  1. I mean..... does it matter if that stuff even was "ok" 15 years ago or 20 years ago? what does that even mean? Look at what was ok in the 50's. it's not ok now. it wasn't ok in 2011, and the repeated, weak defense of "everyone does it" is why we continue to see people lose their jobs, and continue to behave like this.... because we normalize it because change is hard.
  2. The best team is the Dodgers. There's not even a question about that. But having one 32 team division, with the team with the most wins crowned champion at the end (which would have been the Giants, coincidentally) has been deemed not a money making opportunity. Even a 7 or 9 game series is too short to crown a true "best team". That's just how it is, and how it's always going to be. It's not the best team championship though, it's just the MLB championship.
  3. I agree with that. there's going to be fallout.
  4. use the language? sure. repeatedly in emails? probably not.
  5. No. Normal, upstanding people don't communicate the things that Gruden did. Yes they do, lol. What are we trying to pull here. Maybe you or I don't, but an email calling some professional connection a douche or a P is pretty standard fodder for lots and lots of people when they think they are communicating with a friend. I'm not gonna die on a hill for Jon Gruden's job, but I'm guessing if we combed through all 32 coaches emails from the past decade, 26 or so would be resigning tomorrow. He can go; the world is no worse, Raiders likely better off, but you won't get me to believe for a second that this was anything more than a witch hunt and convenient firing and nothing to do with what he actually did. interesting take. I use pretty bad, vulgar language, pretty often. when I write emails or any kind of communication at work, I somehow avoid calling people p or f or whatever. 6 years ago (!!!) I dropped an f bomb in an email header and it got all the way to the director of operations and he said "keep it professional please" I would wager that 26 of 32 NFL. coaches are not calling people the things that gruden was in his emails.
  6. it's gonna take a hot minute for him to get another job in football...
  7. Pass on Vogelbach. I like the guy for a few of his big moments, but why pay 2 million a piece for 2 guys that both fill a very limited role? Lots of raises this year, and even 2 million bucks that could be spent elsewhere. A LH 1st baseman (only) that OPS .730 practically grows on trees. 2 million? nope.
  8. This is good optimism thread content.
  9. I think limiting pickoff attempts is a bad idea. Limiting the amount of times a pitcher can just step off the mound for no reason would be easy to enforce, and is a very viable way to stick to a 15 or 20 second pitch clock. As for what the consequence is.... I would guess assessing a ball (instead of an automatic walk), but I don't know how they handled it in Low-A ball. Maybe an automatic walk would be more of an incentive to get guys to follow the pitch clock. I think falling behind in the count would be enough, personally. There's enough data to know that hitters fare better when ahead in the count to also know that pitchers wouldn't want to give away any kind of free advantage. I think instead of saying "this won't work/can't work/didn't work in some other league", it would behoove MLB to look at how it DID work in low A, take that data, and see how they can move forward with getting gameplay to be a little tighter with regards to flow of game and pacing. It's not just a minor issue anymore.
  10. When you watch the RF corner cam, I won't say "absolutely", but I don't see any intent from the RF trying to knock the ball out of play. It was just a thing that happened. One could argue it's a dumb rule, but how often does it come into play? I don't like it when sports start making rule changes because something happened one time and a team got hosed because of it. If it's something that happens a lot, or even occasionally, then maybe take a look at it. This is literally the first time I've ever seen something like this happen.
  11. https://www.insidehook.com/daily_brief/sports/average-time-mlb-game-all-time-high "If MLB chooses to use it, it appears the league does have a solution, as implementing a 15-second pitch clock in the low minors helped the Low-A West League cut down average game times by 21 minutes. In addition to cutting down the length of games by reducing the amount of dead time, the introduction of the clock has coincided with more runs being scored and more home runs being hit in addition to a reduction in both walks and strikeouts."
  12. Really hoping it was just one of those days where the mechanics were off or something or whatever. Luckily it didn't cost the team a win.
  13. Nobody falls for that anymore. Come on. Don't make us watch another miss. Don't put Mason through this again.
  14. well ok, the yard marker is at the 31. What the heck. They have to go for it here. Don't kick it.
  15. Unless the yellow line isn't the first down marker (which is usually super accurate), that was a first down by at least a half a yard.
  16. So is Cincy cutting McPherson too?
