) AND that even two 20 mill/yr bats would help immensely. Stop being a small time thinker and living in the "great effort, everyone gets a trophy" world you currently do, and stop being satisfied with them just making the playoffs. What is this Little League?? "Great effort guys, go get em next year" Rah rah! Spending more money may help. It may not. It often does. SOmetimes it doesn't. Continuing to call people "small time thinkers" because they don't agree with your line of thinking doesn't make your ideas right and everyone else wrong. I can want the Brewers to spend more money. I also know that the likelyhood of them doing so is super unlikely, so hoping for them to do it doesn't make me small time. I just happen to have the natural poor luck to be born in a state that has a small market team.
  3. Is this 8th grade? I double dog dare you.
  4. The fact they don't spend for bats in FA shows they aren't serious about contending. What they are serious about it seems is "hoping" all the breaks go their way when/if they do make the playoffs. If they are truly serious about contending, extend the payroll by a big margin until the stud arms become FA's and after that they can strip the payroll down to nothing. If it gets you a world series it's worth it, it's the best way to do it because using "hope" as their strategy like they have been will continually get them nowhere. Again, this is false. They spent 200+ million on Christian Yelich. Just because he was "already theirs" and you don't personally count that as spending, doesn't mean it doesn't count. Just because he sucks now also doesn't mean it doesn't count. Spending 200+ million on a guy that was, at the time, a premier, top 5 talent is absolutely serious. Just because you don't personally count it because it doesn't meet your very specific, oddly defined criteria, doesn't mean the team isn't serious about contending.
  5. I hesitate to say "I applaud the owners for this", but it's a good move none the less. This last season there was a lot of negative press on baseball for the living conditions and "meals" that minor leaguers were being prepared, and this move just seemed like something that had to happen. I guess if nothing else, good move to just not drag their heels and make it happen quickly, and not make a big thing of taking 2-3-4 years figuring out the logistics of it.
  6. It means that Schildt doesn't have enough testosterone and old-school baseball tough guy in his veins for the Cardinals. Chris Carpenter could probably explain it better than I could. This. This is why the Cardinals are a detestable organization.
  7. "I STILL OWN YOU! I STILL OWN YOU!" Hahahahah! That was ........awesome.
  8. He's got a QB who's struggling to hit the broad side of a barn. I don't necessarily agree with the decision, but I sort of understand it too.
  9. Jones almost got stripped from behind hot-dogging it into the end zone.
  10. I feel like if that was Rodgers getting hit (in the head, by a helmet) while sliding, people would be calling for a 37 yard penalty and a 3 year suspension.
  11. Justin Fields is not a good quarterback. We ran the ball pretty well in the 2nd quarter.
  12. Based on the sliding/targeting rules, that is absolutely a penalty. A super stupid play by Douglas.
  13. Absolutely stupid by Douglas. Just stupid.
  14. what lol ? His feet were clearly in bounds. Where's the PI???
  15. Someone has to tell Fields when you have the ball for 10 seconds and nobody comes open, you have to throw the ball away.
  16. It seemed like an easy call to me. Near midfield, 4th and 1. Take the chance. Would have been a certain punt 15 or 20 years ago but the game has changed. Lots of coaches are looking at the metrics of punting and going for it a lot more. I like it.
  17. creative play call there on the one. Nicely done.
  18. Didn't think we were gonna snap it. Just another one of those dumb things where Rodgers was gonna hard count and try to draw the defense off sides, which hasn't worked for like 6 years.
  19. well, thats the kind of throw I expect Fields to make.
  20. This defense is bad, and should feel bad.
  21. We will see how it plays out but I am doubtful that 10 million for a closer is in the budget for a team with a payroll of 95-110 million and lots of other guys getting big raises in 2022. I think they move him FWIW they paid Hoffman $8 mil in 2010, KRod $8 mil in 2008 and Gagne $10 mil in 2008. So $10 mil for Hader wouldn’t be so outlandish for our history. And he is light years better than these 3. Hader had one blown save this year. Normally I feel like the difference between a good/really good closer and an elite closer isn't all that big of a deal, having Hader basically be "automatic" was pretty huge. Will he be the same going forward? Nobody can say that for sure, but I'd say if you think, even THINK he's that automatic 97% plus guy, he's worth that 10 million or so for another season.
  22. 20 - 30 years ago, every pitcher on a staff didn't throw 97+. Bunting is hard when every pitcher is throwing 97 with movement. There's this idea that guys should just bunt. Even if you're proficient at bunting, just laying one down wherever you want is difficult when you have a never ending army of guys coming out of the pen who have the stuff that we see nowadays. Kolten Wong is a proficient bunter, and came up the other night and popped one up to the catcher. The other thing is you're giving up an at bat for a whatever % chance to at most get one base. I don't want to change rules, I'd hate to get rid of the shift, and I think baseball needs to change, but I don't think bunting is the way offenses need to go about it.
